Flashback in honor of our upcoming April 15 date with the taxman: individuals desperately seeking actual legal requirements to pay individual income taxes and assert they found nothing. How did their claims hold up over time?
Prop 13 proved tax revolt is a proper option to keep in the political action tool kit. Prop 98 permanent California school funding in response to Prop 13, with no accountability strings attached, proves what voters should never do again.
Two sources of free flowing crack providing life support for Beltway and Sacramento bandits:(1) mandatory withholding taxes; and (2) Prop 98 mandatory distributions to state public education.
Yes Henry, the taxman cometh. Totally agree with the sentiment that we as homeowners are merely “caretakers.” We continue to pay ever increasing taxes in order to fund the bloated government machinery. So glad my kids are out of public schools, what an utter disaster. We continue to fund a system which has failed our children miserably…all funded by property owners. Interesting how many wealthy land owners in SB County eliminate their property taxes all together by donating their property to “SB Land trust.” That’s maybe what people will have to do in the future when they pass, ie turn over your home keys to County coffers in order to fund this crushing debt. So much for leaving your home to your kids.
Let’s see, 1 in 7 properties now tax exempt? That number will continue to go up, leaving the rest of us to pick up the tab. When will the money run out? Where is UCSB Economic Forecasting as to when the music stops and all the chairs are gone?
Is anyone surprised that Governor Newsom is now hitting up the Fed for $4 billion to shore up Medical? Why? Because the money supposedly was spent caring for illegals who have now bankrupted our system. Or, how about Newsom also pleading for nearly $40 billion from federal taxpayers in order to fund the rebuilding of LA?…and then finding the time to “rebrand” himself on a new podcast platform!
Speaking of Dr. Jill, we should wonder who was calling the shots behind the curtain of Oz. Who were these unknown people governing the country? Any article written of that subject? I suppose it doesn't matter as long as they had the leftist-Dem label.
Apropos of your excellent piece, I just this minute got a mass email from Laura Capps, who suddenly wants to connect with us! I especially love her thing of having our questions in advance! 😂😂😂😂😂 Henry - here's your chance! You need to send this piece to her because I'm sure she'll respond to everything you raise.
Here's Laura!
“My team and I are launching Capps’ County Connection, a quarterly virtual town hall for you to ask me and County leadership questions and get answers. Given the urgency, we’ll touch on fire safety and preparedness. I look to you and your questions for the rest of the conversation!
▶️ The event will be held on Zoom on Monday, March 17 from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. Please email Daniela Aguirre (DAguirre@countyofsb.org) for the registration and link to submit your questions in advance. I look forward to seeing you there!”
Sounds like a CONTROLLED setup where Dems only allow their topics and speakers. Dems don’t want to be transparent. They just don’t get it. We are tired of their woke agenda. Dems will never change. They steal our money and our rights. I’m done with ALL DEMS politicians and their supporters/voters.
I still contend the growth of education administration is in direct correlation with the growth and complexity of the California Education Code - written by teacher union and CSEA (SEIU) dominated state legislators: Gregg Hart and Monique Limon both qualify for this title. I will be very happy to be proven wrong.
Time to also review current school accreditation standards to see how much "social policy" now also drives education accreditation standards.
God Bless America and President Trump, and Elon and everybody who is dismantling the wasteful corrupt and often illegal Deep State. Thank you to you all. Exactly what we voted for.
Just to add a sideways comment, I'll address the idea that the easiest way to make an enemy is to loan them money.
Decades ago I read a 1900's book called THE GOLDFISH by Anonymous, (that I bought in a thrift store for the cover) and the part I have carried with me ever since was this: If there is someone you'd like to get out of your life, perhaps one who conveniently comes visiting uninvited at dinner hour, he gave a solution.
In a closet next to the front door keep a selection of coats you no longer want. As the freeloader goes to leave press upon them one of the coats. Say "I'm concerned you won't be warm enough on the trip home. Please, let me LOAN you this, it is one of my FAVORITE coats and it'll keep you cozy warm."
You'll never see them again.
Helen Gurley Brown, editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine for 32 years, called this "Holding Marker." Rich people invite others to dinner, but do not accept reciprocal invitations. That makes the relationship unequal, and the result is one person defers to the other.
Watch for this behavior in politics, both international and local. The freeloading illegals who have broken the California medical system and fill the classrooms resent their position, and their enablers will go to whatever lengths they can to tax the citizens to continue to support them. No one values what they get for free.
Citizen taxpayers duped by the media want to continue to "support" Ukraine the same way they got behind BLM and the CCP jab. At tax time the cost becomes all the more obvious.
I don’t know about Zelinsky or Putin or any of these other jerks. The only thing I know or care about is America and having a big, strong military that will allow us to mind our own business and tell ‘em all to go jump in the lake.
We can’t be total isolationists so we’ll keep up a dialog, but they’ll know if the kimchee hits the fan we can blow ‘em all away!
Do you remember that we promised Russia we wouldn’t move NATO one inch eastward? Then our brightest official, Kamala, announced that Ukraine would be a NATO nation. That was the last straw for Putin.
Zelenski is laughing all the way to the bank. He's probably the richest guy in the world by now and Putin made him rich by starting a war the U.S. would pay Zelensky to fight. One dollar for the war and one dollar for Zelensky. I think he figured out he could live with the money he has gained.
Taxpayers only want working roads to get to the food store and back. Keep the water flowing. Get the bad guys and put out fires. Anything else should be eliminated ... and the people associated with "anything else."
insult to injury ...........................................
The real insult is the Democrat Party who accused Republicans of wanting to break the government when they held all the cards. Now Chuckie has been forced to do what he demanded in the most insulting manner for Republicans to do. Now isn't that peachy.
I find it interesting that there are a number of States who have bills to "remove" Property Taxes. Wow, you might be able to afford to own and operate what you live on.
Of course the costs of government will be on retail sales. Opp's that means ever item you buy will have a list of just how expensive government has become. It will stare you in the face every single day. Want to bet all politicians will then have the voters in their faces demanding government lean out and become effective? Opp's there is Trumpism again.
What will happen to the office of the Tax Collector who's job it is to collect property taxes?
Ukraine? A sad condition allowed by an uncaring population in Russia as long as it did not hit them in the pocket or grave sites. All I can hope is the Russian Fleet that has been destroyed will not be allowed to have ports that will eventually menace everyone.
Spot on. Wouldn’t it be interesting if we all stop paying property tax !!! I believe the people in the palisades should get all their tax money that they paid back. Of course, now they don’t have a house but empty land. I wonder if any of them are going to pay property tax on that.
It’s remarkable how you and the left can just make random statements and think you’re right. It’s so easy to toss out garbage and personal attacks but nothing to ever back anything up. My draft number was 270 during the last year of the draft. It was over by the time it got around to me. But my wife and I started Santa Barbara County Veterans Foundation and have donated thousands of dollars to our local veterans over the past 15 years. A Christmas foundation was also started where we help veterans families with gifts, Xmas trees, rent and even school. Maybe you want to sit on that ivory tower with me.
1. Chemical labs run by US agencies in Ukraine to create more diseases to kill millions
2. Biden family crime organization laundering tax payers money for personal gain. Along with other politicians getting kickbacks who voted for it
3. US war machine profiting off contracts.
4. Trump trying to recoup some of the billions of taxpayer dollars via getting minerals (maybe pennies on the dollar that Biden stole)
5. That’s a cesspool of bad actors that the Dems and Repukes got us into.
6. And lastly to all those that support this war,(I’m talking to you voters). If you’re so hot to trot. SEND YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS TO BE SLANDERED AND MONEY TO BE WASTED and leave me out.
Yep, taxes are too high and I can’t afford to live in the home I built. Government is bloated, far too big at every level: BOS, Councils, school boards. As per one example at SBUSD: Trustee Celeste Kafri's math shows that management costs have grown by almost 25 percent in the last two years, while enrollment has dropped by 15 percent. If looking at per-pupil spending, she added, site administration costs have increased 28 percent since 2022. Tell me what do all these entitled, highly taxpayer compensated employees do? Why does County Ed have 833 employees? Because that’s where you’re sent when terminated for pay until pension eligible.
Take a look at our schools, then the County and City 2023 salaries.
2023 salaries for Santa Barbara Unified - 2,884 employees
There it is a list staring the taxpayer in the face. Eliminate Property Taxes and then the shopper will see every single day how much government is costing them. The anger will be massive.
What has serving in the military have to do with anything, I ask? I didn't serve in the military when the Vietnam War was going on full throttle. I had student and occupational deferments for various reasons. And the deferments have nothing to do with my belief of "fight for freedom and democracy," as Julia might say as she sits in her ivory tower.
That wasn't meant as negative Bill. Seems like the deaths on both sides sadden him. Just wondering if he had served. The handful of Vietnam-era vets I know seem more adamantly pro-Ukraine. But they live in SB, so that might not be a representative sample.
And just 4 days after Tax Day is the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. "I don't care what the judges say," declared Trump's Border Czar Tom Homan; so our Republic's 'Rule of Law' has been replaced by the kingly edicts of Putin's puppet, which we are now expected to blindly obey? F.T.S. NO KING THEN, NO KING NOW!

