It would really make my weekend if just one of the anti-Trump commenters here on SB Current would explain why they're so incensed Trump hasn't come through on every promise he made since taking office in January, but they're going to vote in all the CA Democrats who haven't come through with the High Speed Rail in years and years and billions and billions.
90 trade deals in 90 days? Still waiting. Ending war in Ukraine with one phone call? Still waiting. Ending war in Gaza. Still waiting. Lower food prices? Still waiting.
Deep State dismantling? I guess the whole FBI protecting Epstein is out the window. I'm still waiting for Patel to release all the proof that there were FEDs dressed up and participating in the Jan 6 riots. I guess there is so much proof it's taking him a long time to present it properly.
But Trump has secured the border and is working on mass deportations. And he has gotten NATO to step up on paying their share.
All let all you older folks let me know next year if you pay income tax on your SS benefits.
Trump is learning that he needs to delegate more of these tasks to responsible individuals. Myself, I don't believe Patel is the right guy, perhaps Bongino is the right person as Director of the FBI. Trump seems to lean on "looks" of people and not their performance. Need smart people running solo than in the committee mode. In committees, nobody takes the bull by the horns. I've personally witnessed the no-activity of those working out solutions in a committee mode ... forget that anything will be done. Trump is a very visual person, no problem with that, but he needs to have his visually appealing workers to perform. If you've noticed, there are no ugly people working for Trump <g>.
Ask and you shall receive! Trump's "promises" were no such thing! They were a cult leader's manifesto. Did he promise to round up disabled Iraq war veterans who are U.S. citizens? Did he promise to round up anyone and everyone he pleases without a warrant or due process? Did he promise to enrich himself through the sale of meme coins and Chinese printed Bibles? Did he promise to ignore binding judicial court orders and terminate the 'rule of law' in the United States? What about his promise to end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza? Did he promise to end health care for millions of Americans and close rural hospitals? Did he promise to abolish FEMA and leave each state to fend for itself? Thank God you live here and not in Mississippi where they don't even have enough state funds to cover the cost of school books, let alone hurricane and flood recovery.
Why is it that supposed "comments" about a particular subject immediately turn into rants about Trump? Why can't you ranters find somewhere else to blow off steam? Why weigh this website down with your idiocy? In this case, the writer is trying to have a discussion about a fast train to nowhere that has become an enormous union boondoggle costing every taxpaying citizen serious money. Why can't you morons simply address that situation with... wait for it... suggested solutions? Thoughtful proposals? Have an intelligent discussion? It is so boring to put up with – once again – the crap that seeps into every thought you have. Get a life. Obtain a "I Hate Trump" sign and parade down State Street. Do something useful and ignore what concerned citizens are trying to accomplish on SB Current. Tell somebody who cares because we certainly don't.
It's all Democrats have, their entire platform, and personal existence is tied to three words "Trump did it" , they have no substance beyond that. My personal observation of those I know is that most are either on meds, or should be on meds. Very odd world they live in, definitely a psychiatric disorder.
Jimmy, it appears that one of your regular readers and sporadic writers, Ms. Frost, was the first to comment by bringing up Trump,
by soliciting comments from other readers/opponents of Trump, by way of asking the following;
“It would really make my weekend if just one of the anti-Trump commenters here on SB Current would explain why they're so incensed Trump hasn't come through on every promise he made since taking office in January”
Your rant was entertaining by the way, best one yet!
The “block” feature is useful, after certain posters demonstrate a predictable pattern of intentional disruption. Blocks the trigger responses, which is their real payoff. Then they finally die from lack of oxygen, when they no longer get their Pavlovian hits.
Props to Mr Buckley for running a censorship free website that exposes us to these now predictable rants, but only if we keep choosing to go to the nuisance. If you miss a good TDS screed, SB Independent Angry Poodle keeps cranking out doozies. Latest one is in a class by itself.
Otherwise, just start building up your blocked file. Make SB Currents great again too.
