What an incompetent clown our Governor has become. Has he yet addressed the illegal immigrant who just killed 3 people in Florida, with a big rig after illegally receiving his California CDL? Yes, our “Guv” comes from a long line of grifters, Daddy Newsom was a “Bagman” for J. Paul Getty. And now he wants to further stack the deck against Republicans? Couple this with the sad state we find ourselves in, burned down communities, record deficits, record spending on illegals, says a lot about those who are protesting on our streets about “threats to democracy!”

Senior Whitehouse Adviser, Stephen Miller scolded lefty hecklers yesterday, after VP Vance and he were visiting National Guard troops stationed in DC.

Miller went on to fire back at the unruly, classless group referring to them as “Old White Hippies,” “In their 90’s.” I thought to myself, huh, that’s exactly the crowd we’re dealing with here in SB. We see this as evidenced by some of the demented, feeble, leftist comments made here. What is wrong with these people? Too much “Windowpane” back in the day? Seriously, this crew is giving Seniors a bad name! What part about public safety, reducing crime, and avoiding bankruptcy do they not comprehend? They scream about Ukraine, but are against Trump’s peace efforts? I thought they were the party of peace and love? So, next time you see these tie-dyed burn outs, waving their freak flags on Hope, just ignore them, keep driving and try not to gesture!

The problem with Newsome is he has a huge megaphone that even when he tells lies, people listen. The Republicans need to get their Megaphones out and and make it clear that the Dems have gerrymandered for years, especially California and they just don’t like it when the Republicans finally came back and fight fire with fire!

Watched a historical recount of what happened in Pre-WWII Italy.

It was and is striking to see the phrasing and video stance of Newsom compared to Il Duche.

This is a governor who has directed dozens of lawsuits against the Federal Government / Trump. This is a State that has illegal RHNA, a failed 10's of Billions High Speed Rail, created a state that has a serious inflation, and unemployment rate.

Mussolini videos look today as a clown. But watch Newsom stances and wording and then do a comparison. It should be chilling.

One only has to look at what has happened to Republicans and district lines to see that the other side is running scared because they are losing.

When the private sector is losing jobs and the only reason there appears to be job creation is because "government" is expanding at the taxpayers expense. Then you have the typical gov. payola.

Why do you think so many illegals come to Calif.? It isn't for the private sector jobs.

Good Lord Elaine. I noticed you identified Texas but blew by the most gerrymandered states such as MA, IL and NY. I realize partisanship is a fact of life, but good grief.

I agree that gerrymandering should be abolished. Congressional seats should be geographically compressed by and large with only US citizens used in that equation.

I agree. I’m against gerrymandering everywhere. That said, Texas is a power grab. Redistricting takes place every 10 years, not now…and NOT at the whim and demand of the President. I’m amazed at the response to Newsome’s parody of Trump…newscasters on Fox especially. The way Trump talks about people he doesn’t like or agree with is worse than an angry, drug addled teen. He is the most disrespectful human on the public stage. Even Putin doesn’t do that.

I think you diminish your point somewhat because of your unabashed contempt for Trump (TDS?). Trump may not be "diplomatic" in his language...to some....however that is irrelevant to the subject.

Do you not have a problem with Newsom and his effort to upend redistricting in this state...which is already controlled by Democrats? I assume you do.

I am encouraged by your watching FOX News. While I have some issues w/ FOX, at least we are exposed to documented facts that are censored by the mainstream media...i.e., endemic corruption in the FBI and CIA.

Defending Governor Newsom’s Stand Against Gerrymandering

Governor Gavin Newsom is right to sound the alarm on gerrymandering. At its core, this practice strips voters of fair representation by allowing politicians to manipulate district lines to entrench power rather than letting voters choose their leaders.

California has been a national model for reform by turning redistricting over to an independent citizen-led commission for the last two decades. This structure ensures that voters — not politicians — determine representation. Governor Newsom’s letter reaffirms this principle: he is not calling for partisan map-rigging but warning that if other states dismantle democratic fairness, California will not sit idle while democracy is destabilized.

The criticism that his words amount to a “threat” misses the point. Newsom is defending the Founders’ vision of representative democracy. His warning is a counterweight to states like Texas and Florida, where hyper-partisan gerrymanders are being rushed through mid-decade specifically to tilt the 2026 midterms before a single vote is cast. That is the true threat to the integrity of elections.

