“mass event that required 300 cops and dozens of medical personnel “
And the. It’s banned the Bubble Guy from blowing bubbles in public and they required permits for the annual polar plunge gathering citing the need for extra cleanup.
Meanwhile they allow the IV massive crowds.
This is akin to the BLM riots while we were supposed to stay locked in our homes
They support BLM riots in the middle of the Pandemic.
No permits, no consequences.
Wake up, vote differently. Government works for you and me.
The county forgot the additional qualifier: .tens of thousands of mostly...... ***non-resident, non property tax paying***............ college students ...
NB: ("The county spent how much time, energy, and money, so that tens of thousands of (mostly) college students could party on the streets of IV at taxpayer expense without killing themselves and the county is congratulating itself for a job well done?")
They should raise sales tax again so we can bump Laura Capps salary and expenses, and add more goodies for her door to door party baskets for the Isla Vista party goers.Along with the Narcan these "students" deserve at least a case of some kind of alcohol, and enough pot for the weekend. The SB Independent might help by getting a discount on the pot from their biggest advertisers. The potential for the community event are endless for Laura. They could fork over more for some top level bands and start competing with Coachella.Lastly let's expand those community events to a week. Why limit the experience??
I’m surprised the local DNC didn’t see this as a great voter registration drive, or even an anticipatory vote harvesting event. They could have gotten PP to sponsor the whole fiasco if they had thought ahead.
I read this Domestic Terrorist Article titled "A Wink and a Nod to a Semi-Annual Mass Casualty Event" By Andy Caldwell that talks about College Kids at UCSB "Going Wild"
I have a new more ominous Title "Major Terrorist Attack at UCSB Thwarted & Concealed"
I quote from Mr. Caldwell as follows>"If any other community group in our county held a mass event that required 300 cops and dozens of medical personnel to come to the scene prepared for a “mass casualty” event (the county’s words, not mine), do you think the county would send out a press release touting how well they responded to the same?

