We see this NOW with the just announced “Chumash Marine Sanctuary” under NOAA. Yes, that’s right, limit or abolish commercial fishing and give authority to a single ethnic group. As if Casinos were not already enough!

Methinks the local “enviro” ire against the twenty or so annual cruise ship visits smacks more of class envy, because one hears few to no protests against the 24/7 heavy cargo and tanker traffic off our waters. Visiting the Marine Traffic website shows what boats float amongst us on a daily basis. So why are only cruise ships targeted?
Local protests are mainly uncorroborated hysteria from the Zero Tolerance crowd. That said, limits are appropriate; bans and calculated hysteria after every sighting is a single cruise ship off our harbor is not. Banning cruise ships belongs in the State Street Death Valley file. For several decades I've been buying our produce and meat as much as possible from small farms. I cook almost all our meals. People will say to me that it's too expensive and I always say to them that I'm not just buying our own food, I'm supporting the production of real food for others. Joel Salatin, Steve Sando, Ariane Daguin, Edward Abbey, Paul Watson are some of my longtime heroes. In Santa Barbara we have some amazing food producers and sellers - Victoria Voss and Kim Selkoe of Get Hooked, Gaia Farm. When we lived in NYC my heroes were also the cab drivers and working class people who would tell me about how they were feeding their families through growing food, fishing. These are the people whose words and actions I have trusted, not politicians.
