I read this article by Bonnie Donovan tilted "Always Be Prepared" and I quote from same

“Many have asked for more community outreach around our efforts. I wanted to provide a brief overview today and to let our community know that we will be engaging in additional outreach once this immediate emergency incident is more under control." Can you all say CYA!!!

As seen from the recent LA Fires THE THREAT is the ENTIRE SYSTEM, the CALI LEADERS that have utterly failed its Citizens. Santa Barbara IS NO DIFFERENT, and in the past, has failed its Citizens.

I provide you with Investigative Journalist Michael Shellenberger's X statements below>

https://x.com/shellenberger I quote from same>

"They defunded the fire department, drained the reservoir, and cut the budget for fire prevention. Yes, incompetence. Yes, ideology. But the underlying reason they let LA burn is because, deep down, they hate civilization." GOD HELP WE THE PEOPLE!!!

Serving your Country is very simple always SAFETY SAFETY & SAFETY for your Citizens>

Stress test modeling of the same, if the current design as stated in the LA fire areas, is to be responsive to only a few structure fires at any one time and not larger number of fires. Important information when planning for insurance needs in this now highly volatile insurance market. How feasible is a requirement for onsite water storage systems, fire-resistant cladding and gels, and of course defensible spaces?

Good article. I like the information on the water for the south coast. But.......... Did you know what that water costs the citizens of Santa Ynez, Solvang, Buellton, Lompoc???

Fact, 90% of water in Lake Cachuma is ear marked for South Coast (Goleta, Santa Barbara, Carp, Summerland and Montecieto). YES that is correct 90%!!

But wait, what about the Steelhead Trout that All the South Coast and State environmentalists demand to be protected. You know water has to be released out of the Lake for these non existing trout. The Steelhead trout all but disappeared once the dam was built. But wait, South Coast interests begged Congress to approved the Dam construction knowing full and well that the Steelhead would be gone. You know you can't remove 90% of a species habitat without killing it off.

Yet the State Fish and Game and Cal Trout association and South Coast liberals keep sending OUR valuable water out to the ocean for a hopeless cause. (Sound Familiar!!! Delta smelt and the Sacramento River sending billions of gallons out to sea for a specie that does not need it at all) PS... That water that is going out to sea, is water that WE ALL purchase here for the entire county.

Also, be aware that Calif State Fish and Game, Cal Trout, and South Coast water agencies are fighting to prevent Santa Ynez, Solvang, Buellton, Lompoc and farmers from getting their cut of the 10% water out of the Lake Cachuma. Such hypocrites these South Coast folks are.

Nothing new under the sun. These environmentalists want all this pie-in-the-sky feel good crap but they never want to pay the price.

So before the City of Santa Barbara brags about their abundant water supplies, remember who you stole the water from.

With the concerted efforts to eliminate on-site parking and personal automobile use, is there a separate evacuation plan and identification of those who now have no traditional means to evacuate?

Numbers, locations of these now "car-free" residences and persons. How exactly will this be handled in a time of great stress to all other existing systems. It is incumbent for individuals themselves to ensure their own ability to evacuate.

However, should this new group of local residents, car-free by intentional municipal planning decisions, be officially ignored when presenting disaster contingency plans?

Take a look at the city map and see the MASSIVE reservoir next to Escondido Park on the downtown side of the Mesa. It has been DRAINED AND EMPTY for decades. Gravity water pressure to save much of the Westside. EMPTY. Will this be the shameful detail the bureaucrats will have an excuse for in some future disaster?

Posting this comment here was not enough for me. I have sent postcards with this message to the Fire Chief, Fire Marshall, Manager of Emergency Services, City Administrator and Mayor. Including the caveat "Don't let it be like the empty one that could have saved the Pacific Palisades, and you will be blamed for not insisting it be filled. Don't get a committee to study it, take charge and get it done."

I’ve only lived in Northern Santa Barbara county for 18 years. While all the words should be a comfort, it really doesn’t resonate. Any town that’s been involved in so called repair of the same portion of the 101 for 2 decades, falls on deaf ears! Not to mention how screwed up downtown Santa Barbara is. I no longer have any desire to visit the city or attend concerts there anymore. The fun city is dead. Last time I was there by the beach, I had to pay $25 to park! No thanks!

Stated, “Defensible space: Clear flammable vegetation near homes." Was there anything mentioned about the city/county reducing the FUEL which burns in a brush fire? A neighbor that once had, and might still have, up to about a three-foot depth of leaves in their backyard was a fire waiting to happen. When I lived there, they were never removed by request of a government person. It looks like soaking down the burnable vegetation around your yard remains as the only remedy to excess FUEL. And what about the FUEL in the mountains, will that ever be maintained at a low level?

You will never see real Fuels Management programs until CARB allows control burning in the forest that surrounds the cities. Plus defensible space with environmentalists' restrictions will not occur until the liberals stop being hypocritical.

Having lived near mountains ... and I still do ... I frequently think about how to burn back safely the flammable material. Perhaps the question after decades and centuries of "control" burning methods, what have been the advances, if any, made to controlling burning on sloped surfaces? When I lived in MA, I remember my dad having an old, brass kerosene torch used to burn safely the flat areas of dead grass. Perhaps on mountain surfaces a chemical is available to maintain a controlled burning that doesn't get out of control. It's the FUEL that ends up being the problem and needs to be addressed. The city/county and/or land occupants need to research methods of the latest in control burning on hill/mountain sides. There's a sense of fear when it comes to controlling fuel and that it can't be done. And another 10,000+ homes will be leveled once again. My nature is to think anything can be done and only finding a solution to a problem is required. Everyone, start thinking! The thought should be, "It's fuel, stupid!"

Thank you for writing. My concern is that fire insurance companies are canceling policies in the city and county. Will McAdoo's update convince the insurance companies to write policies here?

I think not, but perhaps the beginning of a plan to convince the companies. Changes needed that I see are scrub control in the foothills, etc., complete and unimpeded egress routes in the city (including State St. & Old Town Goleta) for escape and fire equipment, mountain roads with turn outs, increased water supply to each neighborhood, fireproofing dwellings, flexible fire equipment/manpower and lowering the huge regulations and fees costs of rebuilding. These are my thoughts of a property owner and what government strategies and remedies might be to convince the insurance companies. Would this be enough to obtain fire insurance?

Thank you, Bonnie, once again for keeping us in the loop with your notes from the council meeting. It's always good to hear that one's city is well prepared for a disaster such as the one now being experienced in Los Angeles. But as one reader, Teri, pointed out, it is hard to have a whole lot of confidence in a city government that has shown total incompetence in taking care of a small downtown area. I guess, God forbid, that the proof will be in the pudding.

As a Boy Scout in Troop 1, our Roscoe Scout Master would end the troop meetings with "Scouts be prepared and our answer was we are prepared."

Here is the problem with the missive from the City Administrators Office..... " prepare for emergencies and there is close coordination between our water system and our fire and police ...,"

Where was her statement that the City Streets and Evacuation Routes were and are in better condition than a Decade ago? It is obvious she whiffed and that one. Where is the City Council boasting about how great the traffic pattern is for commercial and emergency response as they continue t lie and shut down intersections and make life difficult for fire, police, ambulance and the everyday worker?

The City Administrator gets more pay then the Gov. of the State. Yet she cannot have the backbone to tell the Council and anti car shut it down crowd the city is ill prepared?

The city just had the voters pass another tax increase to pay for keeping government afloat, while it continues to hammer businesses and destroy the tax base.

It should be noted Judy spent countless hours working for the City, just as former Mayor Lodge.

If you want a transportation platform that is not more government dictates CAB welcomes you.