Yes, his press office used strong language — but democracy itself is at stake. Courts have already ruled against extreme gerrymanders, yet the problem persists. When one side rigs maps, the damage spreads nationally because congressional balance affects every state. In that context, Governor Newsom’s urgency is both appropriate and necessary.

Fair representation should never depend on who holds power. It should reflect the will of the voters. By pushing back against gerrymandering, Governor Newsom is standing up for a principle that should unite Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike: that elections must be decided by the people, not by political mapmaking.

CA is a national model for reform? By what standard? Republicans are 38% of the vote and just 17% of the reps. Think that’s a coincidence? Look at the map of our (SB) district and tell me with a straight face it’s not gerrymandered.

Registered Republicans are about 25% of California’s voters - not 38%. Trump did get 38% of the CA presidential vote in 2024 due to independents. But yes, 25% of the population and 17% of the representatives is not equal.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics. Which is not to say the percentages you quote are wrong, only that in order to understand them they need to be backed up by demographics. For example, if Mass. has 36% Republican votes but 0 Republican representatives it could be rigged, but it could also be that those 36% are more or less uniformly spread throughout the state so that there would be no way to provide a district with a Republican majority other than through extreme gerrymandering. On the other side, the liberal essayist Heather Cox Richardson quotes an analysis of Texas districting that claims it takes about 455,000 white voters to elect a representative, 1,400,000 Latino voters, and 2,000,000 black voters.

Burton, Massachusetts is not alone in having a significant percentage vote republicans but zero republican representatives as this also is true in other states such as Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire. No comment on anything Ms. Richardson says or writes.

I should add that I was bothered by Newsom, while demanding that Trump stay out of California politics, is threatening to penalize Californian republicans if Trump does NOT stay out of Texas politics. That should offend all Californians. A second issue is that the statistics of many blue states, including California, indicate that they have already Gerrymandered.

Newsom can do whatever he wants but someone on his staff should tell him this type of parody is not going to endear him to independent voters who are getting hammered living in the state he has spectacularly mismanaged.

The new Texas maps show people of color make up 60% of the population of Texas, but the new maps would put white voters in charge of at least 26 of the state’s 38 districts. According to Texas state representative Vince Perez, it will take about 445,000 white residents to secure a member of Congress, but about 1.4 million Latino residents or 2 million Black residents to elect one.

This country is right royally messed up. Partizanship is ruining a once great shining beacon in the world for a better world.

Be truthffull Texas is dirty and so is California over jerrymandering. But here is the big but California being clean suits people of red persuasion, so just partizanship.

Not sure I understand your point. Clearly not every citizen of the country will be equally represented. Reread Brent's article. That's the way the system is designed... unfortun

Gerrymandering is (usually) actually antihetical to each citizen being "equally represented". The party in power in any particular state has the ability ensure there is not equal representation. In the case of Massachusetts, it's a winner take all situation. It's unfortunate, but that's the way the constitution is written and that's the way the game is played. When it comes to congressional representation, each individual citizen is not represented.

Observe the perpetually disgraceful Newsom today... He is loud and proud about his ability to make sure there will be zero representation for the 38% of Republican voters in this state. Texas is doing something similar...reactionary to the national data. Of course people are fleeing this state...and flocking to Texas.

If you really have an interest in the topic, dig deep a bit and you'll see statistically Democrats are about to jump off a cliff in the gerrymandering game. The numbers are not on there side.

You have a president who is trying to steal the election before it even happens. He doesn’t even have any shame about ordering them to gerrymander their districts He is suggesting to red states to gerrymander districts, so they can gain more representation, he is doing it because he is afraid and insecure. He is afraid of losing his power. I’d be more worried about taco than our governor in California.

taco is gaining more and more power every day, and even using our military to help him. Before the end of his term, I’d be willing to bet we will be under martial law with the military in every big city in the United States of America policing the citizens. He wants to stay in power. Not to be president, but to be king of everything he surveys. He doesn’t like the duties of the president to lead and take care of their people, all he wants is people to do his bidding, whatever it may be.

One military personnel said he had signed up to defend his country, not police its citizens.

taco wants his name on everything it’s like branding, to show ownership. He would like to live on 1600 Trump Ave., He would like the capital of the United States of America be Trump, DC., he would absolutely love United States of Trump.