You simply can’t make this up it’s so outrageous.
Ya, it's so sad we had a President that attempted to destroy the country. He should be hung by his balls.
Wow Russ, no reason to go mid evil. Especially, since it was really Dr. Jill calling the shots from the get go!
OK, firing squad (aiming at the balls).
Speaking of Dr. Jill, we should wonder who was calling the shots behind the curtain of Oz. Who were these unknown people governing the country? Any article written of that subject? I suppose it doesn't matter as long as they had the leftist-Dem label.
Then hang both of them!

We vote to let them do this to us. In our one-party town.

Bravo Henry! Great observations
Do you remember that we promised Russia we wouldn’t move NATO one inch eastward? Then our brightest official, Kamala, announced that Ukraine would be a NATO nation. That was the last straw for Putin.
Remember the Cuban missile crisis?
We provoked Russia into this war.

Rita, take a look at this opinion piece about the lack of a legal foundation for mandatory US taxation . Good discussion staring point: https://rumble.com/v6qndc2-flashback-multiple-experts-claim-there-is-no-legal-requirement-to-pay-the-p.html
Repealing the 16th Amendment is doable. Which is why the Founders included the Amendment clause in the US Constitution.

Interesting essay.
But you left out the parts of:

Mr. Schulte,
You have no idea what Zelensky and his country are fighting for. Come down from your ivory tower.
Schulte is old enough. Wonder if he's ever served in the military?
Even if he did, he doesn’t know what fighting for freedom and democracy is.

Got it. They were unnecessary deaths on both sides. It's amazing how one person can be responsible for the death of so many.
You mean like trump and Covid-19?
Dear Bot Julia, I was referring to Putin.
