Identity Politics is the basis of unfathomable division, confusion, and polarization in the USA today. The central propagators of this massive subterranean political movement are our state and local public schools, especially here in Santa Barbara. Most people are unaware of the conditioning and brainwashing that takes place in modern education that radicalizes our children into political activism revolving around ethnicity, sexuality, and gender.
When I was in the California Teaching Credential program in 1995, the agenda was called Multiculturalism, and its central aim was “to destroy white hegemony.” This movement proliferated into a full-scale rebellion against the American Founders and all the good for which they stood. Now through many different ideologies and programs, the aim is to inculcate identity politics as the impetus to restructure society in the image of secular humanist globalism, which requires the dismantling of the great American Experiment.
A cursory look at the county and state websites will appear to be aboveboard, but lurking beneath the surface are the means by which our schools turn children against family and country. One has to become an expert forensic investigator to uncover the smoking gun. The intellectual sources of chaos are hidden in credential programs, LCAP goals, teacher professional development, and health education programs. Its invisibility cloak is “social justice.” The movement infiltrates our collective soul by the new categorical imperative to elevate emotions above reason and common sense.
Marxist Maxims in Control
Although our public schools have been prone to become indoctrination camps since the advent of John Dewey’s laboratory schools in the early 20th century, it seems generally unknown that the Marxist educator Paulo Freire has been a main source of propagandistic pedagogy in most teacher credential programs in the U.S. since 1995.
Freire reduces all learning to the political. Literacy becomes political literacy, and all other subjects adhere to political activism. The political narrative that drives the entire endeavor is Marxist. The new American method requires brainwashing techniques to make little Americans see America as a racist and oppressive colonizer. The major means of indoctrinating our children is through endeavors like SEL, DEI, and CRT. It all comes from Marx through the Frankfurt School, then Freire, and then directly into our schools. It is imbued in every teacher who obtains a California teaching credential, who in turn passes the ideologies on to the students.
Under the moniker “Social and Emotional Learning,” or SEL, our schools have become indoctrination camps flowing from the Marxist mindset known as the material dialectic. The womb of this instructional model is the oppressor/oppressed dichotomy. The aim is to make all students feel alienated by some aspect of otherness caught in the net of intersectionality intended to unify the “others” against the oppressor class. This movement is in full institutional swing at nearly every school here in Santa Barbara.
“If we continue to allow this movement to take root in our souls through our schools, we will be destroyed from within and without” – Steven Jonathan Rummelsburg
Accidental Identity versus True Identity
The wedge being used to turn students against their families and country is the notion of “identity.” It is a very complicated topic, but a simple explanation is that the schools convince our children that they “are” something they are not. It is the world’s biggest bait-and-switch scheme, and it has wreaked havoc upon society.
The trick is that the teachers convince students that “identity” means something accidental instead of something substantial. In reality, the word “identity” means the same, or sameness to something substantial. For example, all human beings share a nature made intelligible by the powers of the human soul manifest in the human body. Substantially, every human person is the same; meaning we all truly share an identity. Considerations of ethnicity, sexuality, gender, culture, and citizenship are not substantial forms, but accidental forms and no real identity with such accidents is possible. The big lie is to come to believe that something accidental is substantial and therefore an identity. This is simply outside the boundary of reality, even if it is commonly believed. Accidental forms can be important considerations, but not nearly as important as true identity.
There is a hierarchy of values rooted in the natural law that says the highest consideration for identity is our shared human nature, our true and most valuable identity. The second highest value of secondary identity is the family, the building block of civilization. Third is our country of residence. Identity politics, SEL, DEI, CRT, and our public schools attack this true hierarchy of identity values and diametrically inverts it as it places these three highest things as the three lowest.
This inversion is destroying our country.
Putting Things Back in Order
Some of the rotten fruit of the identity politics agenda in our schools is seen in the pro-Palestinian protests all over the country, starting with the Ivy league Universities and flowing through regular universities like my alma mater, our very own UCSB. We must not miss the connection between indoctrination beginning in pre-school that leads to the radical activism we see in universities all over the country.
Ultimately the identity politics movement is designed to make us hate our true identity as human beings made in the image and likeness of God, to hate our families because they are propagandized as anchors to our “true” identity, and to hate our country because it oppresses us.
Ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and culture, matter, but they matter far less than human nature, family, and citizenship.
We are not Palestine.
We are not Israel.
We are not Ukraine.
We are not Russia.
We are not Charlie Hebdo.
We are not George Floyd.
We are human beings who share a nature, who owe gratitude to our parents for the gift of life and to the United States of America for a glorious citizenship that is slipping through our fingers. If we continue to allow this movement to take root in our souls through our schools, we will be destroyed from within and without.
I am American and so are you.
It’s time to put things back into their proper order.
1995? You are a whipper snapper.
In the Credential Program at UCSB it was 1971 (just back from the army) and what you are talking about was already starting to creep into the program. It would take too long to give a detailed report here, but to say the least it was disturbing to say the least. I heard and was taught the start of Marxist prejudice politics.
In one class I made the mistake of raising my hand and objecting to the concept that equal application of law was a white man's politics and revolutionary groups like the then Revolutionary SDS were what the nation should be following. Needless to say my grade went from an "A" to a "C"......
What does SDS stand for? Students for a Democratic Society. We had a top Democrat Supervisor in SB County who was outed as a founding member in another State and preached revolution against the nation.
Sorry you had to go through it.
This is exactly what the Communists throughout the world have done to destroy and replace both culture and government in nation after nation. The present teachers and misled students have no idea how twisted things have become.
Thanks for the article.
Thank you for this revealing explanation of how we got to where we are today.
