“sun doesn’t shine or wind doesn’t blow, the backup power must be hydrocarbons.”
It’s way way worse than that.
Even when the sun is shining and wind blowing it is not consistent. That is nature.
Now look around you and see if any of your appliances can run on 92.7v or 57.4v that fluctuates all day long. Anything other than a constant consistent sine wave of 110v/220v and our world stops dead in its tracks.Go ahead, try and run your coffee machine on 40v, yo will see
How do we keep the voltage consistent? By burning hydrocarbons of course. And because the incoming electricity from wind and solar is variable and sometimes non-existent, we have to use what are called “fast-spin” gas generators that are both inefficient and must be powered up and down constantly to keep the current steady.
IOW, we end up burning way more oil and gas than if we had never deployed wind and solar in the 1st place, and just developed and deployed better and more efficient gas generators and upgrades to our aging transmission and distribution grid.
Thank you for bringing this taboo’ subject… yes these morons are pushing this agenda on everyone , without the consent of we the people..
And it’s happening even though it makes no sense…
They question is.. How do we stop them? By voting? That’s a joke
Elected officials are bowing to another source that is not we the people?
Huge problem ahead.. what is the solution? This situation will only get worse before it gets better… we should demand this insanity ends now.. but how? Anybody?
good question Jenn…yes, the situation will get worse (for a short period) before it gets (much much) better…we are nearing the climax of this crazy movie…best way to end the insanity is to Fight 4 Trump!!!
Jenn, I would love to hear your thoughts on why voting is not a potential solution to the current problems we have. I can’t think of any other possible solution other than voting.
They seem to just push along with their agenda or don’t even put important decisions on the ballot.,
How many years now California actually voted to stop daylight savings .,, lol when will they comply with we the people? It’s been 5 yrs plus we voted for that to stop..so no, Voting, if it’s not their way it’s the highway..
or: Biden is in the White House.. we did not vote him in that’s a joke..
I don’t know the solution
We all seem to be aware but what is the solution to stop them..? I do not know sadly
But at least we are talking about it.. it’s a beginning
And Newscum blames it ALL on climate change. He drank the Kool-Aid long ago and until the voters in this State see the truth, we'll continue on this path to self-destruction. Thanks for sharing your observations...couldn't agree more. Blessings
Info like this needs to be read by more; we here realize what's going on (I send to others when I can).
I hear that the CO2 count is going up (again). After how many years of environmentalism, our conservation and technology has increased CO2? Perhaps there are better ways to judge the air quality; CO2 might be the wrong benchmark for pollution.
You are correct in that our leaders are like the windmills when no wind or the sun at night: energy less in reason and common sense.
For anyone not aware, Carl DeMaio has been fighting this corruption for years. He had a radio program but may have moved on. Website ReformCalifornia or Carldemaio.com.
Pardon my confusion ... Isn't using natural gas a long with cleaner energy sources, as a combination an option? I'm not a battery expert, but they are basically a chemical reaction so I'm wondering if they could be chemically neutralized and toxins made less of a hazard. At any rate, is that really worse than all the carbon monoxide and other toxic byproducts of oil production, or a nuclear power plant? Have you watched the 100? It's a trip because it makes you realize that there's little point in all the fighting that we do when we should be cooperating to find better more sustainable solutions, because we only have one planet. There is no planet B.
Your planet is not in peril. Natural forces will continue on their 7 billion year course. There is time. You need not worry. Human time pales in comparison to geologic time, which is the pace these steady geologic forces will be at work.
Through my usual daily routine of deleting junk mail, I happen to gaze at an SBCurrent post that was included. Not to my surprise it was quite evident that this particular site was ever so tipped toward the right side of the fence. My whole adult life I have made a clear conscious effort to travel directly down the middle of all things in life. I’m neither a Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative and I tend to listen to both sides of every story before coming to my conclusions. I learned years ago that there’s many things in life that I have no control over, so I give only small amounts of time and energy to those particular things. Do I have a conscience that can bother me? Of course!. Does it matter what happens in my small world and beyond? Absolutely! but I only have a finite amount of time on this planet so I tend to concentrate on the things I can control. I also choose to be kind, caring and compassionate as much as possible. All this being stated, I do have the ability to give my unbiased opinions when I feel inclined and although I too get frustrated with such things as politics, religion and just about anything else that causes people to have meltdowns. But what I learned long ago is that complaining just for the sake of complaining gets nothing accomplished other than more people joining in the complaining. I’ve always followed the “don’t tell me what you’re going to do, show me what you’ve done” approach. It would be nice to read some examples of solutions to problems on this site, instead of the old tired regurgitations of complaints to issues that none of us have real solutions to address, let alone the power to address them. Until my ONE VOTE really makes a difference in any election, I too am at the mercy of what the masses decide. For better or for worse.
Mark, Here are the solutions: (1) Repeal 16th Amendment. (2) Prohibit all government employee unions. Creation of an unelected "government" class that is now 22 million strong since WWII has altered the direction of this country.
We are feeling the power and reach now of this radical post WWII shift in our original three-part form of government, that now is at the mercy of this unelected post WWII fourth branch which was never intended by the Founders. Just the opposite. To be anti-Big Government is to be pro-US Constitution.
