Outstanding column, Andy — absolutely spot-on. You’ve once again cut through the political fog and exposed the cynical power grab behind Proposition 50 for what it really is: Gavin Newsom’s latest scheme to cement one-party rule in California.
It’s incredible how the same crowd that decries “threats to democracy” has no problem rigging districts to silence half the state’s voters. The citizens’ commission was one of the few things in Sacramento still protecting fairness, and now Newsom and his enablers want to dismantle it to secure their grip on power.
And speaking of enablers — it’s time the Central Coast finally says enough to Congressman Salud Carbajal. For too long he’s carried water for Newsom, Biden, and Pelosi instead of standing up for the working families, ranchers, and small-business owners he’s supposed to represent. His record is nothing but lockstep party-line votes and press releases.
Let’s make this Salud Carbajal’s last term in office. The Central Coast deserves leadership that answers to the people here — not to San Francisco or D.C.
Thank you again, Andy, for keeping the light on truth and accountability when so much of the media looks the other way.

Help end this madness locally! Vote No and Vote for Bob Smith! Deceptive Salud fails again in his 10/3 Newsletter to give any reason for his “Republican Shutdown” that in fact is the Democrat Party’s shortsighted, damaging refusal to pass an interim Continuing Resolution to 11/7. He lies outright and by omission. To keep the government running, why not eliminate now the costly multi-billion dollar COVID-19 bonus coverage to illegal aliens that ends regardless at year end? Why? — because look at the money rolling in to Democrats from this media coverage they’ve created. Their goal: billions, with millions for NYC Mayor Socialist Candidate Mamdani (78% of donations from outside of NY).
We must boot Salud by voting in Bob Smith! Salud is ready to retire but must hold onto the seat until Laura Capps is free of single mom responsibilities to take over.
Today’s the Big 250th Navy Celebration in VA!
Today’s a good day for each of us to thank our stellar Congressional candidate Navy Cmdr Bob Smith (retired) with another donation of any amount and a note committing our active support.
I maintain it will not be Capps as Carbajal’s successor, the dark horse candidate is Monique Limon for CD 24, especially when she plays the “Latinx” card. White liberal voters will be guilted into supporting her over Capps.
Thank you, Andy. Besides the Capps family legacy on this ridiculous gerrymandering we have Gavin's preposterous claim to the White House. Ever since I saw that ridiculous photo spread of him and Kimberly Guillefoyle trying desperately to look like Jack and Jackie I've known he'll do anything to get it including turn CA into a gulag where we can't call his bluff (hate speech!) and our vote doesn't matter, so he can prove to his party he should win the nomination. My hunch is Laura Capps is putting on her best lipstick to try to convince Gavin to make her his VP. And as further instance of vote rigging, no one will convince me that Kamala's book is #1 on bestseller lists because people are actually buying it rather than some donor buying the thousands of copies to get that slot for her — then dumping them.
Thank you Andy, for yet again shining a light on the chicanery of the Democratic crime syndicate. Last night, I reviewed my voters guide trying to make heads or tails of it as the redistricting map reminded me of some bizarre ink blot test. The obvious objective is one of silencing our conservative voices.
Cheating, “putting the fix in,” is nothing new with this crowd. One only need recall the 60’ Presidential Election in Illinois when the mafia “fixed” the election for JFK. Then of course there is the Democratic suppression of black voters by “Dixiecrats” like George Wallace and Lester Maddox, all designed to maintain power by the true white supremacists…the Democrats!
Yes, as Yogi Berra famously said, “It’s de ja vu all over again!” With violent, angry, leftist mobs taking to the airwaves and to the public square, using fear, intimidation and violence to achieve their twisted goals.
This should not be surprising and is all right out of the Saul Alinsky playbook, “Rules for Radicals.” What’s next if the left is successful, another round of impeachment hearings? Richard Nixon is surely turning over in his grave!
Courageous post on your part Denise. One response proclaiming “It will pass easily.” I am afraid it will. In reading the numerous responses, it’s amazing how many STUPID people live in the 805!
Charlie Munger vs. the Teachers Union? That’s a no brainer!
From what I've read, the only reason Newsom is trying to do this is to counter the same bad behaviour that Trump asked Governor Abbot to do in Texas. You biblical folks get the 'an eye for an eye' thing, right?
Thomas, some issues with this statement. The Texas fiasco started well before Trump, and bringing Trump into it is literally current MSM/CA rhetoric.
Texas:
- Does not have an constitutional independent redistricting commission, its process is done by the legislature
- since the 2020 census redraw, liberal/Democrat elected officials and groups like LULAC have filed lawsuits stating the Texas post census maps violate the voting rights act and 14th amendment. 3 federal judges concurred.
- Texas initiated a redistricting effort to meet the courts findings in 2023. What the Democrats didn’t foresee was that Trump would pull a significant amount of the Texas Hispanic vote. So now the new maps they wanted are a problem for them now also.
CA:
- has a constitutional independent redistricting commission (IRC). Drawing new maps to the public violated the states constitution in even doing this effort.
- CA supermajority is on its third try to remove the IRC. Because the IRC has essentially limited the gerrymandering. Just look at CA, it’s already gerrymandered because of urban population centers. Currently has 83% of the house, this would bring it to 92%.
