Thanks Andy for raising such an important topic. I share your feelings about the tragedy those folks in a great part of Texas my family has enjoyed. California remains an enigma. Despite the example of the Hoover Dam many folks seem to forget the lesson from the Romans hundreds and hundreds of years ago: control the water. Perhaps learn from Ehtiopia who is building a dam?
I agree with you, Andy. And if there is a chance that the Texas flood was the result of weather tampering - as I've read - I'd like to see money spent on investigating this rather than on “climate change” bs programs. I don't know enough about seeding and other ways of altering weather to know if this could be true. But I also didn't know how many biolabs were developing diseases like Covid before the pandemic, and I'm still appalled that we're spending money developing new vaccines rather than stopping these experiments.
“The Boy Who Cried Wolf” isn’t just a children’s story; it is a timeless conundrum meant to educate every generation.
I remember the debris flow disaster in Montecito like it was yesterday. The problem was similar to the Texas flash flood problem in that the population at the time was suffering from “alert warning fatigue”. We had just gone thru about a month of almost daily warnings and possible evac notices and it had become routine.
There is a no win scenario for the alert systems people because if they don’t alert, they get blamed when something bad happens on their watch; and if they alert and scare people too much, fatigue sets in and the alerts lose all gravitas.
Like in the story “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” this is a known problem that is unavoidable.
Howard, sorry, not sure I understand what your reply to me means. There were numerous warnings of “A MAJOR THREAT” coming from multiple sources every day for weeks. It was exactly a “Boy Who Cried Wolf” scenario that led to many people not evacuating yet again for the umpteenth time and their luck ran out. It doesn’t matter if the boy who cried wolf was a woman. It’s a metaphor
Thank you, Andy. The Bible says to subdue the Earth, but I'm sure you agree that God did not mean for us to rape, pillage, or destroy it. He calls on us to nurture and care for the planet.
Nitrogen is essential to growing our food, yet nitrogen pollution has become one of the leading drivers of biodiversity loss on Earth. God gave us the intelligence to find solutions to challenges such as these—and the responsibility to act. As human beings, we are more than capable of being wrong. The massive forest fires we have experienced appear to be a very good example of that.
True, true, but until there are severe penalties for neglect of these truths by the responsible authorities, e.g. the Mayor of Los Angeles is still in place after her, and her administrations neglect, and her absence before and during the latest Los Angeles Wildfire, the rot at the top, will continue.
I'm no fan of Biden. Where the heck did you ever get that? Oh yeah, you're one of the cheerleader types that just roots for your team. So, where am I demonstrating any hypocrisy?
Thank you for writing. It would be safer to dam and divert run off from storms. Providing sirens to warn and educate residents of dangers would be practical.
Instead, we dam-up main egress thoroughfares that force traffic bottlenecks guaranteeing disaster.
Expensive endeavors to thwart Mother Nature require big bucks which is redirected to the politicians' pockets. With flood as an example, there is no money going to be spent on dams, "LA Rivers," or Warning Systems. Therefore, learn to head for high ground if there is imminent flooding. Use common sense, the best survival tool in life. Humans can't compete with water, lightning, falling trees, rockslides, avalanches and all that sort of stuff. And common sense applies to things like don't drink acid, don't stick your finger in an electric outlet or put your hand inside the garbage disposal when it's on. If you think something can kill you, then it probably can. If it's raining a lot, then there's a chance of flash floods ... those girls shouldn't have been where they were in the first place because there was a trace of a risk factor of flooding. What were those parents thinking?
By the way, I tend to take risks that could kill me, but I don't include anyone else risking their lives when it comes to me taking risks. Thinking back when I was a kid at the Trailblazers Summer Camp in New Hampshire, I recall the macho counselors willing to brave anything.
Good Article Andy…’climate change’ is nothing more than another fear porn play on humans by the elites to control the masses, thin out the herd, and extract time & energy from mankind…good to see that people are waking up to man made disasters…
We went from “Cloud Seeding is just a Conspiracy Theory” to “Did Geo-Engineering manufacture the Texas Floods?” Reality always catches up to Conspiracy, usually about 6 months or so…
Not saying you’re wrong here but isn’t diverting rivers and building dams the ultimate in geo-engineering??
And do you really believe that a few airplanes can cause weather modification literally a billion to a trillion times their volume and mass?
I have an open mind about such things but currently haven’t seen any proof. Similar to fracking actually affecting continental plates on a tectonic scale causing major earthquakes. Just doesn’t appear possible given the scale and energy applied.
But like Fox Mulder in the X-Files, “I Want To Believe” 😊🤷♂️
might want to try First Principles Thinking…break out of the group think…this is bigger than can be imagined…Nothing Can Stop What Is Coming (NCSWIC)…nothing!
Of course humans should divert, store & use water resources on the ground, but should we ultimately control weather from above? Qurious minds want to know…
Controlling the notorious London fogs changed their weather patterns. Controlling our own Southern California smog may well cause a rise in temperatures, due to loss of the smog particulate matter here too. How cannot the mass heat exhausting from so much air conditioning today not change ambient temperatures to a new normal? Trade-offs.
“How cannot the mass heat exhausting from so much air conditioning today not change ambient temperatures to a new normal? Trade-offs.”
Trade-offs indeed.
Air con does not add heat to the environment. It merely exchanges it. It’s much the same as why arctic ice melt does not and can not raise sea levels. Say you have an ice cube floating in a drink. The ice cube melts but the liquid level in the drink never changes.
Yes, I walk my dog up in the foothills every day at daybreak. And watch them spray the trails. A contrail dissipates a short distance from a plane’s exhaust, while chemtrails extend across the sky and then spread out, and within a few hours, our skies look like mayonnaise. Haven’t seen them spraying for about a month now. But it does occur. For whatever reason, much of the chemtrail spraying also seems to occur over large urban areas. There are many theories as to why they spray, are they trying to kill us? Are they trying to dim the sun to save us from global warming? Do they load the sky up with metals so that they can track UFOs? The world is getting stranger by the moment.
Last summer in England, they sprayed the skies almost constantly through the summer and the local population so almost no direct sunlight in many parts of the country the entire summer…
haven’t seen Big Foot, but lots of raptors, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, and a few coyotes here & there…lots to see or could stay home & follow the narratives…
Eric, I agree totally about contrail weather control as I have heard it called. I cannot believe that airplanes can spew enough material relative to the volume they are trying to influence to do much at all.
The control of waterways, forest management, flood control and drainage, electric grid management, pandemic response…these are all things we actually know how to do and have spent thousands of years learning every lesson the hard way.
Unfortunately the solutions are known but neither sexy nor profitable. They involve countless men and machines and years of thankless almost invisible work to make our civilization safer and able to grow and thrive.
Instead, we get incredibly stupid or possibly malicious gestures from our political leadership.
Take the recent habit of cutting off electricity to huge populations to avoid devastating wildfires.
The real solution is known. You harden the electrical grid and remove all vegetation around it for at least 50 yards in all directions. This includes trees. You clear it old growth around population centers at least a quarter mile in all directions.
But to do this means employing tens of thousands of men with axes, chainsaws, wheelbarrows and trucks (who probably don’t share your political views)…forever…
And OBTW, you completely disallow any homeless encampments to exist. (That’s a period at the end of that phrase in case you are wondering if there may be any exceptions)
Can’t have or encourage that so they just cut off the electricity, the lifeblood of human civilization to make like they are doing something…
What happens when you cut off a person’s electricity? What do they do?
They fire up gas generators, light candles for light, and burn wood and gas for warmth.
IOW, they light uncontrolled fires.🔥 lots of them…tens of thousands of them. Especially in rural areas in the middle of dried brush and dead vegetation.
So shutting off electricity to avoid wildfires is like trying to avoid airborne viral contagion by concentrating everyone indoors on top of each other thru fear and intimidation. When they do go out to buy food, concentrate them again into only a few government approved big box stores.
Virtually guaranteeing infection and promotion of a virus as quickly and virulently as possible.
This is either extreme stupidity or intentional evil.
Hard to put a hierarchy on which is worse.
But like the classic Led Zeppelin song, The Song Remains the Same.
Perhaps the overlooked lesson in Texas is to not allow buildings and camps in known flood plains and dry river beds. And to encourage reliance on credible science regarding water ways and consequences. Of course, this thinking does not ease my true sorrow for the loss of life and the profound sadness brought to so many loving families.
Believe it or not, I don’t think I disagree with one thing in this article. Could the word subdue possibly mean that man was supposed to make the Earth work for both man and beast and help nature along the way with dams and clearing forests of debris and controlling pollution etc.?
Right-on Andy - Mother Nature can kick your ass big time if not grabbed by the neck and controlled. I look at it like a mama-mama Lion - picks her cubs up carefully but can be a raging beast when provoked. If you’re not paying attention, she’ll whack you so hard you won’t know what hit you. Treat her with respect fer sure — but you’d better not go soft, or she’ll eat you alive.
Terrific post. All true. We most likely have been a victim or know victims, who have been effected directly by wildfire or floods. The lack of focus on river/stream and forestry management is negligent, bordering on criminal.
Spot on. Amazing that so many do not understand this. They blame it on everyone and everything except the right reasons

