Amen Andy! The other phenomenon that has come onto the scene are the people using counseling and psychology in a manner that manipulates and affirms the mental illness. That should be a crime, it is a terrible abuse of power in a role that is supposed to help people.
Also, schools (and probably other organizations) have allowed or created an environment that is toxic, abusive, and learning is not taking place so it adds to low moral, low self esteem, and low self worth which compounds that fact that it is already hard to be a kid.
There are so many positive things to be done to help people overcome this great trial. Let’s keep writing and speaking about it, and let’s also figure out a way to provide all these things people need. We can help them and we must!
Hello Ms. Wagh, thanks for the nice reply. I use to work for the US Government and appoligize for them putting you thru thier immigration maze but you have made it. My wife is also a new immigrant to the US and experienced different problems and mostly local. She finally made it as well. Immigrants have alot of difficulties epsecially with discrimination that is still blantant in-your-face here in diversity-wonder-land of Santa Barbara, California. There is increasing evidence that vaccines may be responsible for the increase in mental illness. The inflammatory response to vaccination may be responsible for encephalitis and minimal brain damage linked to violent behavior, low IQ, sexual identity issues and many more. The midwestern doctor has written convincingly on this subject. https://www.midwesterndoctor.com/p/how-much-damage-have-vaccines-done.
Statistics tell us over half the population of the United States are taking some kind of mood stabilizer drug. I ask clients about it, and they tell me they would be crazy if they did not take the magic potion they feel addicted to and dependent on. My great concern is that the vast majority of the drugs in use here come from China, our sworn enemy, and that pipeline could be abruptly cut off if international relations between the two countries worsen. These drugs are ones that must be slowly withdrawn from, abrupt cessation can have severe consequences. We'd be looking at a true zombie apocalypse and a way to conquer our nation without a single bomb or bullet.
The combination is both prescription drugs and non-prescription mood alterers, including alcohol and marijuana.
Lines of young people were observed in the parking lot behind Goleta's newest pot shop, located now in the long vacant property at the corner of Calle Real and Fairview. An abandoned building found a successful new market appeal. Right next to the old Super 8 motel, now converted to become a half-way house shelter.
Breathing new life into derelict downtown commercial districts: vagrancy shelters and recreational drug stores. Houston, we do have a problem. I admit I liked it better when there as a church found on every corner ministering to spiritual pain, instead of trafficking in chemical cover-ups.
The typical USA fix-all, take a pill per Big Pharma $$$$. Hmmm, could these people be demon possessed? Now let's not get religion into any conversation.
PS. I thought this problem would be much higher percentage, kinda same as number of registered dems. Sorry I could not help myself.
Recently reported in the pages of Anthropology Today was the discovery of a parallel evolutionary lineage to Homo Erectus which has been called Homo Flacidus. Homo Flacidus was previously unknown due to being represented by a recesive gene which has only recently been expressed. This new phenotype has been dubbed Google Man. Google man lives under the illusion that his beliefs can be substantiated by an internet link. Unaware that any viewpoint can be supported by an internet link, Google Man can be described as blustery, inflated yet lacking in substance. Also described as all hat and no cattle.
When referring to the Democrat party I capitalize. When referring to a democratic process I use lower case. Consider the examples embedded in the following instruction.
There is no such thing as a Democratic party. It is a bastardization intended to give the illusion that the party is democratic with the accompanying notion that democracy is inherently good, which it is not. It is true that the Democrat party stands for democracy when the Democrat party is in the majority.
This is just how I do it. After failing English 101 I became a puppeteer

