it was My Honor to serve the Greatest Nation in the History of The World, and Great Patriots like our neighbors here that continue to fight for the USA!

The United States of America will only survive if we unite as Americans and root out the destructive evil forces that want to destroy our way of life…Fight 4 Trump!

Both my Father and I are both Army veterans. Dad served in WWII, and was at Saipan when it was taken. He was almost killed when a Zero buzzed his foxhole and dropped ordinance next to him causing permanent hearing loss.

As for me, I was “ in the rear with the gear.” I lucked out, being assigned to the “Country Club of the Army,” Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft. Sam Houston, Tx,” which btw, was in my hometown of San Antonio.

I had it made, the only “action “ I saw was fighting off the WAC’s, during some INTENSE times spent at the WAC Shack!

But seriously, I did have an important job working as a Corpsman in the Surgical ICU taking care of post op open heart and trauma patients. I met some unbelievably talented and dedicated professionals, surgeons, nurses, and will always cherish my service which helped me later in life.

I highly recommend the military for young people, to gain experience and learn discipline and responsibility.

As for some of the crass statements made here about making war and taking cheap shots at the military, I say get a clue, you have NO idea what you’re talking about! In fact, if not for the military, you would not have the freedom to make such stupid comments!

Hopefully our new Commander in Chief will focus on the primary job of the military, which is to fight and win wars, NOT serve as some kind of FUBAR social experiment!

Thank you for your service.

Most people have forgotten about the horrors of war and we need to have more veterans speak out against it. The good friends, fathers, brothers and other loved ones that were taken away from us in their prime need to be a good reminder for younger generations and adults alike.

I am anti-war and also grateful to our veterans and to the Americans currently active in our military. You don't get peace without a good defense. The people who've been in power - Democrats and Republicans - have it ass-backwards. They love forever-wars but have done everything they can to demoralize and weaken the men and women who actually risk their lives and fight. That's why I voted for Trump. He respects the men and women who serve and will insist they have the best leadership . Our American flag is up and proud.

- EU will buy U.S. gas not Russian gas

- Putin will sell oil in U.S. dollars

- Zelenskyy phones Trump & Elon

- NYC Mayor ends vouchers for illegals

- Mexico to stop migrants at U.S. border

- China wants to work peacefully with us

By a miracle, my grandfather was pulled out from a pile of dead soldiers on train headed to a graveyard in Europe during WWI when someone heard him moan.

My father tried to enlist early (17 years old), but his father said, "No, there will be plenty of war for you when you turn 18". Sure enough, WWII waited for him. He shipped out to the China/Burma/India theater of war on the Lendo/Burma Roads.

I pray that President Trump takes all the money that the Dems and Repukes squander on the illegals, bums, corrupt big pharma, European governments etc and gives to our Vets that are homeless, poor, injured, and in hospitals. Make those true heroes Great Again!!!

"I am a veteran." And so was the young USMC veteran standing ahead of me in line at Wendy's this morning. Not so the poser who got in line behind us wearing oversized USMC fatigues. I greeted him with a "Semper FI!" and quickly learned that I knew more about the Marines than he did, and I'm retired Army. The real Marine called him out and he scurried away, perhaps to try his luck at another establishment honoring REAL veterans with a gesture of their appreciation for our service. My wife scolded us both for allowing him to leave Wendy's while still wearing that USMC uniform.

S.2 You misrepresent the current US military mission around the world. Where did you pick up his specific, and one-dimensional bias?

Even commercial shipping that you depend on every day offers a big sigh of relief knowing US forces are out in partnership with other world navies in the remote high seas protecting shipping lanes from piracy. Is that what you call only a "corporate sell out"?

Japan remains happy to still be under a US defense industry umbrella knowing today they the last defense perimeter against a growing group of hostile neighbors. And your cherished European "socialism" would flounder in two seconds without the US maintaining its deterrence presence on their soils.

Should we be shouldering those costs is a legitimate question. But look also at what happens if/when we do not.

US global military presence has many faces; not just one as you cartoonishly promote. Who else do you want operating this much soft-diplomacy and hard geo-political influence? We tried doing with out even very recently, after Obama's apology tour. We tried using surrogates after Biden green-lighted the Russian protection of their Ukraine heritage territories. We also failed when we tried to exercised too much influence (Vietnam). It remains a subtle art form today, finding the right spot somewhere in between.

Dig a little deeper into what it takes to protect global security before you demand we yank one stool leg in this subtle balance.

You are however correct to identify we have been overlooking the many domestic enemies within too, including open borders, this bloated and partisan government workforce, sustained only ever increasing public debt.

But tease out future responses to this ongoing challenge with a scalpel, one a one size fits all brick bat.

Travel more widely and listen more deeply. Go deeper than the surface questions. When pushed to defend themselves on their own, they do still admit they rely on the US coming to their defense. I was just there and also in Okinawa only few weeks ago.

Yes, they don't like the reminder of a foreign power remaining on their soil. Who would? But when you ask them deeper questions about filling that vacuum if/when the US leaves, you get very different answers.

Spent fourteen years at Raytheon. Your "facts" are all wrong. Not even worth addressing your illogical comments. A strong military protects the country from bullies like N. Korea. You want them to send a missile with a nuclear warhead into Los Angeles; they could do that. But they don't, do you know why?

When moving from MA to FL when I was 12, the "Confederate" kids (usually the physically short bully types, kind of like the N. Koreans, huh?) would pretend to want to pick a fight with me. I was considered tall in MA and had a similar problem with short kids. One day in MA I came home with a torn shirt. I told my dad a kid tore my shirt. My dad was in the garage where he did his radio/TV repair work. After I told my dad of my demise of a torn shirt ... he said nothing. My personal interpretation of my dad's silence was to simply beat the shit out of "shorty" the next time he tried anything <g>. Are you sort of understanding why we have a military s. 2? Or do you really need more explaining to reorient your brain cells, aka "thinking process"?

S.2: Take another look at the back of your IRS 1040 booklet - learn where your tax dollars are really going because there has been a major new realignment thanks to recent Democrat partisan politics.

Interest on the growing US debt now outstrips military defense spending, which was always the prior one size fits all liberal boogyman.

What is your ROI from all that debt now passed on to the younger generations to pay off?

Expand full comment
J. Livingston's avatar

S.2: Still wondering where you get your canned talking points. The VA Administration had a dedicated "Homeless Vet" program. Your tax dollars are funding it. Ask them why it is not working in your own world view? Or else we need to stop funding this program too.

S.2: Military Industrial Complex became purely a money-laundering operation for partisan gain. Either GOP gain (Iraq) or currently and in the past for Democrat gain.

Back to basics - arms production when necessary for defense and deterrence. See Reagan era. But not misused to disguise buying partisan votes with our own tax dollars, sprinkled generously on political favorites.

You are good to keep looking into the real payoffs for even "foreign aid" as part of this partisan wealth redistribution deflection. Might want to start by reading "Why Nations Behave" to explore the journey to where we are today.
