Love this column, Henry. I'm amazed and disheartened that people still support the Democratic Party in CA after the Altadena and Pacific Palisades fires. I spent my first 15 years in Altadena before my family moved to SB. It is heartbreaking to see my beloved town, and my old street and childhood home on Google Maps - burned like a bomb had dropped on it. Why aren't the people who live there outraged at Newsom for working on his podcast rather than showing up there to help? Why aren't they demanding, at the very least, an apology from him about how badly forest management has been under his party?

I read that to date only seven building permits have been issued. What an opportunity to extort money from the fire victims through the permitting process.

Many of them are at the Tesla dealership now. I would say several hundred souls in fear of losing their government check along with a smaller number of patriots who support the elimination of wasted tax dollars.

Maybe they think it's worth making a stink that Trump's new best friend talked him into tariffs on so much of Tesla's competition?

Expand full comment
Jeff barton's avatar

Were you in on the decision? How do you know what role Musk had in the decision? The tariff applies to that portion of the vehicle made overseas. What you are saying is that somehow Musk is doing this for financial gain. Clearly he is not getting paid and his involvement is certainly hurting him financially. The same can be said of Trump. The protesters most common theme is that Musk is a Nazi and a threat to democracy. Yet, DOGE cuts are enumerated on the DOGE website. I have not heard one Musk hater indicate a single cut that was objectionable and why. Their rants are childish and lack any substance. I think they fear losing some government perk or are on the payroll and cant name five things they did last week.

How do you know he's unbiased and fair - where you in on the decision?

I'm just giving a more likely reason that folks in SB would protest.

You haven't heard one DOGE 'single cut' that was objectionable and why? Or just one that you find objectionable?

Jeff barton's avatar

I do not believe Musk is doing DOGE for personal gain. I have no special knowledge of what goes into Trump's tariff decisions. Everything Trump and Musk are doing is consistent with bringing manufacturing and manufacturing jobs back to America and cutting the dead wood out of government. Democrats are group thinkers and followers and easily manipulated. The drones protesting today at the Tesla dealer are mindless parrots doing the bidding of the Democrat party. As an aside, I worked at JPL for three months until I could not stand it any more and quit. The complete lack of work ethic and sense of entitlement were revolting. I was told right off that I did not need to show up for the hours I was paid for. Forget trying to get anything done in a timely fashion as half of the staff were absent at any given time and if they were there good luck getting them off their asses. I was the only conservative in the whole damned place as far as i could tell, all Democrats basking in government cheese. JPL should be DOGED.

Musk could do what JPL does with one tenth the staff and one tenth the budget. Then he would be criticized for the efficiency because the freeloaders were now unemployed. Sympathy for the freeloaders, they have cats to feed too don't you know. There seems to be a fundamental disconnect in the mind of the Democrat between pay and productivity. The Democrat does not feel that anything need be produced in exchange for a pay check. The Democrat feels entitled by his very existence to be paid. This attitude is overt in calls for universal living wage. The Democrat is offended by the proposition that some value must be created in exchange for pay.

Jeff, I attended the rally today along with a dozen or so Musk/Trump supporters. We were outnumbered by at least 20 to 1 or so. Those on the left carrying the usual vile slanderous signs, accusing Musk of being a Nazi, fascist etc. insults, intimidation and bullying was incoming and directed our way. What amazes me was the advanced age of many of these “justice warriors,” several carrying Ukrainian flags. It dawned on me, don’t they support peace efforts made by Trump? Further wondering, don’t they understand the financial peril we now find ourselves in?

My conclusion after leaving somewhat dejected was, we are in big trouble in our City and County if this represents the majority of the voting public. Maybe many being retired public servants? Our only hope is that of young people realizing that having a job (non government) and home ownership will only be possible based on a thriving economy made possible by capitalism.

LT, thank you for attending and showing support. I have lived here in Santa Barbara since 1985 and can say that this beautiful place has been ruined by progressive politics. Like a beautiful woman who who is so vile on the inside that she is no longer attractive, so Santa Barbara has lost all of its appeal to me. But for obligations to care for aging family, I would have left this place years ago. I am surrounded by immediate neighbors who hate Trump and all things conservative. Several retired from UCSB or other public freeloaders. They think I am an ignorant hayseed and I cant write what I think of them. It is sad that we have become so divided in this country but I don't see either side relenting. You are right that the the future depends on our youth and I am heartened by the fact that Trump has gained popularity with gen Z. In the meantime, I hope to leave this beautiful place filled with ugly evil people to live my remaining years among like minded people. I am sure my neighbors would say don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Great analogy of the reality show “Survivor” and the Democratic Party. Clearly, the Dems have lost the Immunity Challenge and have been voted off the island by the electorate. Yes, the Dems have evolved into a death and hate cult, resorting to violence, public cursing and unhinged demonstrations. The burning of Tesla dealerships is something right out of the Klu Klux Klan playbook back in the 60’s.

