Bravo, Justin. California is a great place to be homeless, an illegal, a heroin addict or a lawyer. Not great if you're trying to run a business (at this point no matter what size business), or buy your first home … or get insurance. Actually, the insurance companies would say it's a lousy state to be an insurance provider. How people can continue to vote for this has been a real mystery to me. Just this week the owners of a small Santa Barbara food business sent out a mass email to their customers about how we all have to give money to stop ICE. I wrote them back. Here's what I said:
“I have been a loyal customer for six years since you began. I think the world of what you are doing with your small food business and your products are exceptional. But I am utterly dismayed at your mass email, which I find deeply offensive. You are supporting another summer like the George Floyd summer - a summer of cancel culture. Let's look at what that BLM summer achieved that was positive. Nothing. The money that was raised went into the pockets of scammers, not to people who needed it.
We do NOT need more divisiveness in our country. This is all about the Democratic Party dividing people so they can prevail. I say this as a lifetime Democrat who left the party because it now disgusts me. I'm not a Republican. I'm an Independent.
You are ordering me - a customer - to behave politically the way you want. How dare you. Leave politics the hell out of our relationship which was, prior to your email, a very healthy business relationship. Because I buy from you to support sustainable regenerative local food. That is what you do best. Stick to it. Leave this other political crap where it belongs. In the trash.”
Well done. It is very reminiscent of "The Summer Of Love" pressuring people/ businesses to donate BLM and defund the police. That was a total scam and theit leaders just took the money and lives in a lavish house in the Valley.
Perfect, Polly. We "vote" on these critical matters in far more ways than the ballot box.
We vote with out feet, our pocketbooks, and sustained and strategic messaging too. How do their actions affect us directly, and eventually their own business model, as you just did with your excellent letter is far superior to telling them they are just plumb stupid. That is where our own numbers from the silent (or rather silenced) majority can still be heard.
Pol, I also received a notice about how to stop ICE - (from a different source). It included a rant about how we are all immigrants etc. We’re not all immigrants! My people came over here from Germany in the 1800’s as _settlers_, interested in contributing their intelligence, ability and civility towards helping this country grow and prosper.
Unlike the trash that’s now invading our beautiful America looking for a handout, they had the attitude that JFK promoted when he said “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
"They carried signs reading “gringo go home,” “Death to the neo‑colonizer,” and “My culture is not your trend,” explicitly targeting foreign residents and tourists, many of whom are American or European."
Congratulations Justin, on your revealing article. Too bad other local “news outlets” refuse to report these undeniable facts. Newsfakers? No, Roberts et al. are too busy blowing smoke and providing cover for the lefty establishment instead of doing their job, which is reporting the facts.
I find it reprehensible that my elected officials in Goleta chooses to give our hard earned tax dollars to NGO’s whose mission is to thwart Federal law enforcement.
As for the Ponzi scheme being played in LA County by Karen Bass, all I can say is Bernie Madoff would be proud! The homeowners in Pacific Palisades are being victimized for a second time, this time by their elected officials! There is already talk of adding low income, high density housing to PP. Further, Adam Carolla has reported in depth about this disaster. It would seem many houses were on septic tanks and it is Carolla’s belief that the California Coastal Commission will have much to say about the rebuilding of PP, making many rebuilds cost prohibitive. Enter the County of Los Angeles to “acquire” these properties for high density, low income housing.
When will our elected officials represent the rest of us, who play by the rules and pay the taxes?
This ongoing corruption and resistance by our elected officials pushes our State that much closer to societal and financial collapse.
Disgusting beyond belief-That’s all I can say!!! Until the “inmates stop running the prison” here in CA, the corruption will continue! Anyone with half a brain should see this!
Thank the Lord there are those in CA govt, Kevin Kiley & Carl DeMaio, who truly care about this state and are taking steps daily to right the storm of idiocy!