Drugs mask these symptoms, but certainly do not cure the the cause. It has long been a common profile in many school shootings: young males, sexually confused, and history of psychotrophic medications and/or therapy. Wide net for sure, but at least it does not include the vast majority lawful gun owners who continually are subject to the far more sweeping demand for "universal gun control".
Back in the 1990's, California Lawyer magazine ran an in-depth article about the growing connection observed between the highly popularized use of Prozac and acts of mass violence. The article also revealed the strict confidentiality requirements imposed by the drug companies when cases against them were litigated and settled.
This psychotropic drug connection to acts of mass violence has been suspected, litigated and apparently aggressively covered up for decades. And buried successfully for just as long. Time to shine a light on it again.
Well ... I come from a family of psychotics. And we've always been crazy.
The only way to deal with it ... stop the enabling. ... Don't feed the crazy. Don't pay for the crazy. When it gets violent - lock 'em up. Drugs - both legal and illegal - just feed the crazy. Legal drugs often have little effect ... once the nut job develops tolerance (btw - this can be very tragic when you see someone you've known as a nut for years ... function like normal for a few weeks, and then goes bonkers again) ... When these drugs are withdrawn, reactions can be violent and unpredictable. Go cold turkey and the crazy returns with a vengeance. Illegal drugs are even more dangerous, or they used to be when tested the legal ones. Illegal drugs also give lots of opportunities for crazies to poison other crazies with even more dangerous drugs.
To be clear ... most loonies are not violent. Most violent people are not crazy. Childhood trauma has little impact on crime or violent behavior. But that said, illegal drugs strongly correlate with violence and the development of non-congenital insanity. It would be interesting to see the real data, and do some real research ... but keep wishing ...
... most of the research on this topic is funded for political reasons and/or for agenda reasons. This makes any in-depth analysis suspect from the get-go.
it’s time to return to medicines that are readily found in nature, including shamanic drugs for mental illnesses…the drugs the feed us do not cure, but instead masked illness & redirect the mind…
“$200 million per year” ! That’s what Santa Barbara spends each year on homelessness.
Has homelessness gone down significantly in the last 10-20 years? Nope it’s up overall.
$200 million for zero progress. Some would argue it’s gotten worse, just walk down the street and around shopping centers, parks, rail road tracks, etc…
You better start asking where that money is going, whose pocket it’s going into. Because it’s not making a significant impact on homeless Santa Barbarians.
Years ago when I was running for City Council I proposed that we use government land and build shelters using our local company Shelter Box. $1,000 for 144 square feet of shelter.
We create shelter areas for mentally ill, drug addicts, families, for Santa Barbara residents.
At these locations we provide food, onsite medical, laundry, showers, church.
This means those with medical needs will receive consistent medical help.
But the “party of the people” believe in free range organic homeless.
They tell you how dare you try to help and provide an obtainable way to get them off the violent streets where the average age of death is 56.
They tell you to let them live their natural lives foraging for food in trash cans, defacating themselves on the sidewalk, living in dirt and filth. Let them be the Democrats say. The compassion is overwhelming! A Democrat rather ignore the humanitarian crisis, provide some money here and there at the off-ramps rather than ask why $200 million per year cannot provide a place off the streets.
Our government believes in buying multi million dollar properties in the heart of downtown to house less than 20 here or there over several years.
Wow, the “party of the people” don’t want to actually help the people.
$200 million here in SB. $24 Billion from the state.
Right on Brian - excellent, practical suggestions. We need more 'tough love' and less catering to the left wing whackos' who spend their time reveling in their rightneousness rather than taking the bull by the horns.

I read this article by Mr. Caldwell which should be "Does Living in Santa Barbara and
dealing with the local so-called-leaders drive You Nuts"
I suggest a four-part-mental health program for this crazy nut place.
1. Run and move far far away (Like Forest Gump) or
2. Take long and refreshing walks along the beach with your dog
3. If you do not have a dog get one because he will always be your best friend
4. Never ... Ever ..... attend local agency meetings it is bad for your mental health

For you that do not know about the Forest Gump Movie I provide the clip below>
The Town Bullies start throwing rocks at Forest and Jenny says to Forest.....
Run Forest Run! .......... Sound familiar about SB Bullies that run this place
and beating up on the handicap, homeless and mentally ill........... and anyone
that gets in thier way ....................... think about it.

The best way to reduce the mentally ill homeless is to return to the policy that was abandoned about 60 years ago -- involuntary commitment.
Amen

Accepting personal responsibility in this country?
You’re kidding me right?
This has been one of the Biggest problems in this country for a loooong time.
It starts at the top.
Have a nice day
Drugs don’t cure most of what is called mental illness
In some cases drugs exacerbate the problems
THC comes to mind, as well as hormones given to try and convert males to females or vice versa
Now the mental health gurus are about to launch psychedelics on the mental health community
What could possibly go wrong ?
God only tolerated humans run amok for so long.
A tormented soul acts out. Relief from such torment comes only from peace and relationship with our creator, Jesus.

Democrat policy can only be described as insane by that half of the population that is not Democrat.
Jeff, seems like both sides like big pharma and are at the feeding bowl. GOP got 54% of pharma money in 2020 and the Dems 'only' got 46% of the pie. https://www.statnews.com/feature/prescription-politics/prescription-politics/

I suggest that a good summary on this matter is an article I’m listing below

The answer I would suggest takes a few minutes to read, but it is a great summary
