Of great concern to many Americans (and our allies), that we are no longer electing qualified people to public office. And that goes for both political parties. The two recent mayoral races in New York City and Seattle, for example. In the NYC race, none of the candidates were worthy of governing the most important city in the world. NONE. And yet, here we are. A good place to start: campaign reform. Reign in political advertising. Require networks and radio -- any entity licensed under the FCC -- to cover debates by the candidates. And not just one debate, but a series. Each covering distinct issues. And I mean by that, serious objective debates. Our country deserves the best among us to represent our communities, states, and nation.

Montecito93108's avatar

Impossible to even imagine debates in our single party controlled County, or cities. We can’t even get objective Candidate Forums! The LWV is a DEM Club hostile to any candidate not litmus tested and favored by the Democrat Central Committee & NWPC -SB Chapter. Let the Dem Socialists of America DSA- Sb Chapter take control of SB City Council’s 3 open seats. Do City homeowners, property owners, care enough to change the predictable?

When will non-DEM locals choose to fulfill their civic duty? Apparently others don’t care if their privately owned property is confiscated. I don’t understand fear justifying inaction. Excuses til the end.

Voter ID, paper ballots, same day voting. Fair elections will be solve the problem (post exposure). We’re currently a 60/40 nation, trending to 80/20…

Something’s not right in River City…

Who would have ever thought that our once greatest resource, immigration, has turned out to be our greatest liability? What does our closest European allies, England, Germany, Belgium and France have in common? They all have been virtually overrun and culturally changed dramatically due to unprecedented immigration from the Middle East and Africa.

London, the financial center of Europe, now referred to as “Londonistan,” because of the dramatic and unrecognizable change in culture, accelerated by their Muslim Mayor, Sadiq Khan.

We now have a radical, Muslim-Socialist as the Mayor of our largest city and financial capital of the world.

Interestingly, two former Soviet bloc countries, Hungary and Poland have taken hard lines against the hoards of immigrants, in effect, putting their finger in the proverbial dike, in an effort to stabilize their economies and society.

Any questions?

I would simply note that if the current administration really wanted to hasten self-deportation, it would impose existing penalties against employers of undocumented workers.

Howard Walther's avatar

Steve, cannot arrest the employers and solve the problem because they donate

to their Politician friends. See my Post above.

Pat Fish's avatar

I say a policy to SPAY NEUTER ILLEGALS would go a long way toward encouraging self-deportation. If captured they can be "fixed" before being returned to country of origin.

DLDawson's avatar

would be nice, but all those Country Club Rs & Chambers of Commerce won’t allow employer penalties to happen, BUT cutting $$$ benefits to illegals will hasten self-deportation (eg SNAP, Medicaid, +++)…

Who will apply for those jobs? Why do you have so

Much hate for people who have done you no harm?

What would all the nursing homes, long term care help providers, people who need home health aides do?

Steve Johnson's avatar

Please read my comment carefully. I am not suggesting that current administration should impose existing penalties against employers of undocumented workers. I am pointing out the hypocrisy of the current administration.

Elce- What’s your advice to others like me who hate being enablers, ‘an accessory to the crime’?

Jeff Giordano's avatar

Andy, so right on bigger government being the problem not the solution. NYC budget has soured by more than 30% over the last 10 years to more than $120B yet the city—by every measure—has gotten worse with crumbling infrastructure, more crime and a third world country feel. They now spend nearly $40K ($40K!) per student in education yet kids still can’t read. But, hey, all good as long as the salaries soar and the pensions flow. The same can be said in the city of SB where expenditures have doubled while the city population has decreased—numbers don’t lie—more government benefits government not residents.

Peanut's avatar

Excellent. While our city continues to fall in disrepair, their ideals and fleecing of the public goes on. Every year the city and surrounding communities flood with devastating results. BUT no money in the budget to upgrade our failing sewers and streets. 6million for a local hotel for the homeles was reported last year, but residents can pay for the damages the predictable (Karen Bass and Gavin Newsome) annual heavy rains ALWAYS bring. Some are challenging the city and county leader's credibility. Seems they send tax dollars to places and pockets where it does not belong. Santa Barbara is a dump! Crime and burglaries have soared in assaults. ANSWER. We need a higher local tax. No, we don't! We need people in elected offices to manage the resources they have been intrusted with. In the liberal mind, that is THEIR money. They'll try to find other resources to manage one of the most esteemed locations in the world. As we continue to crumble and decay...

For important perspective on the dangers posed by all unassimilated immigrant populations (legal or otherwise), read "While Europe Slept" by Bruce Bawer. Written in the wake of the 2004 assasination of film maker Theo Van Gogh in Amsterdam, this clarion alarm written to the USA from an ex-pat liberal should be near the top of any syllabus on this subject.