Both of the above were started by a few strokes of the pen. Both can be just as easily ended. Elimination of both will bring change and put this country back on its original path. But first there needs to be a critical mass of support these changes. Big Government has unfortunately become the normative over the past few decades; even though as you point out it triggers little more today than just complaints and passivity. (Including your own, as amply stated between the lines.)
Don't discount others sharing their similar concerns. Politics follows culture. (Breitbart) Which of those two stated action plan do you want to sign up for? (1) Repeal 16th Amendment. (2) Prohibit all government employee unions.
With all due respect, I’ll have you know that I’ve never been an optimist or pessimist, but a full red blooded realist. My world is real, blunt, many times cruel and confusing, but never misunderstood. I see things for the way they are and I try to adapt to whatever my real world throws at me. What does this mean? It means I seek truths and facts before making conclusions. Not only would I repeal the 16th if at all possible, but several other amendments as well, or at least revise a few of them to meet today’s standards and requirements. As for government unions? Again I would agree wholeheartedly. Unions do indeed serve a valuable purpose in select sectors but not across the board. History has shown this fact time and again. But I’ll be honest and state that my most fundamental concern in America has been the infestation of mass misinformation and political corruption. Both dominate political parties in this country are morally corrupt, and have been for so long that there’s no longer guardrails to curb the lies, let alone prevent it. As much as there’s both pros and cons to term limits, I feel term limits are almost certainly going to be required in the not too distant future. But in the immediate, it’s this horrendous misinformation and outright distortion of facts and truth that draws most of my concern. Like I originally wrote, I’m a middle of the road guy. I do my research and I study the facts to draw my conclusions. I’m not a bandwagon guy nor am I a gullible moron that will believe the loudest and most aggressive mouths in this country. It’s fine to be an optimistic person when you live a simplistic life but if you tend to be an inquisitive thinker type, then optimism and pessimism are not your friends and misinformation is your true enemy. I’ve spent a good bit of time reading some of the posts from others on this site and quite predictably SBCurrent is certainly not immune to misinformation.
We generally do not classify a healthy and successful family management as democratic, republican or etc. so let‘s be pragmatic and leave political cataloguing out of city management. Let’s do what good parenting does: get things done that further the safety of our community members and the healthy growth of our economic community. Gita Labrentz. SB resident.
Attributing the decline of state street due the absence of cars seems so wrong. Are people going to ignore the convenience and use of using the internet to buy whatever someone wants at an affordable price we without ever having to leave their home? Why go to restaurants when you can have that food delivery right to your home? Why watch movies in a theater when you can just use a streaming service? The ridiculous price of rent in some places is also a deterrent for small business, it sure is affordable when only someone making hundred a of thousands of dollars a year can safely afford to cover the cost of rent.
Which came first - the unsavory state of State Street that drove shoppers away, or the fact those shoppers then chose to use online instead of being hassled by the street people. Plenty of other towns with still viable downtowns and cars of their streets.
Just visited Lafayette, Calif - same challenge - one long commercial district. It would be laughable if anyone suggested closing down traffic on that one main thoroughfare, and shove everyone on the side streets. Traffic, sidewalk pedestrians and plenty of community life.
You’re blaming the politicians? Are you kidding? They’re just doing what snakes do. Instead blame the knuckleheads who keep voting them into office.
If I was a politician I’d spend 3 years screwing the pooch with my crazy ideas and 3 months pimping the media to convince my dopey constituents what a hero I am. :)
Just think what "term limits" did to this increasingly grotesque political ethic. Talk about smash and grab, when faced with winning, running again, and then not running because you time is up, all in quick succession. Why not dump all the hard problems on the next round of revolving door term-limited newbies?
Law of unintended consequences. Did term limits solve our prior disgust with a few entrenched power brokers? We need a post mortem on which was worse: no term limits; term limits; or other forms of political limits than the relatively short limits that are imposed today. Term limits is not working. Entrenched power brokers was not working. Let's put our head together and plan our next package of election reform .What we have made things even wiser, but in different ways.
If we do not have the political will to throw the bums out, is just time in office they get thrown out anyway, even if they are doing a good job --- a good alternative? Do we need fewer distinct elections with narrow concerns; or more at large or hybrid -a district residency required, but voted on by a wider group of interested voters?
“sun doesn’t shine or wind doesn’t blow, the backup power must be hydrocarbons.”

Repeal 16th Amendment - defunding much of what is going on.
Hi..:)
Voting doesn’t get the job done or undone
They seem to just push along with their agenda or don’t even put important decisions on the ballot.,
How many years now California actually voted to stop daylight savings .,, lol when will they comply with we the people? It’s been 5 yrs plus we voted for that to stop..so no, Voting, if it’s not their way it’s the highway..

But at least we are talking about it.. it’s a beginning
Repeal mail-in voting.
Only citizens with valid ID can vote and on one day only.
This isn’t hard. It’s not a mystery…
Like the quote from the old movie “The Untouchables”
“ Mr. Ness, everybody knows where the booze is. The problem isn't finding it, the problem is who wants to cross Capone.”
And Newscum blames it ALL on climate change. He drank the Kool-Aid long ago and until the voters in this State see the truth, we'll continue on this path to self-destruction. Thanks for sharing your observations...couldn't agree more. Blessings