Amen and thank you Jim. My point was that I knew that as soon as the project was announced that the California approach would delay it and increase the cost so much that it would be Dead- on-arrival. That approach continues to exist. The Democrats approach is to create an impossible set of regulations and then offer exemptions for the projects they support, such as the new L.A. Rams stadium that the state admits could never be completed without the exemptions. A great discussion would be how these exemptions are obtained.
Stephen, what an unexpected visit, nice to see you! If they have more state funds here it's because they don't use them for fire recovery, like in Altadena and Pacific Palisades. And we're not ranked much above Mississippi when it comes to public school education. As for Trump … he's either a dictator or a failed super hero, right?
I appreciate Trumps's role of appearing to be in a dictator mode and living in gold-leaf castles. He takes the bull by the horns. I recall an engineering manager once saying to me that he was a benevolent dictator. Sometimes you have to appear as being a dictator to get things done.
Sorry, but the bullet fired by the disgruntled MAGA psycho was deflected by Satan who sent it into a volunteer fireman, husband, and father. If "God" spared Trump, then He choose to kill a fireman instead? Get real. Trump is destroying America, just look around you. His mismanagement of covid during his first term killed 1,000,000 Americans - now he is killing us with a revival of measles and FEMA mismanagement. During the Temptation of Christ, the devil offered Jesus authority over any kingdom in the world if Christ would only "fall down and worship" him. Christ refused to do so, but Christ did NOT refute or deny the devil's authority to bestow state power on those who are willing to "fall down and worship" him. The Pledge of Allegiance ends with "Liberty and Justice for ALL" and NOT "Liberty fo' just us, y'all"! Stop hating your less fortunate neighbors; instead welcome, clothe, feed and heal them - just like Jesus taught us to do.
Stephen, that's truly wonderful you're opening your house to everyone! I have 1758 illegal immigrants ready to meet you at your ATM and then onto your house! Just let me know the ATM address to meet you at - and the bus convoy taking them would like to be paid in cash. Thank you in advance!
Thanks for the kind offer, but that will not be necessary. I am sure you are familiar with the saying "there is strength in numbers." It would be ridiculous and impossible to accommodate so many people in my small dwelling, therefore I support organizations who can! There are several organizations in Santa Barbara County that offer support to immigrants, including legal services, education, and emergency assistance. Immigrant Hope Santa Barbara provides low-cost immigration legal services and education, including English classes and citizenship preparation. The Santa Barbara County Immigrant Legal Defense Center focuses on providing pro bono legal representation to indigent immigrants facing deportation. Additionally, the 805UndocuFund offers emergency financial assistance to undocumented and mixed-status families in the area. There are many others. Pick one and get out your checkbook and make a donation, together we can accomplish more with no need to jam all those poor people into my little house. Thank you in advance for helping the poor and harassed immigrant community that picks your food.
Fact? A fact is a statement or piece of information that can be objectively verified as true or false. I think you mean a statement of belief or faith. That so many people can't tell the difference is one of the biggest problems the world faces.
why live in the doldrums…Orange Man Bad has the backing of American citizens by large majorities on the big ticket items, some running north the 75%/25%… look on the bright side, the best is yet to come…let the man cook & sit back & Enjoy The Show!
We have a transportation crisis. We have a climate emergency. We have a health disaster. There is a housing crisis, don't ya know. When you hear crisis, emergency, disaster or other dire warnings from politicians, hold on to your wallet cause the government is coming to help. Face it, the government wants your money and the best way to get it is to instill fear of an imaginary demon so fierce that it can only be tempered through government spending. Notice that the bugbear is never defeated but significant progress is being made and only through continued spending will we be saved. Now we all must notice that despite all this wealth redistribution from those who produce value to those who consume value, the problems are never solved. If I were a conspiracy theorist I might imagine that the raison d'être for crises is just an excuse for the government to spend.
