I would like every person who is “shocked” that half of America supported Trump (his policies) in 2020 to open their homes to the millions flooding our country and support them... at their own expense. For those like me, with veterans and mentally compromised family members, I find the Democrats’ current “abandonment” our own citizens - i. e., increasingly curtailed access to overburdened healthcare resources for instance - far MORE shocking.
I agree whole-heartedly with Jim's response to "Anonymous". Tge Democrats have proven themselves to be more of an existential threat to our Republic than Trump ever was. And yes, Trump made a valiant effort to close our borders, only to be foiled by Rinos and Dems.
We have always had a migrant worker policy/program in California, so the 10 million illegals are not part of that worker equation. We have a valid immigration policy so do not need to create a new one, we just need politicians with a backbone to enforce it. Biden et al have proven they have no backbone.
I have never "liked" Trump, but he appears to be the only one who will put the brakes on the current downward spiral; DeSantis for VP is my first choice, Haley #2.
Party labels are not necessarily a rigid litmus test today - political principles are what count in the long run. Conservative principles I honor are: Protection of private property; limited government; rule of law; free and competitive markets.
Today one political party follows more of these; one political party abrogates nearly all of them. Is not politics the art of the possible; not a guarantee of perfection.
As for the border, instead of building a wall that would take many years of legal battles to accomplish, not to mention ever-increasing increases in an already huge price tag, how about simply cutting the entitlements one gets as soon as they cross the border? If we returned to the days where one had to be self-sufficient financially via their own means or that of a sponsor, it would seem that doing so would stem the flow. This is the view of the Libertarian party.
As for Trump, lest we forget, he famously said of prisoners of war "I like people who weren't captured"; he wasn't just referring to John McCain when he said that, and furthermore, when he advocated torture for prisoners of war captured by the U.S., he essentially threw away any reasonable bargaining chip the U.S. would have in expecting any humane treatment of our own soldiers.
As for what the Democrats have done over the past seven years, I agree with you, because I see nothing legally that they have, although he certainly could have stopped the January 6th riot, which despite the fantasies of his die-hard supporters--was an attempt to subvert an election. Does it ever occur to these people that their minds were made up *before* the election as he planted the seed in their collective head that the only way he could lose was via fraud? Did it ever occur to them that the reason a feckless person such as Biden won was not because of any virtue on Biden's part, but because Trump spent his time in office making an arrogant fool of himself, and thus alienating the "swing" voters? I get the rage and anger people have toward the Democrats' policies, I agree with you, but you're in denial about how you've been hypnotized by your justified anger, and a man who clearly is exploiting that anger.
Remember the part about prisoners of war, lest your loved ones ever end up being one of those Trump has made clear that he doesn't like. -Bill Clausen-
NB Clausen: we are not the blind MAGA cult you assume.
Too many loose ends still dangling from the 2020 "covid" election to reach any conclusions pro or con even at this late point. Many weaknesses still exist in our current system. We must do better.
Never overlook the role of the relentless "mocking bird" media that intentionally created the perception of Trump chaos. His infamous early morning tweets were one and done. It was the media who then batted them around endlessly throughout the rest of the day; not Trump. He moved on to get things done. Trump earlier in his life was an follower of Rev Norman Vincent Peale's "Power or Positive Thinking" movement at Marble Collegiate Church in NYC back in the 1970's - this had an obvious impact on how he operates today.
Trump did move past the daily partisan obstructions set in his path,, regardless of the direct and indirect assaults perpetrated against him even before he won the 2016 election, which never stopped after his 2016 election. Trump did not create Russia-Russia-Russia or covid- covid- covid or now insurrection-insurrection-insurrection. The media and Democrats did that. And they still do.
In fact, those without these partisan blinders did see Trump as far more promises made, promises kept. Nor are we blind to frustrations about his personal style. Just turn the sound off, and watch what he does. That is his real message. And get out of the Big Media echo chamber. Thanks for coming here to discuss these issues.
RE Clausen: "cutting entitlements after crossing the borders".
1982 - SCOTUS mandated 13 years of free K-12 education for all those who entered this country illegally. It is interesting to review their legal analysis at the time. This SCOTUS mandate did create a major incentive that would difficult to eliminate, absent overturning the 1982 SCOTUS ruling or a US constitutional amendment..
Nobody, and I mean _nobody_ loves Trump more than me. When he blasted onto the scene he undid the mess Traitor Obama inflicted upon us and showed the world what a guy with street-cred could do. You’ve probably seen it before, but here’s a list, (with sources), of all the great stuff Trumpy accomplished - https://bit.ly/3kj4jFO
BUT - I’m real apprehensive about how many people he’s turning off with his current rhetoric. He suffers from the one thing winners avoid - ’satisfactious’ . Sure - it’s fun (and satisfying) to tell the world you think the MSM is a bunch of crooks, your opponents are stupid, the Commie-Dems suck, and if you get back in office you’re going on a revenge spree, but how is that perceived by listeners, even fans?
It’s a long-way from a thoughtful, ’measured’ style, and could even be thought of as someone who could go off the deep-end. Trumpy is never gonna pull his punches - that’s why we love him, but when you realize how stupid most voters really are, completely susceptible to the Commie blather the Main Stream Media puts out every day, you can see how his rants are a bit unsettling to say the least.
I wish he’d tone it down a notch - we don’t need a lecture - we need a winner!
