Are parents or politicians responsible for children’s health?
That was a question in California.
Then on March 2, 2026, the United States Supreme Court in Mirabelli v Bonta settled the question.
The Court decided that Lisa Mirabelli and other schoolteachers in Escondido, California, could use the legal system to challenge the Attorney General of California, Ron Bonta, as he represented the actions of the California legislature and governor.
The Court agreed with Ms. Mirabelli that parents should be permitted to receive information from schools about their children’s records and health.
The history of the case also demonstrated the philosophical split between the Republican and Democratic political parties.