Unfortunately, democratic socialist historian Howard Zinn's account of America HAS BEEN near the top of public education's syllabus for a generation. His writing has informed and reframed who we are, so much so that a majority of voters under the age of 30 are now lionizing the Mandami's of our time. We wrestle not against flesh and blood...

Thank you! A great gift for those who believe socialism is the answer. On my Christmas list!

Well said, Andy. Ask any Armenian, Chaldean Christian, Greek or Coptic Christian, or Palestinian Christian who’s people suffered or suffer as inferior minorities under the tyranny of Islamic law. If you look into their book and the teachings of their prophet , subjugation, by any means, is not a bug, it is a feature.

Well said! This message needs to be shared with every American!

Derek Hanley's avatar

Andy, this is a real wake-up call for all Americans regardless of affiliations with either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party.

There is no doubt that the younger voters in the Democratic Party are turning to socialism for the answers to their problems for the future of their lives. The old guard of that party have stayed too long and have run out of solutions.

The emergence of immigrant, socialist, militants in congress is already in place in the examples you cited, using socialism as their entry card into future power in America.

Europe is an example of this infiltration on a proportionately larger scale and should be studied to anticipate and challenge its growth in America.

Peanut's avatar

You nailed it Andy. In a word, Colonization. While the ignorance of the superior thinking left protests free America, they are in fact warring against their own future! Their protests are in fact militaristic. By fighting to allow hostile religious immigrants free passage into our country, those who hate these free United States, they are fighting for the immigrant's right to colonize and TAKE over a nation that does not belong to them. Because ALL white men are bad. Ok, so all the cities and inventions from Euopean and African decendants can keep the modern miracles and system of government that these free capitalists built on their own merit, and those who want to be colonized by a hostile foreign government can go to other places void of European and African ingenuity. Italy's glass, eyeglasses. The compound microscope, Dutch spectacle makers Hans and Zacharias Janssen, 1590. 8yo boy from Scotland, Andrew Carnegie and Brittish Sir Henry Bessemer's steel, 1855, built our infrastructure! And Garrett Morgan, a black man, invented a faster sewing machine belt, 1895, completely revolutionizing the garment industry!' Cities, science, and the factory of consumer goods. Don't like America, go build your own country!

I read this article titled "Against All Enemies Foreign and Domestic"

By Andy Caldwell I have a new title "Corrupt California the Enemy of the People"

I am just going to provide the weblinks>

"Political consultant Dana Williamson, 53, of Carmichael, was charged by a federal grand jury with conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, bank fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruct justice, subscribing to false tax returns, and making false statements, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced. The 23-count indictment was unsealed following Williamson’s arrest this morning." Read the Indictment linked below>

Times change, and so do immigration policies. I think the quotation on the Statue of Liberty should be rewritten to reflect Donald Trump’s new credo:

“Give me your wealthy pedophiles, your war criminals, yearning to breathe free, the wretched schemers of your teeming shore. Send these, the wealthy, golden coins in hand, to Washington, DC”

Michael Schaumburg's avatar

Thank you for writing. I agree that tightening up of the election system would be good. I think that money is the root of politics and elections. I would suggest that contributions for local elections (council/mayor) come from residents of that city only!; The same for State and Congressional candidates from that district only; etc.

NO money allowed from "outside" sources can be used.

I share your concern about Islam; however, Muslims who wish to live in the U.S. must submit to the Constitution and renounce any goal to replace the Constitution with Sharia law.

Bernard Gans's avatar

Andy, you have raised very important issues and recommended actions. The one issue I do not agree with, and which is a very sensitive issue, is that the U.S. cannot assimilate moderate Muslims. Moderate Muslims will not stand up to the Islamists, the Muslim Brotherhood, or other Islamic fundamentalists. Islam is more than a personal religion, it a societal religion which requires that it control everything.

Montecito93108's avatar

Long ago America was a country of immigrants willing to contribute and assimilate into a country of citizens. Now what’s the difference between a citizen and an alien? What’s the value of citizenship when dual, and tri-citizens are in favored position? Citizenship is not desired by many alien newcomers.

All my eggs are in one basket while dual, tri- citizens can easily escape, run from problems by returning to their home country. They can vote, have full access to public schools, medical care, debit cards, Section 8, plus licenses or credentials to be lawyers, judges, engineers, bureaucrats, doctors, teachers, powerful politicians, etc. Citizenship was devalued in 1965; and again later in CA when under Pete Wilson (R) voters passed Prop 187, that was over-ruled and not appealed by Gray Davis (D).

How do we clean up this mess without defunding CA or enforcing existing immigration laws?
