When I was a kid, JFK was assassinated. I was at a Pasadena private school with students from almost entirely Republican families. A teacher asked my class who was a Republican - every hand but from two of us went up. I was one of the two. The assassination news was given to us during recess. A number of my classmates cheered and applauded.

Fast forward to 911. I was living in NYC. The plane went right over our apartment building, so low the workmen on the roof jumped to the ground. A lot of the footage you saw was shot on that roof by a NYT videographer who was our neighbor. We, thankfully, were away in Canada, although we had to get a rental car and drive back immediately because my husband was needed at Newsweek. The weekend after, I went to a large birthday dinner party for my fiction and humor editor at The New Yorker, Dan Menaker. I adored Dan, but I had to leave early because I found the talk at my table too upsetting - it was all people in media and publishing and I couldn't take the way they laughed off the carnage and the towers falling. I did not vote for Bush and was against our Middle Eastern policies but the people who died were just going to work or traveling on a plane.

Some time later, a friend of mine who was a longtime friend of Berry Berenson, who was on that plane, made public fun of Berry's sister, the model Marisa for being so distraught on 9/11, calling her a drama queen. All I could say was “Can you imagine having to see a family member die like that on tv?”

The heartlessness of the Left right now is nothing new. I saw it after 911 and in Republican children back in 1963. We just have to go forward carrying Charlie Kirk in our hearts and not let the toxicity going on right now keep us from honoring the good Charlie did.

A good report. I do wonder if the SB Current requires all writers to provide data proofs for their stories? Because it seems such requirements would hamstring most articles.

Mr. Eringer’s style is such that you simply must assume he’s onto something and you follow along breathlessly to see what happens next. If such data proof requirements were in place, none of this great exciting writing would be possible.

Writers need space and freedom to weave and create the world as they see fit to conjure their message, whether it’s purely factual or a mix of opinion, facts and conjecture.

Editors can ruin certain pieces by not recognizing these particular modes and styles, and over editing to create what the editor believes is the correct content and style. Thankfully with Mr Eringer’s work this does not happen.

Childish remark Thomas John... Not unexpected... nonetheless childish and unnecessary. For what possible purpose?

I find it odd that someone with limited or zero credibility would put that title after their name. Hence the cracker jack comment. Right up there with a PhD from Antioch. But I'll assume you don't find value in institutions. Just social media. Would you want a Dr. from Cal State, whatever, pulling out your cancer? Maybe you would if Bobby Kennedy said they were OK? There is a reason he didn't get any traction in the election. He's weak. If the GOP put forward someone who actually had some smarts - I think I know of one - that might be a winning option.

And thanks for calling me childish. Not unexpected. At all....

I'll keep an eye out for your mature discourse.

Encourage "Ukraine" to attack the heart of Moscow? We shall very much part company here. Otherwise a good article. Ukraine cannot even win a game of tiddlywinks. So who are you asking to be the surrogate stand-in for 'Ukraine"?

Time to sever the Russian heritage "Ukraine" from the kleptocrat Kyiv "Ukraine, like the severance of Czech Republic from Slovakia - no fuss, no bother, just common sense acceptance that post-Soviet lines were badly drawn in haste.

Pretty much a damning list.

Supervisor Nelson from the 4th Dist. commented on the tragedy.... of Kirk.

Who else in south county elected officials spoke out against it?

It says a whole bunch about backbone of lack thereof.

hmmm…another collection of whimsical musings addressing world events, but once again we must disregard the musings that it’s time for Ukraine to strike Moscow. Really? World War III is a desire? When Putin made the decision to go into Ukraine, for the military incursion, it was for two stated reasons; 1. De-Nazify Ukraine and 2. to demilitarize Ukraine.

Most people know don’t remember that Ukraine was one of the most corrupt countries and government in the world. It’s a Deep State playground. It’s their laundry room. Unfortunately, those that are still asleep to the facts cannot see. ..

Why was POTUS framed re: Russia collusion? To protect truth re: Hillary/DNC Russia collusion Why was POTUS impeached re: Ukraine? To protect truth re: Biden/UKRAINE collusion? Blame 'opponent' for what they themselves are guilty of, with assist from DNC media push (echo submitted 'talking points'…generate false narrative?). Why did [Schiff] actively leak knowingly false statements during-post classified sessions to MSM? Why did [Schiff] illegally surveil [phone] members of WH legal team, media, and Congress? Fact: UKRAINE is the single largest Clinton Foundation donor. Coincidence?

