I fully support walkouts, in fact, here is how much I support them: I think all the parents who have not been indoctrinated by Leftist ideology should (using their parental powers of persuasion--and hopefully who have not lost their children to the brainwashing of the schools) encourage their kids to walkout of the public schools--permanently. That's right, using another Leftist talking point I support "De-fund"--as in this case--the public schools. Yes, no students filling up the chairs means the funds dry up and those wonderful (sarcasm) teachers and administrators suddenly suffer a public relations nightmare. Then, the parents can toss them a bone: stop with the indoctrination, then START to actually teach kids to read, write, and most importantly--HOW to think, not just to regurgitate guilt trip and sexual grooming these fine upstanding pillars of the community (more sarcasm) have been pumping into their brains for decades.
When the teachers/paper-pushers see their food bowls shrinking let's see if they are still willing to support this totalitarian programming cloaked as "tolerance".
I love your idea. I would fire most teachers, staff and administration. This will reduce the scent of Marxism in our schools. Their ideology will never change nor will their goal with our childrens indoctrination. Really their termination will ultimately be appreciated as enabling them to rise in the ranks of leftism by achieving the rank of victim. It would really be a favor since much of modern education develops marginalized groups with a welcome home in the Democrat party. Through affirmitave action, new staff will be registered Republicans.
Since the Democrat Party is 100% on board with the teachers unions, indoctrinating new Democrat-voting supporters easily becomes job one for our large tax dollar commitment to "public education".
Former Gov Jerry Brown admitted the state teachers unions were the unelected "fourth branch" of our state government and he never made a move without their prior consultation.
Prop 98 guarantees 50% of all state general revenues goes off the top directly to public education. In return, California get this unenviable #44 ranking nation wide. How far our once-admirable state public education system has fallen.
In fact, on average teachers make well over $100k for their 9 month working year. They are also free to take other employment during their 3 month off time, including teaching summer sessions.
Stop the myth their "take-home pay" represents their only compensation, for their nine month work year.
Their unions negotiate their pensions and benefits too, which are also fully funded by our tax dollars which makes up their total compensation package. Please, facts in the future; not an agenda driven misrepresentations.
Benefits packages add approximately $34,000 more to the "average teacher salaries". For their 9 month year. Benefit packages are untaxed and are negotiated by their representative unions and the school district.
(NB: Administrators typically work a 12 month year so their compensation packages look higher, but in fact are not when calculated on an hourly rate for 12 months; not just nine months.)
We do support strong education in this community and want good teachers for our students. But was also want value for the dollars currently committed to this essential public task.
I read this good article by Mr. Campbell, desribing in SB some of the beginning
events in Nazi Germany in the 1930's and I quote "Why does Santa Barbara refuse to allow this student’s expression supporting an American ally, supporting people currently being persecuted across the country? The student has spoken directly to the Vice Principal, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent. In response to the student’s repeated requests and an Op-Ed describing his personal experience and firsthand conversations with the school’s principal, the District sent a threatening attorney letter directly to the minor to persuade him to not to continue defending his Constitutional rights.
The Student was lucky he was not arrested that is how the Nazis dealt with those that spoke out against pure evil in Germany. Welcome to Santa Barbara home of the free............. so you all thought.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I don't need to re-hash what happened in 1973, (the horrible accident) however, I'd like to share this: After about 10 years of not being in the racing scene, Salt/David (However you called him) came within an eyelash of qualifying for the Indy 500, and literally at the last minute was "bumped" by Rocky Moran. To come that close to making the race only to have it snatched from him had to have been devestating, and he would have had every right to stamp his feet and storm away, but instead, he ran over to Moran, congratulated him, hugged him, and was the perfect gentleman. THAT is how he should be remembered, not by the personal struggles he dealt with after his near-fatal accident in 1973. (He also had issued a very nice tribute to another David: one David "Swede" Savage, whose daughter Angela and I are Facebook friends, after Swede succumbed to his injuries suffered in the 1973 race. R.I.P. to both those men.