I remember voting for the Train with enthusiasm. I have a yearning for a ferry-train like they have in Europe where your car is loaded on, and you proceed to the observation car and enjoy an adult beverage and glide up the state. Even better, give me one that lets you load up your tow vehicle AND equine transport trailer and then disembark to go for trail rides at a distance without having to endure the 99 or I-5. Hell, it was just a pipe dream. I'm very fond of train travel in theory, but I have to say that Amtrak has declined in my years of usage and comparing it to what is available in the rest of the world is very sad. Fulfilling all the predictions Ayn Rand made back in the 1950's. It should be the interstate connection we could all rely on, but instead the highways took priority and the local streets have potholes and here we sit in our jewel of a seaside town watching as our local representatives are examples of grift and graft and business as usual, turtles all the way down.
Someone needs to receive the Grand Prize for suggesting the promise of a "train" as a money gathering method ... genius prank. I can think back when I was about ten in the mid-1950's when a real, live steam train came through our town's train depot in Reading, MA. Trains have immense power with a movement nothing will stop them ... essentially powering through anything. The masses took the bait on the promise of a magnificent train system moving people quickly to their destination. More amazingly is the ability of the taxpayer to be patient and wait for all this grandeur to happen at the same time the governments were stealing our dream and filling their pockets with the money of the masses. Promis a train and you too can become rich.
What I don't get is who'se gonna be taking this stupid train? I don't believe those 'ridership' stats - _at all_! Dump this union money - hustle ASAFP!
Great article Brent! I’m wondering if those planning this project could have selected a right of way that we already control. For example, the middle of a freeway, or alongside the California Aqueduct. A true monorail might have a much smaller footprint. I believe a rocket train could have great ridership. If it took three hours to get from Los Angeles to San Francisco, I would take the train. Much more comfortable.
The US has a problem. Infrastructure is poor and getting worse. This is a failure in the planning processes. A wish to include all and varied viewpoints creates many turgid review processes. AKA a waste of time and money. Other countries do it, why can't we?
Polly to be anti Trump does not mean pro CTTN and voting Democrat.
Had a great day at the Mission Car Show. Every thing from Low Riders, to vintage and classic cars. These were and are the show of success. Some thing the Democrat majority in Sacramento and the city councils of South SB County do not understand. "In the 17 years since the voters passed Proposition 1A, California has received $6.9 billion from the federal government.?
The road to no where is apt description of the Truth and Failure of the Sacramento.
The road to no where in Santa Barbara? $11 Million to destroy the Caltrans underpass on State St. that was intentionally designed as the primary emergency route out of the Harbor/Waterfront.
The road to no where that are the intentionally blocked streets like Sola St. (the HLC said no and the council emergency ordinance put a bullet in the back of the head of that agency)
The road to no where is the intention to close down more streets in Santa Barbara for zero vision of a council when informed Vision Zero had resulted in increased accidents, just as Los Angles has reported 15 years of VZ resluted in more accidents.
It is clear that ideology is more important then reality. The Democrat HSR Authority has already stated at best, the HSR project will not run at speed over 60% of its designed length.
What the public is faced with is a broad failure in transportation management. All the testimony of public records from MTD, the failed LOSSAN millions spent on commuter rail, roundabouts that were and are not needed.
The public deserves and demands honesty. That is not what is presented.
Mr. Zepke is right. The HSR is nothing more then a monument to failure. The $Billions of mis- spent money and the 10's of Billions in State deficit faced by the taxpayers is damning.
There you go. Thank you Mr. Zepke you have supported CAB's decades long reporting what appears to be a conspiracy to mislead the public.
Having experienced "high speed rail" in foreign countries, I can tell you, it is amazing! However, I always questioned the feasibility of having one in this country because we have more than enough fools who would park a truck across the tracks just to watch the collision.
Stephen, I, too, enjoyed the high speed rail" from Lyon to Paris. When I lived in Delaware, my train ride to D.C. and N.Y. took less than two hours and the stations were downtown. The cost was not much more than the cost of driving and parking.
Lots of my neighbors have trucks and they are not fools. Please read my comment again and you will see that the "fool" I referred to parked his truck on a high speed rail line just to match a collision. Perhaps "fool" is too kind a word for such an individual?
It would really make my weekend if just one of the anti-Trump commenters here on SB Current would explain why they're so incensed Trump hasn't come through on every promise he made since taking office in January, but they're going to vote in all the CA Democrats who haven't come through with the High Speed Rail in years and years and billions and billions.