Subscribing to Rep Kevin Kiley's newsletter is a welcome breath of fresh air. He gets it and he acts on it. There is a fine future ahead for America with voices like his, still speaking truth to power. And the Democrat forces in this state are coming after him with heavy guns. Kevin Kiley does not blink.
Now Carpinteria City"Leaders" created an An Ad Hoc committee specifically for Immigrant issues.
What that means is they avoid any rules of The Brown Act and can do whatever the heck they want with Monica Solorazano,Iwho doesn't stand for the pledge of allegiance,as one of the 2 members.
They've also sent letters on issues such as requiring ICE to show their badge and faces.
Why isn't anyone in outrage that children were found on the farm and were trafficked and being abused. Investigations are still on going.
Not one leader is standing up for these children and or offering support. They are in total denial that this happened.
And all the libs are also denying it. I can't believe it and they justify it because they were tomatoes growing next to the pot. If that's the case it's still not legal for a 12 year old to be working on the farm.
Mayer, one of the committee mbers owns Dune Coffee,BTW. If they won't listen to us then we can come together and not support a business owner who doesn't support all Americans.
Like many guys who wear the American flag as a shirt, they are buying Jaguars. But Bud Light is hurting. But who cares - they're based in Belgium, right?
Good catch - a committee of 2 out of a 5 person Carpinteria council can avoid some of the Brown Act notice and disclosure requirements ,since they are not a "majority" of council members. Sleazy is the best description for this calculated and deceptive choice. Hold them to the fire. They are still elected officials subject to Brown Act sun-shining.
I'm all for ICE to show their badge and faces. And have a uniform uniform. Right now, they look like a bunch of narcos from Mexico that commandeered someone's car. Judges, police, and prison guards don't dress up like it's Halloween.
Yet, the protestors and Congressman did dox them, shoot at them and other violent tactics and you want them to show their faces and give out their badge number? Why are protestors allowed to wear masks?
You wore mask for COVID when others didn't want to so where was the support for those who wanted to make their own choices. Or the defunding of the police during BLM
This is all hogwash and if the cities would stop the violence, then maybe that could happen but it isn't.
Sounds like a bunch of excuses. I just scrolled through a 1/2 dozen pages of police in BLM protests on Getty images. Only a handful had masks, and all had their badges visible. That's how policing should be done.
I wasn't talking about BLM. I was talking about the present. Look at LA riots, recently and masks. Even at the Cannabis Farms people were wearing masks.
So if you demand a Federal Agent shouldn't be wearing masks then neither should the protestors who are attacking officers.
I watched the videos of all those agents as folks were shouting in their face and yelling at them with obcenities. As Salud pushed through the line of agents,oh it's on video, they asked him to move back. The agents attid there taking this from the "protestors" and stayed calm and did their jobs.
They were shot at and rocks were thrown at them.
So if you don't like that ICE,DHD and the DEA are doing their job with the danger and utmost professional to keep our country safe and to save children from trafficking, then you should probably vote to change the laws because this adminstration will not back down and allow any agent to be harmed.
We witnessed this aggression and hatred towards police seeing BLM. To me it seems like the left has a problem with authority and can't respect them. And then they call out to defund them or sue them and create some bill to show your badge.
If this was your job, would you want to show your face and your badge putting your family and yourself in serious danger. with the current state of the violence aginst our agents.
Let them do the job to protect our country from 22 million illegal aliens who entered the country illegaly. Non were vetted and let me tell you countries when they want to get rid of criminals will send them to other countries. The people who were leaving their country were leaving because, most,to avoid prosecution in their countries.
Great piece. Disgusting the way these preening left/libs carry on … and with our money.
