Scott - that doesn't sound like a fun night. Is your November SBCAG paper on electric versus gas available anywhere online?

Scott Wenz's avatar

Sure I'll be happy to send it to you.

Just a heads up it is based upon fair and equal protection of taxation. The streets demand the costs be spread equally.

The CAB email is cab@CarsAreBasic.org

Also, unlike most non-profits CAB has never taken one cent of taxpayer money and has existed solely on private donations and efforts.

David McCalmont is a either an idiot or just plain ignorant. James Fishback is an odious grifter, liar and a thief, and if that isn't bad enough he is also been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-yr-old girl who asked for a restraining order against him. He is currently unable to pay a $230,000 judgement against him from various lawsuits by past business associates and has been ordered by a judge to sell his Tesla and other assets. He is also being sued by his previous employer for defamation. If you look at his history he has basically screwed up everything he has ever been involved in and has left a trail of chaos in his wake.

As for his politics, he has expressed support for the white supremacist, Nick Fuentes and has said vile things about Israel and Jews. This list goes on and on . The Republican Party should run as fast and as far from this guy as they can. Thankfully, the people in Florida are learning about him so his chances of winning any race there is pretty much nil.

When will we organize to fight back? South County is under socialist control, run by bureaucrats. Too many of our performative minimal time elected officials are stupid, weak, ignorant, self-serving and incapable of leadership. Our privately owned homes, are at risk.

What’s Next?’ After more taxes, bonds and fees due to deficit spending, depleted emergency reserves, and their refusal to cut bureaucracy or payroll, these officials will take our property. How? The County & City will put a cap on the maximum resale price of single family privately owned homes. There will be a mandated Registry Count of bedrooms and number of household occupants as proposed by D3 Westside Rep Oscar Gutierrez to enable occupancy utilization compliance.

Be reminded that in October, SB City Council exempted itself from its rent stabilization proposal: “Rental Units owned, operated, and managed by a City of Santa Barbara government unit, agency or authority.” These housing units, now costing upwards of $800,000 per unit, are already property tax exempt failing to fund public schools, municipal services, or the excessive compensation packages of public employees. An estimated 1 in 7 residents contribute nothing toward the high costs of our collective community expenses. Our reality is not sustainable.

FIND to SUPPORT financially literate, business savvy, strong proven conservative, moderate leaders to turnaround our failed cities and Santa Barbara County. Nationally, stellar Congressional Candidate Cmdr Bob Smith is working 24/7 to win June 2 primary. Fund him and volunteer. Saturday 1/31 he’ll be at Mulligans.

Jim, the more local the subjects are the more I agree with people on this site. But right now there's a story of ICE agents this morning on Salinas street in Santa Barbara. See it on Noozhawk.com.

There are two videos posted, one shows a woman that looks like she just drove over from Starbucks on Coast Village road. . . getting pepper sprayed in the face.

I've got nothing against you folks but in this town, this county and this state you are vastly outnumbered and videos like these will not help.

Scott: Are we already outnumbered? I recently heard 66% of SB County is against oil with about the same number supporting the gas tax. Frightening, as I see everyone benefitting from oil production. Why do you think so many locals are self destructive to their own cost of living, against high paying jobs for locals, while crying ‘affordability’ and demanding more and more from government? The enemy is within.

Because they have grown up and gone through a school system that indoctrinate them to collectivism thinking. I would add to your list of people needed in government to include our local and statewide school boards. There has to be an end to this anti-American preaching by our teachers. Just like we had to close the border in order to stop the inflow of the illegal migration.

Brian- End all public employee unions. Teachers unions control school boards. Where’s our GOP Congress on this? They’ve only 9 months left to act, to codify existing EOs, etc. Do you know local management employees have unionized? They unionized despite existing salaries and lifetime compensation packages larger than those of the POTUS, SCOTUS, top military brass, …. Where’s our local revolt?

If I were back in Santa Barbara I would be fighting this with everyone I could find to get republicans and independence to run for these seats.

RIs? Republican/independents or possibly Rugged Individualist replaced by Mamdani.

Marina King's avatar

Yes, rugged individualists.

Here here! I 100% agree. I’ve been screaming this from the mountain tops for years, but it always seems to fall on deaf ears.

Today’s article (1/28/26) on rent freeze. https://www.noozhawk.com/santa-barbara-council-approves-temporary-rent-freeze-in-split-vote/

“The council also adopted new rules for pulling units off the rental market.

“Now, if a landlord wants to take one unit off the rental market, they would also have to take all other units on that property off the market as well.

“Once off the market, units can’t be rented out again for five years, according to the ordinance.”

Looks like property confiscation to me.
