You know you’re in trouble when politicians are so confident and arrogant that they don’t even have to debate opponents during the election cycle! Think of it, no discussion, no accountability, no having to defend their policies…no problem! That is typically the modus operandi of politics in third world countries!

Why is this? Are conservative values and candidates so inconsequential that NO discussion is ever necessary?

This is all in line with the local Democratic Party machine. Again, much of this I have realized by reading SB Current and speaking with other “closet” conservatives. Yes, the local Dem machine is in lock step with public education, public sector unions, public safety, environmental groups, LGBTQ activist groups, DEI activists, UCSB Student outreach and more. Surprised? I’m not. With backing like this and the political clout that comes with it, how can they ever lose ANY election?

And to think it is Republicans that are the ones being accused of threatening democracy!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, typically it is liberals which accuse the opposition of EXACTLY what they themselves are engaging in.

LT- We know we are in trouble as taxpayers when 5 of 7 SBCC Trustees are so ‘confident & arrogant’ they hire consultants and put out to bid a $80-$90M PE Building when in deficit spending BEFORE voters pass or DEFEAT Measure P2024. NOPE!

Make note P2024 uses same ballot measure language as V2008 except it EXTENDS taxpayer debt to 2060-61. It fails to mention it also will INCREASE taxpayer debt. In 2008, SBCC was in good financial shape with reserves so its V-bonds were sold at a highly favorable interest rate with savings passed on to taxpayers. Now SBCC is in ‘fiscal crisis’ unable to qualify for a bank loan. Therefore, if voters approve P, its bonds will not be attractive to investor and be sold at a higher rate with this higher cost passed on to property owners.

Will 100,000 eligible District voters prove themselves ignorant or stupid; or prove ourselves unwilling to waste more money on failing SBCC. Vote NO!!!

Thomas, I didn't watch the debate but have seen snippets. I, personally, am not going to change my vote on one debate that the MSM are touting to be a game changer. One has to admit that Trump was in a lion's den, not because of Ms. Harris' brilliance but because there is little doubt that he was outgunned by the media that put the debate together. But if it makes you feel good that your candidate became the darling of the election overnight, enjoy the moment. I guess we will see in November if it really made a difference.

Thank you Bonnie for the informative article. Once again, I learned of issues I would have not known about if not for SB Current! Admittedly, I’ve learned more about SBCC in the last 30 days, than I have in the last 30 years! What I’ve learned is not good. Seems our public institution is rife with mismanagement, possible fraud, misappropriation of public funds and a DEI nightmare. Again, I ask the question; where is our SB Grand Jury and District Attorney in probing these and other issues? Enormous credit needs to go to those who are painstakingly asking the difficult questions and exposing corruption and misuse of public trust.

NO on Measure P! Enough is enough, we need accountability now!

Santa Barbara has only a CIVIL Grand Jury. If after a thorough case review, jurors decide it’s a criminal matter, the case is sent to the D.A. Office. If case is K-14 school related, the referral is DOA: Dead on Arrival. The depth of the relationship between DA Office and K-14 public schools is conflicted (to say the least). There’s no possibility for a DA investigation or charges of a Grand Jury referred K-14 case in Santa Barbara County. Que sera. Locals are complicit living well in the ‘Paradise Bubble’. Thank you, Bonnie. There is a real FU attitude of our local government where we, the taxpayers, are concerned. Their behavior has gone from merely disgustingly corrupt to psychotically abusive.

You know way more than I do about the inner workings of our local government. So I'm probably wrong in saying I don't think it's just that they feel they can't be voted out. I think they don't want to debate because things might come out that would land them in jail. Or put out of power by the current leaders of their own party.

The people who are running our country are engaged in a behind the scenes battle for power among themselves. And what kinds of threats are they making towards the likes of Salud and Monique?

At any rate, it looks like they're determined to get WWIII going before the election anyway. All the people here who hate Putin and think he's the dangerous aggressor should ask themselves why, if he's so dangerous, we're putting him in a position where the only course of action he'll have will be to attack us back.

Because that's when our taxes will be raised yet once again. Our local government will demand bomb shelters. Not for us, of course. For them. But maybe those offshore wind farms they love will defend us all.

It happened with covid relief money, it regularly happens with Medicare and now it is happening with student loan money. It is ironic that SBCC has remaining covid cash to help relieve a self inflicted financial wound. The covid salve being designed to heal another self inflicted wound. To the Democrat party, money heals all and there is believed to be an unlimited supply that can be either printed or confiscated from the useful productivity of the citizen. It seems that we are riding the carousel of financial ruin where government mismanagement and fraud is addressed with more government miasmanagement and fraud. The obvious solution is to defund the government but neither party has shown any willingness to reduce the size of government. At least the Republicans talk about it during campaign season while the Democrats talk about more government. In the end we get ever bigger government. I just want go away and hide until I die.

Cole on Prop P

Just my idea to cut the Gordian knot.. get right to the heart of the matter. Hire an attorney, like Johnathan McGee and file a case against SBCC trustees and against Fund for SBCC.. do it in a week-asap

Hire attorney to research and file a lawsuit in state court alleging that:

1) SBCC should not be able to appropriate, ask for, grift or otherwise apply for any new bond funds because,

1.2) SBCC trustees have failed and are continuing to fail in their legally stated mission to the community, to provide education for local tax paying students. And instead is catering to foreign students, foreign nationals, illegal aliens, causing severe housing shortages for local residents and local students, all for the financial gain of the college admins, and to the detriment of the community that funds this institution for local students.

2) SBCC is in violation of bond law by using taxpayer funds to create a bond and fund the campaign for that bond, a clear conflict of CA bond doctrine, CA education codes and law and administrative law and contract law..and that using a college affiliated 501C3 (Foundation for SBCC) to fund and advertise a bond initiative is illegal, unethical and in violation of non profit rules including IRS rules.

3) The college has created a hostile and toxic environment against any and all staff and admin personnel and students, who do not rubber stamp and agree with the majority narrative, that of increasing fees, forcing bond issues onto the ballot, forced gender studies, anti white studies, anti religious studies and other political indoctrination of students.

4) Ask the court to place on hold any bond election results, any funding, any tax collections for this illegally propositioned bond, due to the aforementioned violations, ethical lapses, financial misappropriations by SBCC Trustees. And have judge investigate and pull their 501 status through the IRS.

There I just saved us $8,000, and put measure P on indefinite hold.

Plus, last time I checked longevity awards get a stipend, too. To my knowledge Peter MacDougall never got this recognition after 31 years building SBCC into a nationally recognized and awarded community college. Any new funding is premature unless, and until, there records are cleaned up as to do otherwise would be to reward , and encourage, incompetence.