"Wally Dallenbach, a respected INDYCAR SERIES race winner as a driver and longtime series official dedicated to racing safety, died April 29. He was 87."
We would fly out to Indy every year like clockwork.
The author writes that "The neighboring country’s military group – Hamas, a terrorist organization – invaded a U.S. ally and proceeded to rape and murder unarmed civilians and take some 200 hostages from children to adults."
Referring to Gaza and the West Bank as a "country" is part of the problem. The Palestinians have been stateless for over 75 years awaiting the ever elusive "two state solution." The Hamas terrorists rule Gaza with an iron fist. When they took over several years ago they (like the Nazis) murdered or drove out their political opposition. As the author correctly states, those Hamas terrorists then crossed the border into Israel and murdered innocent people and took hostages. Israel, under the rule of the radical Likud Party, responded with a "collective punishment" of the population of Gaza that has killed another 34,000+ innocent people and destroyed their homes and infrastructure.
This is not a "war" between Israel and Gaza, it is a struggle between the Hamas terrorists and the very unpopular Netanyahu and his Likudnik allies. It should be called the "Hamas-Likud War" (or "Likud-Hamas War") and just leave the Israeli and Palestinian people out of it. PRO-Palestinian and PRO-Israel supporters should be marching and protesting peacefully TOGETHER. Sadly, both factions have been poisoned by violent ANTI-Palestinian and ANTI-Israel hoodlums and their rhetoric.
The conflicts started way before Hamas and before Netanyahu. 6,000 years there have been wars over there.
2006 Hamas won the legislative elections. “ Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was nominated to form a new government. The new government with Haniyeh as Prime Minister was sworn in”
But the point, especially with Ukraine still going on, why doesn’t the US & College idiots support Israel in squashing Hamas to free Palestinians? We are supporting Ukrainians to fight against the “tyranny of Russia “
Instead they are attacking Israel & Jews even though Hamas kills gays, rapes women and would kill all these college students as infadels.
Why do the Democrats want to see Israel and Jews killed? What’s the big picture?
Hate speech? To curb the First Amendment so they can “legally” censor opposing views this election year and in the future.
Muslims largely didn't care about the West until we started interfering in their nations. I don't like Islam, but before we got involved in foreign wars they never did anything to us.
And Hamas doesn't just kill everyone they encounter that isn't Muslim, Palestinian Christians aren't under threat of eradication from anything Hamas is doing, they face eradication from Israel and the actions of the IDf. Hamas literally called out Israel for the IDF shooting at two Christian women and killing them, that's not something people who hate Christians do.
Theo: That's not right and certainly not something we had anything to do with. I'm also unaware of a Substack policy that would embrace such censorship, so I still don't understand what happened. Please explain further.
Shameful and if a parent took out a lawsuit they would win. My thoughts our that none of this belongs in Public schools. The only thing that schools should be doing is teaching subjects that relate to advancing their academic knowledge. . No indoctrination. No teaching of a girl being a boy etc. And parents need to be included in anything that the student is involved in besides their academics.
It's hopeless. The only solution is school choice and vouchers. Allow families to send their kids to schools not run by the Democratic Party and school unions. Anything else will fail.
HR 6090 “Antisemitism Awareness Act” just passed and is on its next phase to becoming law.
The Democrats are destroying the First Amendment under the false narrative of “hate speech”
European nations passed laws prohibiting hate speech. Europeans protested against this , most notably JK Rowling is fighting against these “hate speech” laws.
January the WEF predicted America would change the First Amendment and pass a “hate speech”” provision where they will declare what is hate speech.
Here at SBUSD they purposefully only allow Democrat propaganda to be published and displayed on school grounds and newspapers. I personally have been pushing back against the inaccurate and one sided articles from student puppets. To which the District ignores, hoping you will go away.
The current story with the Israel flags and OpEd from a student continues to develop. The latest about the students OpEd is the Principal said his rejection “ involved issues over the inaccuracy of his characterizations of the Israel-Hamas conflict”
First off, the Principal is forcing his “characterization” , his own opinion upon someone else and not allowing the student to express his free speech.
