Good subject and article. We are libertarians as a whole. Basically live and let live as long as you don't interfere with the rights of others.

NPR has become a State run propaganda machine that loss its perspective or mission to inform people. We stopped following or watching any reporting or documentary from them decades ago. Their promotion of arts and philanthropy is to be commented but there is always the inserted message of collectivism.

Thanks for the article. Read it first thing this morning.

Live and let live is not a good means to live by, it allows degneracy to persist because it isn't directly causing visible harm. Libertarianism conserves nothing, not even the right of the unborn to live in some cases.

OHHH! The "unborn"... ahhh what a propagandist right wing term. Easy to advocate for that... oh so convenient. They never make demands of you, they are morally uncomplicated like the incarcerate, the addicted or the chronically poor. They don't resent your condescension or complain that you are not "politically correct". Unlike widows, they don't ask you to question the patriarchy, unlike orphans they don't need money, food, education or childcare. Unlike illegal aliens, they don't bring all that racial, cultural and religious baggage along with them. They allow you to feel good about yourself without doing any meaningful work or spending any meaningful amounts of money to feed and clothe them. and when they are born you can forget about them because they cease to be "unborn". It's almost as if by being born they have died to you. You can claim to love the unborn without ever having to substantially challenge your politics your wealth, your privilege or your power without having to reimagine social structures, apologizing or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect "people" to love if you want to claim you love Jesus but actually dislike people who breathe.

Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick, the poor? Wiidows, orphans? All the groups that are mentioned specifically in the Bible? Oh, let's not forget homosexuals and trans people... They all get thrown under the bus for the "unborn". What a bunch of MALARKEY!

There have been numerous attempts to pass legislation which would cut off all public subsidies ($90 million) for NPR. They all fail because Democrats like it. The only way to rectify this situation is for Republicans and fair-minded Dems to win more elections. Until that happens NPR will continue to do whatever it feels like. It's also interesting that many corporations fund them, such as Allstate Ins, AT&T, Ford, Quaker Oats, Master Card, Espn, Intel, HBO, etc. The list is too long to cite all of them. You might take this into consideration the next time you patronize them.

NPR should be free to do and say whatever they wish...BUT, they should not receive one penny from our Government (aka the American taxpayer). It's never been a source of neutral, fair, or unbias news reporting and should stand, or die, on their ability to attract an audience that is willing to support them (like all the other stations). It's simply another example of our Government using taxpayer money to do things outside their stated purpose. Blessings

Excellent article...please recognize that NPR is a small outlet, BUT part of the larger State-Controlled propaganda machine...ALL of the Legacy Media is controlled & used to broadcast their ideals & lead the minds of the masses as they attempt to collapse Our Country (and The World)…

Fascism (forcible suppression of opposition) has now saturated Our Great Nation with Censorship (omnipresent systems of censoring) in order to control their Narratives (ways of presenting or understanding a situation or series of events that promotes a particular point of view)…ALL of the Legacy Media is being used to in order for their Projection (attribution of one's own ideas, feelings, or attitudes to other people)…

fortunately, the Dogma (points of view put forth as authoritative without adequate grounds) is now recognized by most...

Hi Jonathan, here in SB I can pick up only several AM stations: two weak ones from San Francisco, three from LA and three from here. One here is the NPR station, which I tune in to regularly. Furthermore, I can identify immediately that station from its world access to the frequent BBC reporting, odd topics and NO commercials (which I like). I listen to their left wing slant, etc. on political topics (like I listen to CNN) because I want to know what they're reporting, too.

George Washington (1732-99) was commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War (1775-83) and served two terms as the first U.S. president, from 1789 to 1797. The son of a prosperous planter, Washington was raised in colonial Virginia. As a young man, he worked as a surveyor then fought in the French and Indian War (1754-63)."

Why is democracy a good thing?

Expand full comment
Steven Jonathan Rummelsburg's avatar

Exactly! Read the Republic by Plato carefully to see how democracy ends- we are supposed to be a representative republic. As John Adams said "the constitution was made for a religious and moral society, any other would break through its cords like a whale through a net." (from memory maybe not precise) and we should heed D'Tocqueville who warns us of the tyranny of the masses.

We share a heart for sure- but I will take it one step further, I don't think any form of government creates anything- I do think there are forms of government that are better than others- and the US is a hetero-theocracy- 300 million self-proclaimed gods living by their own lights and self-arrogated laws- and the democratic left in concert with RINOS are doing everything they can to legitimize the theocracy of self-worship.

One thing is for sure, there is no government that not religious- the material atheists are the most religious of all- but I do share your mind, Holy Mother Church's Eterna Law through Divine Law and that law written on our hearts are the laws in which we must all abide.

I am glad you are here Theotokos!!!

Metanoïa The Greek term μετάνοια is composed of the preposition μετά (that which exceeds, encompasses, puts above) and the verb νοέω (to perceive, to think, to conceive); it means a "change of view", a "transformation of the mind", a "reversal of thought". The corresponding verb, μετανοεῖν, means “to change one's way of seeing things”. That is to say, conceiving ideas by going beyond the limitations of the model of the world, in respect to those limitations induced by mental programming that works mechanically, without having been reviewed or updated.(1)

Its seems we have an independent thinker posting.
