Have you ever wondered why or how our or your American culture has drifted so far from where it was, say, thirty years ago or more?
How has it come to pass that so many people think it’s okay that a school administrator, teacher, nurse, or official, can arbitrarily decide that you should no longer be in charge of your child after that child has been convinced by those same teachers, administrators, nurses, or whatever, that he or she was “born in the wrong body” or had been “identified” as the wrong sex at birth?
Have you wondered too how “Drag Queen Story Hour,” for example, became an appropriate event for your six-year-old to attend and, worse, when you object or question the wisdom of holding such an event and suggesting or insisting that your child shouldn’t attend, you are subject to ridicule and worse?
How is it that so many parents have accepted the above with aplomb and indifference, sometimes even with enthusiasm?
Something is very wrong.
Where did our/your rights go?
And how did it happen?
In Ernest Hemingway’s novel, “The Sun Also Rises,” two hard-drinking World War I vets – Mike and Bill – are having a conversation about their lives. Bill asks Mike, “How did you go bankrupt?” Mike answers, “Two ways, gradually, and then suddenly.”
This is precisely how we got here.
A virus called DEI (Diversity! Equity! Inclusion!) entered the bureaucracy a couple decades ago and has wormed its way into every corner of our lives. Today, new hires in even the smallest business, if it uses an outside accounting or bookkeeping service for payroll, are required to sit through a lengthy indoctrination video that is nothing more than propaganda for left-wing causes.
Most people want the job they are trying to qualify for, and most business owners give it no thought; it’s just another BS government requirement.
But it’s more than that. Much more.
Which is why we now have school boards that accept – even encourage – their bureaucracies to take over the duties of parents who question the wisdom of their decisions.
To the point that now in California, Minnesota, and elsewhere, if your under-age child is taken to one of these “sanctuary” states and is looking for “gender-affirming” care, you – the parent – are legally helpless.
So, just as DEI started small and has now taken over many institutions – particularly school districts – the best and probably only way one can reverse this evil tide is to get oneself on a school board, district board, or one of these other positions listed below.
Time is short this time around, so even if you can’t answer the call this year, add your name to a list of potential candidates and as openings occur you may be selected.

Thanks, Jim, for a piece that is only called “fear mongering” by those who think there should be no questioning of our public policies. Public policies should always be questioned and calling it “fear mongering” is just a way the Left has of shutting down reasonable discourse.
Nine years ago, when I first moved back to Santa Barbara where I grew up, I couldn't believe how many people I met talked about the need for more diversity in this city - in the very first conversation we had. They'd say how much it bothers them to live here. Sure, the weather is great, the city is surrounded by ocean and mountains, but they couldn't enjoy their life here because it just isn't diverse enough. At a dinner party I was seated next to a woman who went on and on, complaining bitterly about “the lack of diversity” here and finally I asked, “So why don't you move to Memphis? Or Baltimore?” She acted shocked by my question. “Because this is where I need to be, to fight for diversity.” It turned out she was working in the diversity section of some public non-profit here. Being paid nicely, I'm sure.
Then there was the head of Santa Barbara Botanical Garden who sent out an offensive email during the BLM summer saying he would not tolerate racism at The Garden. I wrote him back and said I've been going to The Garden since I was a kid and I have never seen non-white people turned away at the gate or harassed on the trails. He said, “It happens.” I replied “It happens that as much as I love The Garden you are never going to get another donation from me until you apologize for this insulting nonsense.” He didn't of course, and I'm not a member any longer.
So, let's stop this charade. DEI people are here because they DON'T want to live in a diverse city. They do not want to spend their days and nights actually doing something for non-white people, like being a paramedic on the South Side of Chicago. They just want to morally grandstand and do yoga on the beach and feel good about being complete hypocrites.
Anyone who sends their children to a government school deserves what they get.