Two, the Principal is incorrect, the students article is accurate about the attack.
Three, the school never fact checks any article written. Read any political article from any of the high schools and you will see an extremely biased and inaccurate reiteration of Corporate Media lies.
Our schools are grooming our kids to be the next college idiot advocating for terrorist organizations that rake and murder unarmed civilians. You won’t see that in a school paper.
To be clear, Hamas won the 2006 election. Hamas was voted into power by the Palestinians. Just as Joe Biden’s actions and words reflect directly upon every American, Hamas terrorist activities reflect directly upon their people. If America thinks Hamas is unjust, why doesn’t America go in and overthrow the Gaza government in the name of Democracy as they have repeatedly done throughout history. Why did we give Ukraine $75 billion and just approved to send another $60billion. But we won’t help the Palestinians?
Parents, Santa Barbara, wake up. SBUSD is influencing your children with only Democrat viewpoints and they are using your kids to push one side and purposefully squashing any student who is a free thinker and wanting to express opposing view points, expressing their protected First Amendment rights.
Prediction: in due time, "gender dysphoria" will be banned as a term because "dysphoria" will be considered a negative connotation. Same prediction per "Native American", because "America" is derived from Italian explorer Amerigo Verspucci, and in the eyes of the Left, Europeans are automatically bad.
I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding the recent events surrounding freedom of speech and expression at Santa Barbara High School (SBHS).
It has come to my attention that a student's repeated attempts to exercise their First Amendment rights have been met with resistance and censorship from the school administration.
As a parent/community member, I firmly believe in upholding the principles of free speech and expression, as enshrined in our Constitution. It is disheartening to learn that a student's request to display Israeli flags on school grounds, in conjunction with an Op-Ed addressing a significant global issue, was denied on the grounds of being "potentially disruptive."
Furthermore, it is troubling to see a pattern of selective enforcement and bias in the administration's handling of student expression.
While certain viewpoints seem to be censored or suppressed, others are allowed to flourish without hindrance. This one-sided approach not only undermines the spirit of academic freedom but also sets a dangerous precedent for silencing dissenting voices.
The California Education Code clearly states that pupils of public schools have the right to exercise freedom of speech and of the press, with limitations only on materials that incite substantial disruption of the orderly operation of the school. It is incumbent upon school officials to justify any limitations on student expression promptly and without undue delay.
Additionally, the recent actions taken by the school district, including sending threatening legal letters to the student in question, are deeply concerning and raise serious questions about the commitment to protecting students' constitutional rights.
It is imperative that SBHS and the Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) reevaluate their approach to student expression and ensure that all voices are heard and respected, regardless of their political or ideological affiliations.
As a community, we must strive to create an environment where diverse perspectives are welcomed and encouraged, fostering critical thinking and civil discourse among students.
I urge you to address these issues promptly and transparently, and to reaffirm SBHS's commitment to upholding the principles of free speech and expression for all students.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen of the United States of America
It seems hopeless for conservatism when considering how far our youth has swung to the left. A product of the indoctrination our children receive in exchange for an education. I read that only 18% of Americans age 18 - 35 were extremely proud to be American. This does not surprise me. What does surprise me is that the majority of this same demographic now supports Trump over Biden. I'll bet the teachers hate that. The pendulum does swing and perhaps our youth will decide to reject what they are being fed.
Conservatism has failed to conserve anything, conservatives just allow things to progress (further deteriorate) and focus mostly one economic issues. Sure they might be against something pretty awful, but they will allow things to incrementally become more degenerate until the thing they once called out no longer seems as bad.
People 18-35 prefer Trump? I think you got the colors mixed up on the bar charts. Pew has the 2020 exit polls as 35% Trump 62% dem for 18-29 year olds.
I really wish folks would cite something - even newsmax
John Thomas, I abhor the pasting of search results to support ones narriative. Have you not found that you can support anything with a google link? If you persist your internet queries you might discover that Trump's support among the younger demographic is improving while interestingly it appears to be waning among older voters. You might also discover that polls tend to vary far beyond their stated limits of error. With a little persistence you will find that many if not most polls today (not 2020) find that Trump is leading Biden in the 18 - 34 demographic. This shift is startling if not stunning. Please does anyone here have a rubber sheath?
