Of great concern to many Americans (and our allies), that we are no longer electing qualified people to public office. And that goes for both political parties. The two recent mayoral races in New York City and Seattle, for example. In the NYC race, none of the candidates were worthy of governing the most important city in the world. NONE. And yet, here we are. A good place to start: campaign reform. Reign in political advertising. Require networks and radio -- any entity licensed under the FCC -- to cover debates by the candidates. And not just one debate, but a series. Each covering distinct issues. And I mean by that, serious objective debates. Our country deserves the best among us to represent our communities, states, and nation.
NYC abdicated quality leadership, long before this current election. Few can ever lead any public operation that in fact is controlled by their very own versions of the deep state - the unelected bureaucrat sector aligned with government employee union interests.
Who would have ever thought that our once greatest resource, immigration, has turned out to be our greatest liability? What does our closest European allies, England, Germany, Belgium and France have in common? They all have been virtually overrun and culturally changed dramatically due to unprecedented immigration from the Middle East and Africa.
London, the financial center of Europe, now referred to as “Londonistan,” because of the dramatic and unrecognizable change in culture, accelerated by their Muslim Mayor, Sadiq Khan.
We now have a radical, Muslim-Socialist as the Mayor of our largest city and financial capital of the world.
Interestingly, two former Soviet bloc countries, Hungary and Poland have taken hard lines against the hoards of immigrants, in effect, putting their finger in the proverbial dike, in an effort to stabilize their economies and society.
The English and French supported the Ottomans historically against Hapsburg Spain - so perhaps its justice that England and France are being colonized, likewise Germany, formerly the Holy Roman Empire and the Princely states were the epicenter of the Protestant revolt - and it was these same protestants who deemed the Ottoman invasion of Catholic lands to be retribution for "apostasy" of the Catholics.
Are these events not ones to be seen as the "payback" these nations get for turning their backs on the Church and supporting Muslims?
For important perspective on the dangers posed by all unassimilated immigrant populations (legal or otherwise), read "While Europe Slept" by Bruce Bawer. Written in the wake of the 2004 assasination of film maker Theo Van Gogh in Amsterdam, this clarion alarm written to the USA from an ex-pat liberal should be near the top of any syllabus on this subject.
Unfortunately, democratic socialist historian Howard Zinn's account of America HAS BEEN near the top of public education's syllabus for a generation. His writing has informed and reframed who we are, so much so that a majority of voters under the age of 30 are now lionizing the Mandami's of our time. We wrestle not against flesh and blood...
A companion read is "While America Aged" by Roger Lowenstein. How Pension Debts ruined General Motors, Stopped the NYC Subways, Bankrupted San Diego, and Loom as the Next Financial Crisis.
The enemy is already within, as much as any claims it is coming from without .
Andy, so right on bigger government being the problem not the solution. NYC budget has soured by more than 30% over the last 10 years to more than $120B yet the city—by every measure—has gotten worse with crumbling infrastructure, more crime and a third world country feel. They now spend nearly $40K ($40K!) per student in education yet kids still can’t read. But, hey, all good as long as the salaries soar and the pensions flow. The same can be said in the city of SB where expenditures have doubled while the city population has decreased—numbers don’t lie—more government benefits government not residents.
Excellent. While our city continues to fall in disrepair, their ideals and fleecing of the public goes on. Every year the city and surrounding communities flood with devastating results. BUT no money in the budget to upgrade our failing sewers and streets. 6million for a local hotel for the homeles was reported last year, but residents can pay for the damages the predictable (Karen Bass and Gavin Newsome) annual heavy rains ALWAYS bring. Some are challenging the city and county leader's credibility. Seems they send tax dollars to places and pockets where it does not belong. Santa Barbara is a dump! Crime and burglaries have soared in assaults. ANSWER. We need a higher local tax. No, we don't! We need people in elected offices to manage the resources they have been intrusted with. In the liberal mind, that is THEIR money. They'll try to find other resources to manage one of the most esteemed locations in the world. As we continue to crumble and decay...
Big Government creates a massive dependency tranche of new Democrat voters. City Housing Authority just spent a half million dollars per unit in a motel conversion project, to house 34 "homeless" persons.
How long for this municipal expenditure this to show a positive ROI? Buying up Trona, California would have been more cost effective: https://www.zillow.com/trona-ca/
I would simply note that if the current administration really wanted to hasten self-deportation, it would impose existing penalties against employers of undocumented workers.
