Thank you Mr. Segal for this “calling out” article. I’ve recently begun to skip over anything written by either of these “journalists” as they both have descended into a place where common sense is no longer a consideration, and a two- way conversation impossible.
Locals cannot access objective journalism, which is reflected in electoral outcomes. “Propaganda journalists” Nick, Jerry, and Josh Molina control local media, impacting local minds via distorted messaging and revisionism. Cringe, cry knowing, in large part thanks to Jerry, Josh Molina is now publisher of the historically respected Santa Barbara NewsPress. Moreover, Josh teaches “slant journalism” —aka biased reporting — at SBCC with his trainees then staffing local media including KEYT.
This cycle must be broken. Their direct successful intimidation tactics have most all conservatives and moderates living in fear, with their positions never shared. The list of businesses to boycott was the end all. Hope was lost when Josh was awarded control of the SB NewsPress.
The SB Current and planned CA Current are starters to message known facts needing vast community subscriber support.
Josh “el Gordito” Molina is the unofficial spokesperson for the local Sandinista-Comunista-Latinx crowd, featuring such low IQ politicians as Santamaria, Gutierrez, Carbajal and Limon. Pushing for social justice, rent reform, wealth redistribution and other lefty giveaways.
Yes, it should be obvious to all that the “Angry Poodle” is clearly not house broken and tends to leave his “calling card” all over our community. Spewing hate and anger, the Angry Poodle should really be on a leash, being really too vicious and unpredictable around unsuspecting strangers.
Not to be outdone by outrageous and hateful rhetoric, is make believe “journalist” and merchant of slime, “Newsfakers” very own Jerry Roberts.” Clearly, too stupid and prickly to have a real news job and relying on hit pieces, lefty talking points, rarely if ever giving two sides to any news story.
Remind us, why was Roberts shown the door over at the SBNP again?
Yes, these two hacks seem to have a vested interest in pushing the lefty agenda, covering up the corruption, incompetence and fraud of Dem politicians, all while keeping local “justice warriors” unhinged, in the dark, and foaming at the mouth over the orange one!
Well, this is how these liberals think and act. It’s unfortunate and also sad that anyone with an ounce of common sense would even read this. I’m hopeful that with all the corruption that is being undercover that things might change.
Santa Barbara deserves better and for those of us that live or have property there need to step up and change things now.
Good morning Lou. Of course, you were only stating the obvious. I truly hope people are beginning to wake up and see the harm that one party rule delivers. “Fish wrap“, like the independent are deserving of our condemnation, but no emotional expense.
We all wish there was a unbiased news source still here in town so all might see both sides of a story, but that ship has
sailed with the folding of the news press. Thank God for the SB current and Substack.
Keep up the good work. We love hearing your thoughts, as they are rooted in critical thinking. Something that most SB media drastically lacks.
There was a time when uber-Democrat mayor Marty Blum claimed in public she lined her birdcage with the former Wendy McCaw-Travis Armstrong Santa Barbara News Press.
Lou: the best thing you can do for your health and comfort is to avoid paying any attention to the angry writers you cite. Better to pay attention to the thoughtful voices with whom you can have a meaningful dialogue. You are only spreading the reach of the angriest voices when you cite them. They don’t deserve your attention.
Lou, Yet SB folks still ask why we are in this mess. Easy to see with the likes of Nick and Jerry running the propaganda arm for the Dems. I intensely disliked Biden/ Harris during their horrible tenure at pretending to run the US. Yet I never rose to the level of hate for them as I have seen in others about Trump. He's not perfect, far from it, but then again none of us are. He takes action, sometimes not always the best course, but at least he does something. HIs success rate is pretty decent , I would say he's batting above .500%. Maybe if our current SB Ctiy Council would take some real action, not creating another study group or hiring another consultant, we might all live in a better city.
Lou, like you I read Nicks column , the Angry Poodle , of many years. It used to be funny and satirical, now it is just a hate piece against everything that does not fit in Nicks world . Sad
Closer to home, state Democrats are in total apoplexy trying to game the current governor's race. Jungle primaries have put them into terminal jungle fever this year, after too many decades of total autocratic manipulation of state and local elections using their powerful ground troops, SEIU and the teachers union members, to determine winner and losers long before the first ballots are cast.
Political junkies will enjoy the continuing pratfalls these Democrat demagogues now face as Gen Z registered Independent voters disrupt their own smug insider games -Democrats are King Makers no more, as two very viable GOP candidates now emerge as front runners threatening to shatter the former Democrat DCC total control over who voters actually get to see on their final ballots.
This year is indeed a jungle primary. The Democrat King Makers are getting decidedly very nervous right now. Which two will win the final top two slots for the November ballot? Will Democrat King Makers collectively back only one Democrat candidate, fervently hoping for a 50% plus one vote early victory in this upcoming primary?
