Recent treaties guaranteed a free Ukraine would remain free of NATO and remain a ‘buffer state’ between Western Europe and Russia. All this was thrown out as the west and CIA interfered with elections to turn these buffer regions against Russia.
Cutting to the point: Russia will never allow NATO to sit in Ukraine on its borders, with missiles and nukes and tanks. Not going to happen.
It is a territorial imperative that Russia will not relent on that issue.
