A WIKI Primer on the Seven Deadly Sins: In the standard list, the seven deadly sins ....... are pride, envy, wrath, gluttony, lust, sloth, and greed.

Not to be confused with the Democrat party platform in California.

Thank you for this concise history. The 1960's were far more pivotal than just The Age of Aquarius, sex, drugs and rock and roll. Or even the birth of government employee unions. Those years did gut the moral fiber of our nation. But we must accept there was need for changes, that drove us into untested social experiments at that time too.

The upside is since so much changed in one decade; everything can change just as much in this decade. That brave new 1960's world of shattered social morés, remains fractured and tattered presenting need to changes today too.

1960's psychologist Rollo May foresaw this era trading passion for lust, which would be the generation's downfall. Worth the re-read to learn how he defined both terms. Passion runs deep with commitment and consequences. Lust is shallow, immediate and reckless.

Damn, Andy...I think I have to say that took courage to say it! Does that make us misogynists? I was raised Catholic and kind of hardwired to think divorce was not really an option. We're coming up to 50 years being married...but your article was spot on.

A not so nice piece, Andy. But hard truths must be spoken. Laid out in enumerated this way is very enlightening. Hopefully the right people will see it and heed its message.

I read this Family Article titled "How the American Family Met Its Demise"

By Andy Caldwell and probably the most insightful post to date at SB Current.

I quote from same "America’s transition from a nation of faith-seeking, family-oriented pilgrims to self-seeking, nihilistic pirate ... AND No-fault divorce laws made divorce easy and quick, and courts favored mothers for primary custody" THIS IS JUST THE TIP OF THE DIVORCE TITANIC

Triple BANG. Caldwell throws down the hammer; but who came up with the ruin of families and No-Fault Divorce? Yes, hard to believe it was Ronald Regan and his No-Fault Divorce Act>

https://ajud.assembly.ca.gov/sites/ajud.assembly.ca.gov/files/reports/1197%20divorcereform97.pdf

"Three years after Governor Brown urged reforming California’s fault-based divorce law,

Governor Ronald Reagan signed the Family Law Act of 1969 into law, making California

the first no-fault divorce state in the nation."

You may wonder why there are so many School Shooters, lawlessness in Society, local government officials and Politicians committing fraud? Look no further than the non-existent American Family.

There is truth in the peice and it is too simple. Ultimately it reads as an empty, vapid and simplistic explaination of the decline of society. Our leaders have been very weak. We chose them, so it is on us, really. Our present incumbent "president" exhibits at least four of the seven deadly sins. It is no wonder we are in decline./

Andy- Why did you choose not to list the most basic reason for the decline in family formation? Economics! Responsible, educated females are now financially literate. We are informed, aware, and partners in family formation. Couples now plan because we can thanks to medical advancements.

The cost to be alive, the half million dollar cost to raise a child; the extremely high housing costs; the failed CA public education system that results in the additional fear of a tuition burden for private K-12 schooling; economic insecurity, lack of high paying jobs, wage stagnation are all considerations.

Each 10% rise in home values links to ~1.5% drop in fertility. Housing ranks as the #1 reason for out-migration from CA, hitting young couples the hardest.

Before creating life we want the fiscal ability and security to raise a child which requires providing shelter, food, and active parental participation. Many oppose the existing nanny state resulting in the creation of breeders instead of independent, self-sustaining family units.

With AI increasingly replacing white collar middle class jobs, economic insecurity may increase adversely impacting family creation. Who knows. There’s also the reality of over-population. How many humans are needed on Earth?