If the Dems are ever to regain trust with the American people, they must denounce all forms of violence, intimidation and criminality. If not, working class voters will simply reject their Party.

In the meantime, the Trump administration by virtue of DOGE, is unraveling their web of malfeasance, fraud and corruption. You would think reasonable party members would be in favor of efficient government, but no, they continue to double down, defending their outrageous policies for all to see. I just heard the rebuilding of PP can now only be done now if homeowners agree to all electric energy powered homes. In essence, holding home owners captive to a green agenda.

Time will tell, but if we see now what are things to come, their Party is done. Turn out the lights, the Party is over!

I read this article titled "Democrites: Humans Who Have Lost All Common Sense

by Henry Schulte" and I provide a supporting title of "Tribal Warfare Alive

In Santa Barbara by the SB So-Called-Leaders" I quote from Mr. Schulte as follows>

"The Democrite Tribe has become one big reality show of Survivor. Its members are conniving, manipulating, changing the meaning of words, back-stabbing and doing whatever it takes to desperately cling to whatever smidgeons of power they have left." AND "Valley Of Hate ...

It was all a ruse. Even someone as educated as Mark Kelly gets sucked into the Valley of Hate."

You can read about "Tribal Warfare" that is Thriving in Santa Barbara Here>

https://www.culturalsurvival.org/publications/cultural-survival-quarterly/tribal-warfare-and-ethnic-conflict

Any "Perceived Threat" to the Tribes Power, think SB So-Called-Leaders, they will target that

person or group and will utterly destroy that person or group. Think JFK and now DJT however right here in our Lil Ole Beach Town of Santa Barbara Targeting is a Game-Sport much like

Mr. Schulte's favorite "Survivor" TV Program but this is no game in American or in Santa Barbara.

President Trump had two near Assassination Attempts on his life and we still do not have a Investigaton Reports nor do we have ALL OF THE RECORDS OF JFK'S ASSASSINATION.

Something is terribly wrong as Mr. Schulte has Cleary pointed and I quote from same>

"It was all a ruse. Even someone as educated as Mark Kelly gets sucked into the Valley of Hate"

So Are the Hate-Filled Riding Into the "Valley of Death" as in Edgar Allen Poe's Poem as the

British Calvary Attacked the Russian's Strong Point at Balaclava, Crimea. SOUND FAMILIAR?

https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45319/the-charge-of-the-light-brigade

Forward, the Light Brigade!

Was there a man dismayed?

Not though the soldier knew

Someone had BLUNDERED!

Theirs not to make reply,

Theirs not to reason why,

Theirs but to do and die.

Into the "Valley of Death"

Rode the six hundred.

When will Americans wake up to the [D] party con that is continually pushed without facts, without support, and supported and further pushed by the media arm of the [D] party [FAKE NEWS MEDIA]?

Reading your comments here further demonstrates the seriousness of media brainwashing in our Country whereby statements are considered fact w/o the need to provide proof.

Group-Think.

Control of the Narrative.

If enough people state the same thing w/o providing evidence and/or support does it become FACTUAL to those caught in the loop?

Maybe time to think independently?

You’re “astonished” that Mark Kelly sold his Tesla in protest to what Musk is doing to the country but not “astonished” that Musk called him a traitor?? (Musk is not even a veteran) I find that curious! Hate, power and greed are the hallmarks of the Republican Party. Own it. What was the term used for democrats who were obsessed with Trump? DTDS? We need one for the Republicans who are totally obsessed with dissing the Democrats while the country burns and their cult leaders lie to the American public. We need a new party that is centrist and sane. Yes, government was bloated but the cruel, chaotic and mindless way this is happening is TRULY astonishing. It’s lawless. I guess you support ignoring the rule of law as the “new Republican way”. I find THAT astonishing.

Let's begin with Musk not even being a veteran. I'm not a veteran but established the Santa Barbara County Veterans Foundation 15 years ago and our group has donated thousands of dollars to local veterans. You don't have to be a vet to care. You reference while the country burns. I know you don't mean that silly remark as literal but where were you and the democrats when the country was really burning? Billions in damage and dozens of lost lives and the left had tape over their mouths. You try and bestow up republicans as the party of hate. We're not dissing democrats we're pointing out truths and facts, something the left just can't stand, hearing the truth. No one is breaking the law Trump is bringing the law back. Please explain, without emotion, what is wrong with reducing the waste in government, no matter who the blame, sending killers and rapists back to the prisons they were let out from? Show me the negative. The left have no idea what they're doing right now and they needed another boogie man. Trump survived all the false attempts to bring him down, so those in the darker recesses of the left launched a campaign to go after Elon and all the sheep got in line; following orders they weren't aware they were given. Go after Musk. How moronic to go after Tesla. A friggin car. A car millions of liberals are driving around in today ducking their heads when only last year they puffed their chests that they were better than everyone else because they cared.