If only the county election office would make precinct voting data readily available again. Those Isla Vista precincts exhibited some very strange, hard to explain voting patterns at one time.
TC: Some wonk stuff. In a four-person race (top two win), I saw a total political unknown suddenly surge to win one of the two seats, but only after a long count that included Isla Vista precinct votes. Scrutiny of the precinct data showed this unknown got even more votes from Isla Vista precincts, than a far better known former mayor who was running along with the unknown candidate on the same slate.
This exuberant final vote count for the total unknown in Isla Vista precincts was finally officially tallied, but only long after the polls had closed on election day. One of our infamous California long counts. The incumbent had been winning up, until the last count was finally officially in. Then lost at the last minute.
Always thought it was a very curious way for the Isla Vista votes to finally break for the unknown, since incumbent had been winning up until this last minute final vote count. But this long count finally awarded full victory to the entirely new slate of challenging candidates (supported by the local political machine), over all the incumbents. Voters wanted change, and they got it.
But this also demonstrates yet again, that farming the Isla Vista votes can provide the winning difference in a close races. Nothing like having a concentration of essentially out of town transient residents decide important local matters.
Reminds me of good times at Cal State Chico in the late 70s-early 80s…Pioneer Days on Spring Break, a 10-day party for the entire town, old (13,000 residents) and new alike 12,000 Wildcat students +++), great times until it got out of control & ended with riots in 87…
‘Pioneer Day was the premier celebration every Spring in Chico, started in the early 20th century, it enthralled the entire community of Chico and beyond until its riotous demise in 1987. The one theme that stayed constant throughout P-Day's ever-changing nature was decentralization and disorganization, that both allowed it to rise to great heights, but was also instrumental in its downfall. Not only will this presentation reignite the nostalgia in those who remember the heights of P-Day, but will also expose and discuss the implications of the darker side of the legacy of P-Day. All in all, this is the story of the rapid rise and precipitous downfall of the event that earned Chico State the spot as the number one party school in the nation.’
Silly me thinking Santa Barbara might offer respite from some of the other craziness in CA. Wink wink sanction and massive support for these bacchanalias is absurd.
I live on the edge of Isla Vista where it borders Goleta. My windows give me nearly unobstructed views of the mountain and commercial aircraft taking off and landing. If somebody hadn't told me something such as "Deltopia" was taking place, I really wouldn't know - except for the increasing number of sirens/flashing lights of emergency vehicles and the unbelievable all-day-Saturday parade of half-clad young women sauntering past my window. (I'm gawking at them. How come most of the guys the same age as these girls aren't? That alone could be the subject of an essay!) Before 2008, kids had to put a community-wide party together the old fashioned way. It took a lot of time and effort - and community authorities had plenty of time to make it known to the student leaders who was really in charge here and what it's going to cost them to hold this huge street party and who's going to be ultimately held responsible when the unfathomable occurs, as it usually does every year in some form or other. Since the onset of high-speed social media, these parties can be put together in a matter of seconds and communicated to a wide and accepting audience in minutes - and it can be done almost anonymously. These affairs have become "unsanctioned" because political leaders in charge of our communities don't know who to "sanction" or hold responsible and accountable. A free citizenry has a right to assemble when they want and with they want without getting permission from Big Brother. What the authorities can do is hold the lawbreaking party-goers financially responsible for the full costs of their infractions. These kids think that somebody else - anybody else - is going to pay the bills for their having a Good Time. Overdose and near an ambulance ride to Cottage Hospital with full lights blazing? You're going to get a bill from A.M.R. for at least $1,500 for your dalliance. Holding a keg party and openly serving 19-year-olds beer and whatever? Throw the book at the tenants and owners of that property. You can't stop people from congregating. This is America! What we can do is make sure they are charged a full retail price for as much lawbreaking as the gendarmes can spot and track down.
Years ago I attended a presentation by a member of the local Mounted Patrol, where he showed the Plexiglas head armor their horses are tacked up in for navigating crowds and a nifty baton they use on any drunk who tries to touch their horse. He said they are seldom used for search and rescue now, replaced by infrared heat sensing drones, BUT he said they were used at Deltopia because the partiers would block the exit of ambulances and the horses would clear the way for their exit. No mention of them in the media this time. Nor, of course, is an accounting of the cost to taxpayers for the personnel required.
Back in the day we had the pits at Ledbetter for the 4th of July. It NEVER resulted in this number of EMS calls or costs. And I would venture to say that would hold true even if costs were adjusted for inflation. That was shutdown because of the costs and stress it placed on emergency services and public works. Why would Laura Capps )who is SO concerned about students that she is passing out Narcan) allow this to continue at taxpayer expense and the presumably reduced response time by EMS for the rest of her constituents? Another reason to vote her out!
I'd like to put a word in for those students who are so put-off by Deltopia (and in prior years, Halloween), that they are compelled to rent hotel rooms outside Isla Vista to escape the madness.
All those dopey kids together could turn into a tragedy. I'm sure they're good people, but outsiders are sure to screw it up sooner or later. Arrest and suspend a few will give 'em the word that's it's a major no-no.
Harkens back to Covid™ required draconian and 100% repressive control; unless it is a BLM social protest. What this one-party government state sanctions, and what it tolerates and permits.

UCSB must now start paying for all these emergency services and over 300 work force! Enough is enough.
UCSB/SBCC
If you are sponsoring an event, parade etc you’re required to pay for the police and any other safety measures.
That’s why it’s not sanctioned. Clever.
We the taxpaying saps don’t have any officials looking out for us.

Mr. Walther - Thank you for consistently shining the Light.
You're welcome. Most who live here have ABSOLUTELY no idea
what is going down and it is evil.
Could it be all the drunk students voting Democrat?
If only the county election office would make precinct voting data readily available again. Those Isla Vista precincts exhibited some very strange, hard to explain voting patterns at one time.
I know.. we saw the chained shut Covid dorms voting in 2020… at 75% turnout. Seemed impossible.

Thomas - so they had precinct voting data in 2020? Do you have a link to that?
County elections office can provide you this information. Or not.
Yeah, the 'or not' that seems to be the problem - correct?
Numbers are just the entire county all rolled up.

Enabling bad behavior is co-dependency. What is Laura Capp's need to be an actively participating co-dependent?