“Victor Pinchuk, a steel magnate whose father-in-law, Leonid Kuchma, was president of UKRAINE from 1994 to 2005, has directed between $10 million and $25 million to the foundation. He has lent his private plane to the Clintons and traveled to Los Angeles in 2011 to attend Mr. Clinton’s star-studded 65th birthday celebration.”

“Between September 2011 and November 2012, Douglas E. Schoen, a former political consultant for Mr. Clinton, arranged about a dozen meetings with State Department officials on behalf of or with Mr. Pinchuk to discuss the continuing political crisis in Ukraine, according to reports Mr. Schoen filed as a registered lobbyist.”

“I had breakfast with Pinchuk. He will see you at the Brookings lunch,” Melanne Verveer, a Ukrainian-American then working for the State Department, wrote in a June 2012 email to Mrs. Clinton.

Once again Mr Eringer is on the mark. Now that the left has deemed speech/hate speech as violence, the gauntlet has been thrown down. If Antifa, blm, lefty loonies... block my path of travel and scream "racist, Nazi, fascist..., in my face or at me and my loved ones, that is violence and I can now protect myself with a bat, car, or any other weapon at my disposal. I can do this because their speech "offends me", therefore "Knives out", Right Nancy, Pocahontas, Hakeem...,?

One has only to watch Jesse Waters' piece from 09-15-25 showing black pastors spewing their racist hate and all their black congregants cheering them on. They are, Jasmine Crocket's pastor, Frederick D. Haynes III from (get this) Friendship West Baptist Church, and Pastor Howard-John Westley from Alfred Street Baptist Church. Such vitriol and hate is right up there with Barry OblameO's Pastor, Jeremiah Wright. We can see that it is "Intuitively obvious to the most casual of observers" that the Left/DEMOcRATS are where all the hate and violence is coming from.

just curious but have ANY of these black “pastors” ever mentioned that the black population in this country is around 141/2 percent and they commit around 60 percent of the violent crime in this country.

why does the left and black community leaders (Al sharpton)and friends want to keep these people down?

I think we all know the answer to this question.

cheers

Data seems to suggest that those moving to California in the last decade ++ have dropped by over 50%. I am unfamiliar with the number of "new startups"...if it does, I wonder if that data includes corner taco stands? If it does, we're in the middle of a boom!

An insightful look at things, Robert. People such as RFK, Jr. and Charlie Kirk understood sticking their necks out there is risky business. People engaged in destroying others via all the techniques imaginable will probably go to hell. Politicians engaged in prolific lies brainwashing the weak minds of others which in turn causes death need to be prosecuted by a law which punishes the guilty by cutting off their tongues and/or enduring a slow, public death. Then maybe will these evil people watch what they say.

A family member recently forwarded a photograph from the new In-N-Out Burger headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee very much under construction. It was extraordinary in both size and scope.

If in-N-Out Burger had proposed to build their new headquarters somewhere else in California, you can rest assured it would still be in the "conceptual" stage while the bureaucrats were busy adding up all the fees for permits, traffic, union mandates, schools, etc., ad nauseam.

I have no doubt Sacramento is seeking a way reach into the company's pocket just as they expressed interest on collecting income tax on former residents who have escaped California.

Yikes. If you pay attention, you would understand that the restaurants are not leaving the state, their home office is leaving the state. So "the fatso who waits in line for 30 minutes to eat that shat" Will not only continue to have full access to food of their choice, there's a chance the cost of that food may be reduced because the company headquarters is not located in a state that subscribes to sucking blood from companies that produce jobs. Have a great day.

Not many folks commented on boycotting Russia oil. I start by saying that I agree with the theory of we and our ally’s minimizing all imports from Russia and China. Unfortunately as we found out with one iteration of our China tariffs, we are totally dependent on refined rare earth minerals from China and needed to retreat from our position. Unfortunately we are dependent upon Russian refined uranium for our nuclear navy and possibly commercial reactors. Why will the Europeans take our guidance on energy purchases when we are unable to do the same? Our green policies have stifled so much mining and refining activity as well as port construction, we need to aggressively ease mining, refining and port construction regulations so that we can truly be energy independent as opposed to energy abundant. This is not red or blue this is national security. I am happy to have men on the moon and craft to mars challenges, how about some here on earth? rare earth and uranium mines in two years along with refining capacity?