Senator Kelly illustrated the lie in the Democrats not only proclaiming climate change was the biggest threat to the US, but in sending taxpayers dollars to the Paris Accord or any other person, such as Stacey Abrams, who alleged a project that could affect climate change, when he attacked the only person/company that actually did something for climate change. Their top priority is destroying the person(s) who threaten their power.

A great factual discussion of the Dem reversals, Henry. The big outcome for me about the Dems is learning they don't really care about their causes as long as they are counter to anything the Republicans do. It's really very childlike representation of the Dems when studying their reversals. I would be embarrassed to look incredibly stupid with the switcheroonies they continuously pull-off. Obviously, climate control isn't really an issue, but simply a "money box."

Mr. Schulte,

I too, am a Survivor fan, so let’s look at the other tribe. The Repulsives, who have adopted the rules from “The Lord of the Flies” or actually no rules. All the tribes go through all the different human emotions. I did notice that the oldies aren’t as present as they once were, and as far as I know, we all still say “you guys”.

Words are also important to the Repulsive tribe. Some of their favorite ones are fake, woke, criminal, illegal, bad people. The Repulsive tribe is very good at obfuscating. Do you know that “woke” started out as a very positive word, but the repulsive have turned it into a negative word. There are millions of people that are proud to be “woke”, which actually means awake, informed, in the know about what’s going on.

What does the word “woke” mean to you? I’d really like to know.

Not sure what you’re watching, but I haven’t heard any cursing. There might be a lot in private, but I believe both sides are guilty of that.

“Democrats have always functioned by different rules; they don’t have any. When you don’t have any scruples and change your moral compass every time the wind shifts you are pretty much free to do what you want“. I had to go back and reread your statement,I thought you had lost track and were talking about what’s going on in the trump administration at present, because you described it to a T. It’s also hypocritical, since trump is ignoring rules, laws and judges, and doing whatever he wants.

Crimes are on the rise all across the United States. Why is trump using the DOJ to work on the vandalism to Tesla sites? That should be handled by the local police. Is he afraid that musk will be downgraded to millionaire? The people that need trumps help, are children and the elderly, but yet his plan is to cut some of the services they need.

Expand full comment
Henry Schulte's avatar

You are correct Julia. Woke began as a way for the left to make all things crazy seem okay. The Right did turn it into what it really meant; the mutilation of children, DEI, burning down America, teaching communism in school, tearing down statues, drag hour in grade school, porno in the children’s section of the library and on and on. Woke also defines how you and the left twist truths to make it seem like it’s fact. The left actually gas lights itself.

As for Tesla. Again, the woke condones the tearing down of statues the burning of cities and going after Jews while supporting terrorists. But when it comes to shooting up dealerships and setting cars on fire in the name of hate, that’s not so bad. You justify such acts of violence to reducing the net worth of the man who has interest in the business. Did you praise Musk for bringing the astronauts back, providing phone service to South Carolina after the floods? Of course not. God forbid anything good can be said about such an evil man.

Have you heard Jasmine Crocket? Her mouth spews the F word more Hakeem Jeffries. The democrats have opened the flood gates of cursing because they’ve run out everything else. They’re lost and floundering in the political wilderness.

There’s so much more but I grow weary.

Expand full comment
Julia Gonzales's avatar

Henry,

I grow weary too, there is a lot, way too much. I want to offer my deepest condolences. It seems you are a shining example of the maga-rights definition of .”woke”. Your brain, heart and soul have died, all the things you described come from the warped, twisted, deranged minds of the maga-right. They see evil everywhere, where things aren’t to the maga-rights liking.

I don’t condone vandalism of any kind, but isn’t that what musk and trump have done to our government? They have vandalized it. Neither of these men have empathy for anyone. I saw an interview with Brett Baier with musk, where musk is near tears because of what’s going on with his Tesla dealerships, he says he was hurt. How does he think all the people that were fired feel? Sorry, I have no empathy for musk.

You could compare this to what trump’s army did to the Capital Building on January 6th, because he lost the election and he wanted to hold onto power. The insurrectionist caused millions in damages. I’ve mentioned trumps army before, it’s growing and continues to grow. His administration is filled with only trump loyalists.

Henry, did you ever speak up about all the hateful rhetoric, trump and his maga Republicans have spewed over the years? Name calling, outright lying about anyone speaking out on the corruption and conspiracies they spread. Of course, there was also cursing involved.

Just to be clear, I like Congresswoman Crockett’s passion and energy!