I read this article titled "Mother Nature is a Stone-Cold Killer"
By Andy Caldwell about the Texas Floods. Of course, I
have another title "Santa Barbara Is a Stone-Cold Killer"
I quote from Mr. Caldwell "heartbroken over the tragedy
that hit the hill country in Texas"
On January 2, 2018, FEMA declared a Major Disaster for
Ventura and Santa Barbara counties due to the Thomas Fire.
On January 8, 2009, around 11 am, at the request from SOMEONE,
we both drove up to Monticeto as clouds were moving in. We got
out of the car multiple times as we drove down E. Valley Road
down Toro Canyon. SOMEONE said this is a disaster and
why has the SB Fire Dept not evacuated people? There were
a few Fire Dept folks putting down 30 sandbags at culverts.
Later around 5pm the storm moved in and still no evacuations
and no general emergency announced. SOMEONE was heartbroken
over the tragedy that was going to hit Santa Barbara, and it did.
Where were the So-Called Santa Barbara Leaders?
You all may think this statement is harsh. 23 People died.

Hello Eric Gordon that SOMEONE I referenced above knew EXACTLY that

who has repeatedly detected THE THREAT that is Santa Barbara.

Aha! Tit for Tat.
No, not Tit for Tat, just let's use the same measuring stick on both sides.
Wow
