Planning to be there. We need to actually stand up for the rights of our daughters and granddaughters when it comes to fair competition. Riley Gaines has been all over the globe and on social media describing the travesty of having Lia Thomas show up at a NCAA swim meet. He took first place and subjected the young women to being naked with him in the changing area. The female athletes were told to keep quiet about this absurd situation or face major retribution. She recently did a great interview with Megyn Kelly on this, and it is a good update on this issue. We need to retake the asylum from the inmates.

Great article, thank you Celeste!

Hurray for the girls. My daughters and granddaughters have all benefitted from competitive sports. Starting at 5or 6 they continued through their school years including college. Thank you Title Nine.

Will Hannah-Beth Jackson, who made almost her entire political career about women's issues be there? (Yes, that's sarcasm buried in a scintilla of hope that maybe her Third Wave Feminism has changed a bit) Any of the Capps family? Susan Rose? Monique Limon? Any of the women in our public education system? (For which our tax $$$ pays) Am I missing something here? Anyway, I can't make it, but it would interesting if somebody at the meeting mentioned this.

Bravo! I guess we'll see how they really feel about actual women's issues!

After the fact, I learned that Hannah-Beth had attended! I wrote her back, thanking her. She was very gracious, sharing her many decades' support of Title IX.

Ok then, good for her if she's willing to oppose men participating in women's sports.

I love Celeste, but she is wrong regarding her support of Title IX. The law which was suppose to ban discrimination against females in college sports has had the opposite effect of discriminating against males by forcing the elimination of men sports teams in many colleges in America. The list is long: men's gymnastics, swimming/diving, wrestling and many other sports. More than 400 men's athletic teams have been eliminated as a result of Title IX.

It's not women we have to worry about anymore. There are considerably more women graduating college today than men. In fact the drop out rate for men is significantly higher. We have a crisis in America and that is men falling behind women in almost every metric of academic achievement.

Finally, Title IX has been used to justify having men compete in woman sports. Women are also using Title IX to take away the due process rights for men who have been accused of sexual assaults (intoxicated date rapes). In many of these cases, the men were falsely accused.

If it was up to me I would rescind Title IX. The law has outlived its usefulness and is causing far more harm than good.

Yes that's true. Today many colleges in order to comply with Title IX are allocating funds according to the ratio of females students to male students in the whole undergraduate student body. Obviously, in schools with a revenue-producing football or basketball team, that will be very hard to do, hence the elimination of men's sport teams. If you are going to keep Title IX, it would be better to look at the ratio of men and women who wish to participate in intercollegiate athletics rather then the overall numbers of students. Better yet, get rid of this burdensome federal regulatory program that is causing more discrimination than it is alleviating.

While this is supposed to be a celebration of Title IX, it should also be a Call To Action against biological males, that identify as females, to be barred from competing in women's sports! If Title IX is not defended against such a travesty of girl's and women's sports being absconded by biological males, it's not worth the paper it is written on!!! If you do speak out, be prepared to be called transphobic. Please, be brave and stand up for Title IX!!

We could also point out that Trickie Dickie created the EPA by executive order. And he supported it. In retrospect, he is starting to look good compared to the guy currently holding the office, who also committed impeachable crimes, but is considered too feeble to stand trial.

I flew off to Europe the day Nixon resigned, not to return for five years. I felt so good about his resignation, even considering he had scored the largest historical popular vote wipeout against McGovern just two years earlier. In the fullness of history, I am rather ambivalent about those initial feelings so long ago.

Too bad Watergate (and other things) torpedoed his Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan (CHIP), which aimed to provide universal health coverage for all Americans through a combination of employer-based insurance, government programs, and subsidies.

This whole issue could be solved by simply instituting THREE categories for sporting events: men/boys, women/girls, and "transgender". To avoid offending someone's gender preference, perhaps restrooms and shower rooms could be relabeled from "boys" and "girls" to "stands to pee" and "sits to pee"?

Paul Aijian MD's avatar

Ironically old men really ought to sit to pee🙄

Stephen H Siemsen's avatar

But, then again, old men should not be hanging around children's restrooms : )