Or will two GOP capture the top two slots? Or will voters see a split the ticket and have a genuine contested race this coming November, allowing voters to finally see state issues debated before casting their final votes? Or will the two favored Democrat candidate offer voters contrived pablum non-choices and continue the downward spiral two decades of a Democrat super-majority have already inflicted on this state?
Just yesterday, the collective Democrat also-rans in his race cried foul as the major state government employee unions lined up behind (gasp) two white men (Swalwell and Steyer). While shutting out all the POC and sole woman, also vying on the Democrat ticket. Meanwhile, the party faithful continues to wait breathlessly for the real King Maker - the California teachers unions -- to bestow upon their rank and file who they are really required to support.
......." Teachers Support ...XYZ".......... may we have the envelope please?
Our local self-beknighted Democrat punditry trifecta (Welsh-Robert-Molina) are all sixes and sevens right now, which is dribbling out in their printers ink diatribes, screeds and calculated misinformation campaigns. Just call them the Kieth Olberman Spittle Syndicate and enjoy their hyper-partisan death rattles.
I don’t comment on SB Current anymore, but today I really must say a few things:
1) I’m very glad the pay wall was taken down. This is election year and SB Current needs to be accessible to everyone.
2) I wish SB Current would focus on local issues rather than do so many op ed pieces. I myself am involved in a battle in my own neighborhood. When I address it I never talk party politics. And you know what? The people who are fighting with me — a lot of them hate Trump. I don’t care. I care about saving my neighborhood and we are together on that.
3) You should all care about the issues that are breaking apart and wrecking this beautiful little city, like the corruption, the monetization of everything at the expense of preserving the beauty and the outrageous taxes. More than Trump Derangement Syndrome. You can’t change someone’s mind about Trump. But if you show them problems that affect their well being, it’s probably they will be on your side. And they will still hate Trump.
4) You need to run pieces like the ones by Bonnie Donovan and Justin Shores, who report on urgent city issues.
And with that, I wish you all a good election year. I won’t be commenting again.
A few years back, there was a great article in the Atlantic about the biochemical connection to confirmation bias theory. This post is a perfect example. Many are unaware of the fact that when your biases are supported/conformed, the body (primarily in the gut) produces a happy drug cocktail… serotonin and the like. The opposite is also true. When one’s biases are attacked/dis-confirmed, the body produces cortisol and its associated friends.
The bottom line is when your strong biases are attacked or unsupported, it is painful. It makes you angry, irritable and your blood pressure rises. Alternatively, when we feel supported we also feel happy.
Posts like this one, filled with strong feelings and opinions, will result in significant emotional responses. Like Nick, I get nauseated listening to DJT. Mr. Segal and many others on this forum, delight in listening to DJT. It makes them emotionally happy. The exact same event can generate irrational and confusing responses simply because we are unaware of the chemical component tied to feeling happy or sad.
I don’t have an opinion here. There is not right or wrong, it’s how one feels. It’s how the flush of chemicals our body produces affects us.
Sadly, the political parties know how powerful the chemical process behind Conformation Bias Theory and use it to control and divide us without us ever knowing that they are manipulating our feelings intentionally.
Well, here is the liberal response that always comes along when facts are being discussed. “This makes me feel bad.”
“ you people are mean”. Never tried to persuade anyone as to why their views are the correct views because that will expose them as the intellectual fraudsters that they are.
Your whining little diatribe disgusts me. How’d your thing go?
Never underestimate the existential power of Democrat voters protecting their own taxpayer-funded government employee jobs and benefits . This goes well beyond mere serotonin gratification.
Newsom during his 8 years doubled the government employee work force, and consistently championed more government dependencies, calling it "social justice". Let alone gaming voter district lines under the CVRA and now his truly reprehensible Prop 50 elimination of virtually all previously GOP voting districts. Never forget this was all done with voter approval and thousands of ....Teachers (unions) Support Prop 50 ..... lawn signs.
I use the independent to start my fires.

It's called undiagnosed mental illness.
Many agree with this analysis. Both the poodle and Roberts are dyed in the wool communists.

Yes, he has a particularly grating style of writing.

Santa Barbara deserves better and for those of us that live or have property there need to step up and change things now.
Problem is too many who have property here, are now out of town landlords and cannot vote in any local elections.
Perhaps the old wise saying applies, "Never wrestle with a pig. You just get dirty and the pig enjoys it."

The Atlantic is absurdly biased. Do you get a little thrill down your leg when your bias is confirmed?