I say a policy to SPAY NEUTER ILLEGALS would go a long way toward encouraging self-deportation. If captured they can be "fixed" before being returned to country of origin.
would be nice, but all those Country Club Rs & Chambers of Commerce won’t allow employer penalties to happen, BUT cutting $$$ benefits to illegals will hasten self-deportation (eg SNAP, Medicaid, +++)…
Administration is going after its own role in illegal handouts to illegals first, because it has more direct control over tax dollars and informal policies that have long violated its own regulations.
A very good place to start. Your continued encouragement against the enablers, all the enablers, is very welcome. Every April 15, we all become accessories to our own crimes, when we allow distribution of illegal benefits illegals to continue.
Thank you Andy, for the copy of the Citizenship Oath. Deserves highlighting and parsing, so we can all take to heart what really separates bona fide legal citizens from those here illegally, and/or those who took this oath with malignant intent in their hearts:
The Citizenship Oath:
---“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;
---that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
---that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.”
Greatly appreciate you taking the time to write this article. So many comments mostly agreeing with you or adding on to your thinking. I will make it short, I only have two friends left living in NYC, and after the new Mayor takes office I will most likely have none.
The second words that came out of Mamdani's mouth, after first demanding more money from supporters to help fund his "transition" into the mayorship, was to claim President Donald Trump's help was now suddenly "critical" to his own future success. Who would bother listening to another single word that comes out of this man's mouth? Have at it, NYC.
Andy, this is a real wake-up call for all Americans regardless of affiliations with either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party.
There is no doubt that the younger voters in the Democratic Party are turning to socialism for the answers to their problems for the future of their lives. The old guard of that party have stayed too long and have run out of solutions.
The emergence of immigrant, socialist, militants in congress is already in place in the examples you cited, using socialism as their entry card into future power in America.
Europe is an example of this infiltration on a proportionately larger scale and should be studied to anticipate and challenge its growth in America.
WSJ reports heavy Gen Z support for eliminating all oil drilling in California. Their 13 years of K-12 "climate change" indoctrination impacts their choices today as upcoming election game-changers.
Thank you for writing. I agree that tightening up of the election system would be good. I think that money is the root of politics and elections. I would suggest that contributions for local elections (council/mayor) come from residents of that city only!; The same for State and Congressional candidates from that district only; etc.
NO money allowed from "outside" sources can be used.
In the days of "free media outreach", why do candidates need to raise so much cash in the first place.
Why do we the voters need so much well funded hand-holding requiring this campaign cash, before we can decide our own votes?
How much of our own voting psyche is influenced by the candidate that reports raising the most cash, egged on by local media score card. Gee, if that many people support him/her/them, they must be the better candidate.
You nailed it Andy. In a word, Colonization. While the ignorance of the superior thinking left protests free America, they are in fact warring against their own future! Their protests are in fact militaristic. By fighting to allow hostile religious immigrants free passage into our country, those who hate these free United States, they are fighting for the immigrant's right to colonize and TAKE over a nation that does not belong to them. Because ALL white men are bad. Ok, so all the cities and inventions from Euopean and African decendants can keep the modern miracles and system of government that these free capitalists built on their own merit, and those who want to be colonized by a hostile foreign government can go to other places void of European and African ingenuity. Italy's glass, eyeglasses. The compound microscope, Dutch spectacle makers Hans and Zacharias Janssen, 1590. 8yo boy from Scotland, Andrew Carnegie and Brittish Sir Henry Bessemer's steel, 1855, built our infrastructure! This would never happen under Christendom. But Christendom no longer exists. Unlike Hapsburg Spain, America is not defined by faith - where Spain was dedicated to the defense of Catholicism and sharing the universal faith, going so far as to fight the Muslims in North Africa and the Ottomans at sea, as well as the Anglicans, Dutch Calvinists, and opposing the French Hugenots, America isn't defined by any faith or any transcendant ideal.
Why are we surprised America is allowing communists or Islamists like Mamdani, what transcendant and universal foundations is America grounded in? I see none aside from relativism, which is only u universal and not transcendant. America has never concerned itself with religious "orthodoxy" [except as it concerns historically opposing the Catholic Faith], so why are we surprised by an "invasion" when America stands for nothing and is defined by nothing except "freedom".
