Excellent! It is though you took the very words out of my mouth. Yes. Yes. And yes! As an AMS Certified Meteorologist I couldn't agree with you more. I work closely with the public and contractors in the County and the fear is real. It's a sad by-product of the incessant exhortation of lies and fear porn expressed by the Climate Change/Net Zero zealots that have so effectively permeated our institutions and media. The general feeling from many in the public is that biblical flooding is imminent. It's sad...and frustrating. Your words ring so true..."Accept life as it happens. Use it to your advantage. Go with the flow." Weather happens. Stay informed and be prepared. For an informative source on all things El Niño (and updated forecasts) I suggest perusing the Scripps Institute website...https://scripps.ucsd.edu/news/how-does-el-nino-impact-weather? And yes, more importantly, vote for common sense this November!

Net-Zero really means zero tolerance for anything other than their own specious agendas.

How did the Net-Zero bike path takeover of our city turn out, when in fact it allowed the current take-over by e-bikes. Net Zero bike plan is now causing far more mayhem and carnage to the e-bike riders themselves, as well as pedestrians and autos they now dangerously impact.

If only we could foresee the law of unintended consequences before handing over large amounts of city property and tax dollars to the noisy Net Zero Tolerance crowds, or at least assign all future liabilities having met their demands on to their laps, instead of ours.

JB my man. So good to have a certified weather dude to comment. I worked in the broadcast news business for most of my career and had many talented meteorological/ weather folks on the newscast. I would watch them at their computers doing their thing and discuss it with them. So my "expertise" is directly from their good work, as you outline so well. I really appreciate your contribution here. Again, as the Boy Scouts used to tell us, "Always be prepared." Then there's nothing to fear. John

Nice article. Thank you. Now “el niño” now really means something to me.

This is so intellectually dishonest. It's called climate change. Not weather change. It's about overall patterns and average temperatures. Not a single data point from almost a century ago. 98% of scientists in the field. 98 percent of the smartest individuals on the topic of climate, all agree, that human activity has led to a rapid increase in atmospheric green house gases and that increase has consequences. Your anecdotal accounting of cherry picked data points doesn't rise to the same level of evidence as peer reviewed paper after paper. Just look at Venus. Why is it the hottest planet in our solar system yet not the closest? Because of its dense atmosphere. Since the industrial revolution, we've put 20,000 years worth of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in just a couple hundred years. I'm honestly baffled at how obvious the Dunn and Kruger effect can be demonstrated, and yet still no self awareness is achieved. Science denial will kill us all.

AS: Science™ recently tried to kill us with the "covid" shot. Excuse any skepticism about "science", which by the way is a verb; not a noun.

Climate change (yawn)? Is this the same “science” that postulated that COVID is naturally occurring? Or how about men having babies, that science?

How about responsibly managing our forests so as to avert the millions of metric tons of carbon burned into our atmosphere?

Yes, our elected official, Greg Hart is getting kudos from the lunatic environmental left for shutting down drilling and depending on foreign actors. So now we depend on BESS backup and the uncontrolled fires which they cause and their toxic clouds which follow?

Progress, right?

Nice recollection of the Farley skit. Dude was hysterical. So are the climate nuts! Common sense tells us that the weather has always done its thing and will continue to do so long after we’re gone from this planet. Teachers and the dems (but I repeat myself) tell their mind numbed robots ( constituents and students) to hate mankind and themselves in order to frighten and anger them. Angry and scared people are much easier to manipulate and control. Wake up people!!!

C. J. Vogelsang's avatar

Finally some common sense perspective on weather. Blaming weather on humans goes against reality. Adapt to changes is practical and efficient. Trying to changed behavior in hopes that infinitesimal actions will significantly change weather is illogical.

Great job as always, John Summer! I love how you give a sensible outlook on the fear mongering press with a dash of humor, and an ending in prayer ~ God bless you.

Burton H Voorhees's avatar

But human forced climate change is happening. Denial does not change that. You're right, however, in that you can't blame any particular weather event on human activity. An analogy I like is from baseball. Barry Bond hit a lot of home runs. He also used steroids. We can't say that any particular home run that he hit was due to steroids, but we can say that the total number hit was increased by his steroid use. But go ahead and deny the science, and don't worry about the next 100 years.

There has been weather modification that has been used against us as weapons in the past administrations.

Possibly Leading to fires in the Palisades and Paradise California and many other fires. As each time there is a fire and an emergency declared the state gets money from the Feds.

