No one is above the law unless they are a Democrat. In which case the media will ignore it and all democratic mine numbed robots will excuse it and put a check next to anything that has a D after it.

There seems to be no such thing as integrity anymore. It doesn’t count because in their eyes, they are defeating “evil“, so anything goes.

No one is, or should be, above the law. Yet time and again, Democrats like Adam "Shifty" Schiff act as if accountability only applies to “We the People” and never to them.

Take Shifty Schiff, for example. While sitting in Congress and later running for Senate, he played fast and loose with his own mortgage filings, listing Maryland as his “primary residence” while representing California, a direct violation of both law and trust. He’s made a career out of lecturing Americans about “integrity” and “truth,” yet his own record is riddled with questionable conduct that would have sunk any ordinary citizen.

Lisa Cook, Letitia James, and Adam Schiff all highlight the same double standard: powerful Democrats who swore oaths to uphold the law instead bent it for personal advantage. Ordinary Americans would face stiff penalties, even prison, for mortgage fraud. But these political elites expect a pass because of their titles, degrees, or political connections.

President Trump’s removal of Lisa Cook is a reminder that integrity matters, especially in positions of immense responsibility. The Constitution requires honesty from our representatives, and the American people have every right to demand it.

No one is above the law. Schiff, James, Cook, or anyone else, justice must apply equally.

According to Pro Publica, 3 of the current cabinet members (labor, transportation, and EPA) have also done the same thing with their mortgages. So I hope they get called out as well! No one should be above the law!

I've always liked the British phrase "made redundant" as a euphemism for being fired from a job. I find myself unwilling to vote for any incumbent without severe scrutiny, the vast majority of them need to be turfed out and put to pasture. I look forward to a DOGE analysis of how elected officials manage to own multiple properties and huge stock portfolios that are not explained by their reported incomes. Grift and graft are universal, and now more than ever we need people in Government who represent us and act with honesty and character.

Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone ...... How many times do we see this same story. Democrats loudly accuse Republicans (without evidence) of what they in fact are doing themselves.

Can an entire political party fit onto a Jungian psychiatric couch and collectively deal with their projection problems? Or better, we can now reliably back track every single Democrat accusation to reveal with certainty their own record of tawdry sins.

2025 political axiom: Democrats in fact do what they accuse others of doing. Assume this is now political bedrock. Note to GOP: guard against your own hubris at the same time. Politics offers very messy, equal opportunity temptations.

Are you equating those two events? A moral equivalency of sorts? The AG of a state who serves at the will of the people...versus a governor of the Federal Reserve Board who is appointed and will hold that position for 14 years whose immediate responsibility is monetary policy, including how it affects mortgages??? I'm sure there are plenty of instances to go around, but I believe equating these two, presumably for political parity, is a bridge too far.

I believe that these convictions, as with,Capone will be what the Democrats will be arrested for and charged.

While they are looking at Financial Crimes they should look at Nancy Pelosis insider training.

They set the precedence to go after ex Presidents businesses.

As others have stated in these comments "No one is above the law."

If I remember correctly Shifty Schiff in the impeachment of President Trump made the same comments. It has now been proven the Schifty had hidden or destroyed information that included the case set up by Obama about Russia Russia Russia.

The trail is now leading back to multiple Democrats which at the least would have been felonies if Mr. Zepke or myself had signed a statement of fact that is false. It would be interesting to see if these transactions that are interstate fraud could result in additional charges at a Federal Level.

Tsk Tsk, it sounds like Newsom getting a house in a location from a mysteriously magically formed "non-profit" who is daughter now works for and then declared the house a farm where there are no farms in the neighborhood.

This sounds like it could be a great factious story for TV.... "AS THE WORLD TURNS."

Remember the other side voted for these people and they are now under serious charges of fraud and interstate deceptions.

I'm glad they threw these bums out on a technicality, - Cook, Schiff and James - it's about time the GOP started digging petty like the Commie-Dems, but I wonder how many of our other congressional representatives would be hittin' the road if their business activities were closely inspected.

Of course everybody is going to claim 'Primary Residence' to get better mortgage terms - what's the lender going to do - knock on the door occasionally and ask for ID?

one sided reporting. This country is corrupt. There will be many politicos of both sides of the house doing this. So biast article I seem to remember POTUS is not above a bit of graft too.

A judge found that from 2011 to 2021, Trump inflated his net worth by billions of dollars on financial statements to deceive banks and insurers. The fraudulent claims included exaggerating the size of his Trump Tower penthouse and manipulating the value of other properties, such as his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Mortgage fraud is probably a bipartisan thing. I doubt it is only confined to Democrats. It seems like Trump and his pitbull, William Pulte, are targeting Cook because she hasn't indicated a willingness to lower rates. The Fed is far from its target inflation rate and lately inflation has been going in the wrong direction, indicating it may be prudent to wait before lowering rates. The last thing we need right now is more inflation. It's important the Fed remains independent since there has never been a politician I know of who thought we should raise rates.

Expand full comment
TVW's avatar

Unless I'm misreading the data (I'm not), overall inflation trend has in fact dramatically improved while the artificially high fed rate has cratered the housing industry and ancillary businesses. The US has the highest interest rates of all the industrialized Western countries...by a lot.

The only data Powell, et. al., require to lower the Fed rate is to know when a Democrat is up for presidential re-election. Works every time.

"Trump and and his pitbull" is a little telling.

It depends on your time frame. It has improved over the last few years. It was 9% in late 2021. However, CPI and PCE have been running at 2.7% and 3.1% respectively, a 100 basis points higher than the Fed 2% target for inflation. Both measures have been increasing over the last few months, which has been a worrisome development. Core inflation has been increasing even more since May. Finally, you think Trump is going to select someone who hasn't promised to lower rates? I doubt it.

As for the housing market, mortgage rates are tied to the ten-year treasury, which increased by 75 basis points the last time the Fed reduced rates (50 basis point reduction a year ago).

TVW's avatar

I must confess that I'm a fan of lower rates. It goes hand-in-hand with having a strong economy. Unfortunately, the government spends recklessly irrespective of who is in power, although the Democrats clearly have a lot more egg on their face in that regard. And another component is the housing industry. Under Clinton the US was giving taxpayer money away to completely unqualified and undeserving individuals. We all experienced the consequences of those irresponsible "feel good" policies.

Are not the odds overwhelming the Fed will lower rates at the next meeting? Why has Powell has inferred the same? Clearly President Trump has been leaning on him...which probably made Powell dig in his heels. However so have most economists with a respectable track record...that would definitely preclude the fav of the Left...Paul Krugman...by the way.

Cook (or any Fed member) should have stepped aside...at a minimum...given her role in monetary policy. Instead, and to the surprise of no one, the tired tripe of "fascist" and "racist" surfaced...as if she was supposed to be inoculated from such accusations predicated solely on the happenstance of birth. The issue transcends politics. I agree...not centric to one party...look for it.

This is exactly what Bernanke and the Obama Administration said when they kept interest rates at virtually zero percent for over 10 years and basically printed money like it was a game of monopoly to fund the humongous deficits, which allowed our govt to spend money like drunken sailors.

I stated "lower rates". A distinction with a difference. Agree...rates that are too low...like high rates...do not serve the economy and more important the people trying to survive within that economy...absent temporary and emergency use.

The "no docs", "stated income" loans were devastating...lots of blame to go around....vertically and horizontally.