I didn't realize that Statista was part of the great deep state or commie takeover. Time to put your big boy pants on and do some deductive reasoning to filter out stuff on the web. Or continue to make up your own desired reality - sorry if it doesn't relate to the world today. And feel free to mock my name. That's one thing you have in common with the real world.
That is quite interesting. Things have changed a lot in a four years. Don't self hate too much I appreciate the information and will think differently on the topic.
Based on California law, unless something is liable or creates substantial disruption, student journalists have editorial control over what they choose to publish. The principal cannot compel or prohibit the publishing of material or require prior restraint. So perhaps the student editors of this school's paper do not want to publish this op-ed? It's not really their duty to do so nor is it violating the student's first amendment as it's not his/her publication. It would be like me demanding the editors of this publication publish my op-ed. Still having said that, it's important for the advisor to teach/instruct his/her student editors that if you are going to permit op-ed to be submitted, there are benefits to making that forum a place to exchange ideas/views that may not be held by themselves.
Excellent article...sad to see that Fascism (forcible suppression of opposition) has now saturated our public schools with Censorship (systems of censoring) & controlled Narratives (ways of presenting or understanding a situation or series of events that promotes a particular point of view)…all in order for their Projection (attribution of one's own ideas, feelings, or attitudes to other people)…the Dogma (points of view put forth as authoritative without adequate grounds) is over the top...
unfortunately, their Fascist tactics permeate all of our public squares...
I've not heard of anyone being "banned" from posting something critical of Israel. We do take a firm pro-Israel stand at the Current, but we allow – as we always do for any issue – opposing viewpoints. In fact, we encourage them. How else is anyone going to even begin to understand the other side of any issue? What the Current is doing is presenting another side that is often squelched, but that doesn't mean we "censor" anyone. We don't. Unless, of course, it's Rosie O'Donnell... No, wait, I'm kidding....
I got banned from posting on this substack after making posts that were critical of Israel and the IDF. I had to appeal to Substack to have it removed. I see no other reason why my account would be banned aside from my criticism of Israel given how so many evangelicals and mainstream conservatives support the nation.
Banned by whom? I would love to see the offending verbiage. Banned by the Current or banned on Substack? In my experience any opinion is accepted if it is presented respectfully and thoughtfully. You know a lot of conscripted Russian boys are being killed by Ukranian opressors. Where is your criticism of Ukraine for the indelicacy of defending themselves? On the plus side you are now a victim and can claim an elevated status.
Unable to post for a few days, had to appeal to substack to do so again. Don't know if someone reported me for being critical of Israel or if some moderator directly did so but who knows.
And Russia invaded Ukraine chief, indeed Zelensky seemingly downplayed the possibility of a Russian invasion prior to the outbreak. Putting is throwing twns of thousands of men at Ukraine and for what, to have more young men dead? To kill Christians so that the Patriarch Kiril can have authority over Ukranian Orthodox Christians?
I fully support walkouts, in fact, here is how much I support them: I think all the parents who have not been indoctrinated by Leftist ideology should (using their parental powers of persuasion--and hopefully who have not lost their children to the brainwashing of the schools) encourage their kids to walkout of the public schools--permanently.

But who will you get to replace them? I think teachers make what 80k/year? Good luck.
Enrollments are declining locally. Many schools personnel will not need to be replaced, in the face of declining enrollments.
Transparent California tells you exactly how much each teacher costs tax payers. There is no reason for you to only guess at their tax-payer funded compensation. It has long been public information for all to see. https://transparentcalifornia.com/agencies/salaries/school-districts/#santa-barbara-county

Exactly. This needs to stop now.

Hello,
I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding the recent events surrounding freedom of speech and expression at Santa Barbara High School (SBHS).

I mean I got banned from posting on this site for being critical of Israel and supporting the Palestinian cause and yet that's okay
Free speech only matters on the right if you support Israel I guess.