Also Paradise California was on the High Speed rail train route.

Back to the hype which creates news and sells it.

In other words it's propaganda whether to keep people in fear and control them or to be able to sell items.

Newsom already declared an emergency before El Nino has arrived.

More of a slush fund for Newsom to use and steal.

This may be right, who cares? we are old and my life will be just fine. And then there is the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Not mentioned by our knowledgeable author.

It took thousands of years to rise from ice age lows to 280 ppm naturally.

• Recent Milestones: Readings surpassed 400 ppm for the first time in modern history in 2013, climbing past 422 ppm by 2024, and reaching over 426–427 ppm recently. I do not see where a CO2 increase on this scale comes from except from us humans. Enlighten me of other sources?

It is beyond my pay grade, but it just might have something to do with the various weather events, glacier melts etc in the world today. I think we should behave differently.

This article is devoid of facts and high on green washing, very poor and blinkered in its outlook.

Sad we as a people have come to this, but then the current administration's currency is graft, lies and deceit. Why not follow the leader?

Waiting in the wings to also be a "scary weather threat" are atmospheric rivers which have long history in this area as well. Was it a historic atmospheric river that tumbled the huge boulders down to our own Rocky Nook Park and Pedregosa Street?

Explore the known and unknown about atmospheric rivers- which indeed are devastating but well beyond control, prediction or easy blame on any post-industrial climate change since they have been occurring for eons: The Atmospheric Rivers Book: https://cw3e.ucsd.edu/atmospheric-rivers-book/

Great advice! I get so annoyed by negativity. We need to have faith in God and respect life.

Life is a gift .. it may be hard , but Life is good! Every difficult road has opportunity for us to grow into less selfish human beings. Pray about everything and always give thanks.

The doomsday cult or as I call them, "Generation Freak Out!", has one unifying goal in mind no matter what drivel pours out of their mouths: "The End is Nigh, Be Afraid!"

It doesn't matter if it's global warming, democracy, war, oligarchs, immigration, Orange Man Bad, an election, abortion, a virus, El Niño, Ai data centers, guns, petroleum...etc...the song remains the same: Be afraid, be very afraid! Sacrifices must be made! Unless of course you vote blue and virtue signal; those are their "chosen people".

Just like the philosophy of "We only pursue that which retreats"; The cult only controls that which lives in a constant state of fear.

Once you see it, it can not be unseen. Once you challenge the cult, the cult is powerless. The emperor is naked in front of you, an irrelevant sniveling nuisance child to be ignored.

Ignore the doomsday cult. Lose the fear. Do what we have always done: think prepare adapt

And if possible, try to avoid getting into a land war in Asia (or Eastern Europe, or the Middle East)

The late great Rob Reiner was a hard core lefty and a pain in the ass intellectually, but he was right about that one...I'll give him that! RIP, Rob 😊

The lurid tabloid threats that come out of the local Environmental Defense Center crowd are right up there with worst of them.

Witness just Assemblyman Gregg Hart and Rep Salud Carbajal most recent comments supporting their own legislative demands that strangle any local economic development in the entire Central Coast. Noozhawk irresponsibly amplifies these messages through their own "environmental" columnists.

The Zero Tolerance favorite bullying target right now is the re-opening the Sage Pipeline, along with demanding a permanent moratorium against any future off shore drilling forever. Listen to them justify that the two swimming pool-sized volume of leaked oil that actually reached the ocean from the Gaviota pipeline leak was a total Zombie Apocalypse event that can destroy all life on the South Coast as we know it.

Eric Gordon's avatar

Yep! It's one of many..For the sin of drilling for, refining, and using petroleum; we are told to be afraid....

Instead of the obvious that we can all see around us every day, that petroleum (oil & gas) is the greatest gift that God has ever bestowed upon the human race (seriously, it's right up there with sex!), we are to feel guilty for using it. We are to feel personally responsible each and every one of us whenever there is a spill or an accident.

Same with nuclear...🙄

"Be afraid! Be very afraid! Ban it! Cancel the heretics! Cast out the non-believers! Sinners!! Sacrifice must be made or we will all perish!!"

Notice the theme? The end is always nigh!😱

To those that try the guilt thing on me, please understand that I am Jewish; you are a rank amateur. If you want me to feel guilty about something you really need to consult a professional, like my mother. 😳😆

Otherwise; take a hike! You annoy me. 😒😆