Fun story: I had an uncle in NYC who for years, back in the ‘50s and early ‘60s, was a raging leftist. The mid-‘60s came along and he eagerly signed up as a caseworker for one of the newly created, lavishly funded (thanks LBJ! thanks, John Lindsay!) welfare agencies. Within only a couple of years he gave up his leftism and became a raging rightie. Why? Because he’d now seen the reality of welfare. For one thing, the clients … In his estimation, half the people being given welfare were cheaters — people with mysterious “back problems,” for instance, who could manage a round of golf fine but who claimed they couldn’t get through a day of office work. For another thing, the welfare establishment itself. My uncle saw zero real efforts being made to get people off welfare. In fact, it was clear that the bureaucrats wanted ever more people ON welfare. Why? Because it ensured that their own jobs were secure — and what the welfare workers were *really* about was that sweet government paycheck and those even sweeter government bennies.
Sadly, left or right, my uncle never stopped raging. That just seemed to be part of his character.
These are the results when you have decades of unchecked one party rule. It’s time for the pendulum to swing back. Articles like this one help to inform. I know you’re saying, the California public is too stupid to understand, or unwilling to read such an article, but we still must try and put everything possible out there in front of them in the hopes that they will see it. I just don’t think they will believe it until it smacks them in the side of the head like it has the Democratic voting libs of Pacific Palisades.
You’re whistling Dixie Brian. You gotta know that if it took brains to breath the average chump walking down the street in California would drop dead. All the Commie-Dems care about is the smug little thrill they get from revelling in their righteousness.
Justin, your clear voice highlighting these critical public issues is so very welcome. These are the topics that need to be in the public debate arena; not shut down by the current noisy, highly-organized self-serving activists with their canned talking points which has become the norm in our local public forums of late. Thank you.
Casa De La Raza's long past history of reckless financial mismanagement would not make this operation a good first line donation choice for anything. Follow the money, indeed.
Tax deductibility of donations to "charities" and "NGOs" should be banned. Most are either inherently political or corrupt nest-feathering ops. If the donor is in a 40% total bracket, he pays 60% of the donation and everyone else in society pays the other 40%, which is then used against us.
IMO, the most destructive ones are "conservation" and "environmental" land trusts like Nature Conservancy. They use tax-deductible donations and public money to buy private land, then lock the public out of it or control access without their permission, decreasing the supply of private land and jacking up its cost. Essentially they use public money for private use - their own.
It is all one big grift. The progressives will first identify an appealing cause. Then they will direct money and power to their supporters ( NGOs, attorneys, and donors). Then, when we point out the grift, they will accuse us of opposing the goal.
Leave it to Newsome to destroy another community. After the Paradise Fires and subsequent fires it is no longer a coincidence that he is vying for a land grab.
And behold the outcome has presented itself as a resolution for housing problem.
Paradise was more for the High Speed Train to nowhere, which has been defunded by Trump.
Fire Aid should be investigated and the people of LA need to come together and fight against this corrupt politician.
Write it and submit to them. Im sure there is a lot you can write about that people may or may not agree with. I’ve been focused on local politics for the last 7 years so would not be the best person to write it.

Someone else said this best:
This country was built by Settlors. Immigrants came later to take advantage of what the Settlors had already built.
I'd like to know which company did that so I can avoid buying anything from them.
"Bravo, Justin. California is a great place to be homeless, an illegal, a heroin addict or a lawyer."
It's bad that it's good for a homeless person to be here? Huh. Weird. "The last shall be the first-"
"The least among you all [who] is the greatest."
Theo, in the Special meeting tomorrow, they might take the money for the homeless and give it to the illegals :o

Excellent. The "official" government version of the state "sun-shining" Brown Act, per 2003: https://oag.ca.gov/system/files/media/the-brown-act.pdf
Good reminder for us all to read it and know our rights and their duties. And point out where amendments may still be necessary from 2003 (?).
great stuff guys!

Not to be insensitive but how many actual victims do we have on the coast from the raids that would require money to be diverted to them.
Tons of donations going to Casa De La Raza. What if someone else needs this charity can they get it too.
So many folks are struggling financially here.
What a Shame that our City " Leaders" are not supporting all their constituents
I hope people rember this at the ballot box.