The rail project is to spending as a cracker is to caviar.
You should be writing for Newsom. He'd straightfacedly use that line.
High speed rail is a transportation project transporting your money to government.
Ya, it's a "money train for the governments."
Ask and you shall receive! Trump's "promises" were no such thing! They were a cult leader's manifesto. Did he promise to round up disabled Iraq war veterans who are U.S. citizens? Trump was spared in Butler by God so that he could save America. He can do no wrong because he was anointed by God. How dare you question His hand.
Finally! Someone got it right!
More likely spared by poor marksmanship and a lousy rifle sight.
Sorry, but the bullet fired by the disgruntled MAGA psycho was deflected by Satan who sent it into a volunteer fireman, husband, and father. Simply a factual statement.
Fact? A fact is a statement or piece of information that can be objectively verified as true or false. I think you mean a statement of belief or faith. That so many people can't tell the difference is one of the biggest problems the world faces.
No. Faith is just that. Fact is a marksman with a Remington Model 70 in .243 with a sighted scope would not have missed.
It is an antithesis to Seisman who I find to be a repulsive broken record. It does not necessarily embody my true sentiment.
Don't thank Jeff, thank God.

Sorry to repost what you posted, Steven!
It's better to repeat what someone else has said rather than what you've said.
Well, I wasn't repeating or reposting - but we had a pretty good overlap of sentiment about the lots of Trump promises not happening.
Sounds like we would have been better off with Kamala Harris!
We have a transportation crisis. We have a climate emergency. We have a health disaster. There is a housing crisis, don't ya know. Interesting Brent ... a good example of government graft. Shovel-Ready = Filling Pockets
This project is the literal definition of a boondoggle
Or Einstein’s definition of insanity
An easy answer: cut losses + dump the project. The money spent with NOTHING productive is an appalling waste of public funds.
The somewhat finished structures could be part of a tourist tour with snacks and a bar at each location.

A pro union boondoggle with the taxpayers as suckers
Decades ago the Portland-Salem commuter train was subsidized $23,000.00 a rider by Oregon taxpayers.
Amtrak is still needing taxpayer bailouts.
A major problem is our uneducated voters.
'Uneducated' voters - you mean _stupid_, right?

I read this article titled "California’s Train to Nowhere"
by Brent E. Zepke, Esq. I interrupt this article and suggest
SB Current to write a follow-up to the recent Independent's
Article yesterday by SB DA John Savrnoch titled>
"Santa Barbara DA Addresses Recent Immigration Enforcement Action"
https://www.independent.com/2025/07/11/an-attempt-to-fulfill-some-xenophobic-quota/
My proposed title to SB DA John Savrnoch's Independent Article>
"SB DA Must Practice What It Preaches Or It's A Train Wreck Going Nowhere"
I quote from the SB DA as follows>
"Concepts such as probable cause and due process must dictate the actions of
government officials and agencies. Political expediency, bias, racism, and
vindictiveness must never be the foundation of official government action."
Here are Questions for you Mr. Savrnoch? Did the SB DA commit a Hate Crime against a
women because of her Nationality on vindictiveness? And what about your statement that
"DUE PROCESS that must dictate the actions of the government".
Were Documents Concealed, Manufactured and Destroyed?
What about a Manufactured Search Warrant Affidavit Mr. John Savrnoch?
What SB Judges name was on that Manufactured Back-Dated Search Warrant Mr. Savrnoch?
And all those Feds Agents down at Camarillo you speak about who daily risk their lives.
Any Federal Agents here in Santa Barbara addressing the Corruption risked their lives?
For all and especially to SB DA John Savrnoch, I suggest you Memorize former
Executive Tom Parkers Independent article "Perceptions of Political Corruption
Too Often the Harbingers of Stark Reality" Because "Stark Realty" is here in Santa Barbara
Lastly Bonnie Bell and SB Currentors would like to know WHERE IS Joe Holland?
Any Large Funds Embezzled from the SB City or the County like before?>>>