- Blue states, like IL, get far more house seats from gerrymandering. I have the data done and happy to show you. Both parties do it in states without an IRC, Dems have more seats from it because of urban population centers.
- Invoking Trump in this is just a way to justify prop 50 for Newsom, again 3rd try to remove fair districting, Trump seen as the catalyst to finally take Democracy away in CA.
It doesn't matter what Texas does anyway. Do you pay taxes there. If you're worried about Texas move to Texas. They have a long History of Gerrymandering look at 2003.
All it is is a power grab from Newsom who has a vendetta for Trump. The Districts already set up by citizens would go against their will.
In addition if you didn't read, the representation would Silence Republicans. The Cost of this Special election will be $300 million dollars you could hire 4800 teacher,Cops and Firefighters.
Our schools are in a decline and we have one of the lowest scorea in the nation. Our cities are burning and we have crime filled cities
Wouldnt it be better to spend money on all citizens to help our state to become safe and prosperous. California is also in a deficit. So we spend money on a special election instead of lowering the deficit
This is called cheating. Newsom knows without this, there is not other path to win.
Do you trust Newsom after he has failed to help Palisades Victims and diverted the Fire Aid money to other NGOS?
They claim it's temporary so its OK. Nothing isn't Temporary with the government. It never changes back after voted on.
The fights the Dems have been protesting for the last 8 months have been about democracy and No Kings.
But yet Newsomis acting like a king and silencing voices and changing laws so that he as the governor can win an election.
Thomas- it’s State’s Rights unless and until there is federal legislation stripping each state of its unique autonomy. CA has no authority over TEXAS. TX is not California. We have a non-partisan Citizen Redistricting Commission; Texas has good ‘ol boys. This Prop 50 is a total waste of money. Litigation against TX gerrymandering started before Trump.
Yes Monte, California is NOT Texas that is for sure! “Good ol’ boys?” You seem to have selective amnesia of Dem fixers like LBJ, Lloyd Benson, Dolph Briscoe, Henry B. Gonzales and others who maintained a blue super majority for years.
Sure, how about when dead people in a cemetery helped elect LBJ in the 48’ Senate race, then a recount was ordered and the courthouse where the ballots were stored mysteriously burned down!
I don't really care what Texas does for Texas. But the redistricting attempt in Texas is primarily to gain Republican seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, not state-level seats.
TJ: It's what the left uses all the time. Hatred is real!
Go read everything Salud puts out. Every time he starts with, Trump... Then go read all the Dem Women post "everyday" Trump...
The city and county are blaming "This Administration" for everything, including their "Deficit" they made...
Think for yourself and research, then vote however you choose; you still live in a free country.
PS research California elected officials in every office. Aren't Dems in control now?
SB, city dem majority, county dem majority, Assembly dem, Senator dem, Congress dem, Governor dem. Now go look at the other California city, county, etc.
Keep asking questions TJ :)
I believe I read it somewhere that California is already 90% Democrat-controlled (don't quote me on this). If I find some time, I will try to find it.
Bonnie - I'm in no way a fan of the CA democratic machine. I think all polarized States lose. Be it here or Mississippi. The current CA admin and SB, for that matter, can't manage a paper bag. Much less pay for it. That said I really don't like Trump and don't think his heart is in the right place. I do think he's done a great job on the border and dealing with Iran. I wish he was more mainstream - but that's not the way the country wanted to go.
I am tempted to say that dems are more flagrant gerrymanderers but nationwide the popular vote favored Trump by less than 2% and the balance in the house is of similar magnitude. That said, it is a threat to democracy only when Dems gerrymander because they are motivated by evil.
The remarkable thing is that in the end we end up with properly proportioned representation in the house. I haven't "googled" it but I would bet a doughnut that gerrymandering is far worse for state seats.
If you voted for the independent citizen approved redistricting initiative, and vote for Prop. 50, then you're wasting all the time and money of everyone who voted for that. You're essentially voting for the politicians who want to CHEAT.
I agree that gerrymandering is a political tactic; however, the overlooked issue is whether a state wants a system which would result in one party having all of the state legislators and all of its representatives in Congress if a party divide of 55/45 or such were equally distributed throughout the state. Gerrymandering is only tempting when a party’s voters are not equally spread out in a state.

WHAT HAPPENS IF governors/mayors/ police comms/chiefs do not enforce the law?
Methinks that Team Trump may invoke the insurrection act…

I don't really care what Texas does for Texas. But the redistricting attempt in Texas is primarily to gain Republican seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, not state-level seats.
In Texas, Democrats received about 44% of the vote in the 2024 presidential election but only hold 31.6% of the U.S. House seats.
In California, Democrats garnered 61% of the vote and control 82.7% of the House seats.
Yep, both sides suck. I'm just saying I think Newsome wouldn't have started the redistricting if Trump/Abbot didn't push those in TX out.
Reading Andy's one-sided take without mentioning that both sides do this crap you'd think CA was a total outlier on this.
Nice to see you googling numbers.
