To even for a moment consider as rational and sane the idea to remove an "unwanted population" is to lose ones humanity. By what standard do you determine which population is "unwanted"? This is the kind of thinking we claim was the mentality of the Nazis that we take great national pride in having vanquished.
The Bacchanalian frenzy over "getting tired of winning" against so many tyrannical and frankly evil agendas is going to the heads of too many of us who have had to watch powerlessly one dehumanizing abuse after another: discrimination against white men, resources for people who illegally entered the country while Americans are passed over in their time of need, male athletes pounding female ones because they pretend to be women, drag queen story hour, abortion up until birth, impunity for violent criminals, a wide open border, and the list goes on.
Trump promised to stand against some of these, close the border, bring jobs home and to bring the peace dividend by ending the wasteful and counterproductive foreign wars.
Trump has made good on some of his promises with executive orders and executive power. The border seems to be much more secure and there is some enforcement against undocumented people who are breaking additional laws. There are at least statements against declaring a changed gender and there is at least an exposure of the abuse of tax payer funds to push depraved social agendas on people in other countries. We will see how far the house cleaning will go. All of this is welcome as we have seen so much lawlessness and engineered chaos.
But Trump is taking steps that are likely to bring us into a much more serious war with Iran, now allied with Russia. He has surrounded himself with ideologues who do not know or care about the realities of the Middle East. Many in the US don't realize how unpopular the US policies in Ukraine have been and are serving to unite the world in creating an alternative economic block that undermines US influence. Most Americans have no idea about the roots of the conflict in Israel and Palestine and get a very one sided picture of the conflict. The rest of the world sees the other side and is appalled by the US willingness to arm and fund Israel to starve and bomb 10's of thousands of women and children of a population that has no formal army to defend itself.
The US could be using its power to bolster international law and norms to promote trade and mutual cooperation over a might makes rights mo in the world. But Trump seems to be taking the latter path. This is a very dangerous and shortsighted strategy and he needs to be reminded that his mandate was to end conflict and work for peace.
We need to sober up or we will wake up tomorrow with much regret.
Aimee, routing out government waste, inefficiency and frank partisan insubordination is not "tyrannical and frankly evil". Save that talk for only those losing their places at the taxpayer-funded piggy trough.
Noted name error and changed. But Trump's message all along has been "I am gonna kick butt", not some ephemeral Barry Soetoro word salad about "mutual cooperation". We shall differ here.
I never supported the US being required to be the world's policeman carrying the big stick at one time either, but then I realized there were no viable alternatives. Trump has always believed in mutual interests negotiating. Bring it on.
I think your question is valid as to who decides which side of the conflict should be supported by the U.S. and the answer may be in the amount of money that certain lobbyists provide to politicians.
You certainly have a unique way of connecting-the-dots in a non-logical way. Let's look at logic. It's logical to separate the Palestinians that hate the Israel people and eventually die from wars. Right? Of course, it's logical or "common sense" to displace the warmongers, such as the Palestinians which can assimilate into other countries. Do you know who cleverly assimilated into countries that they conquered? It was the Vikings that often took up a conquered country's language, customs and religion. Assimilation could be used by the Palestinians wherever they go. Yes, there will be no more Palestinians by name as there are no countries with people called Vikings ... because they assimilated. I'm part assimilated Viking having assimilated in Normandy, France and England and later Scottland and some making it to Massachusetts. Forget about the "ethnic cleansing," it's only in your mind. There's lots of land out there in the world.
Early Zionists thought they could forget about the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in 1948 facilitated by atrocities and massacres like at Tantura and Deir Yassin. A lot of effort has been put into trying to silence that history. But one early Zionist terrorist was more honest about the situation. If you have never read Jabotinsky's short essay _The Iron Wall_ you can see how he predicts the current impasse. He was a terrorist, but at least he was honest about some important things. https://en.jabotinsky.org/media/9747/the-iron-wall.pdf The most important thing you do not understand is that the Palestinians have been pushed around and treated as deserving no rights for 80 years wherever they go, including in the US. They know that if they can be brushed away from their property and land and rights like dust in their homeland, they can be brushed away like dust just as easily anywhere else. So they will fight to the death to exist in their land as human beings. Call it terrorism if you like, but they did not start this conflict and they did not initiate terrorism in this conflict. If you think Israeli Jews matter and Palestinian Christians and Muslims don't, then just say that. I consider that morally repugnant and a very bad precedent for human beings everywhere in the world, including for Jews within Israel who have been victimized as well for political gain with the COVID vaccine policy, the Hannibal Directive where Israel killed them on Oct 7, 2023 to prevent hostages being taken, the attack on the SS Patria containing Jewish refugees from Europe by Zionist terrorists and the list goes on.
It is my view that the real war is between a global network of criminal oligarchs who seek to enslave us all. They will pretend to favor one group over another for a certain agenda and to keep us divided for conquer. But ultimately, I think the fate of Jews in Israel, 4th generation Americans, people who think they are trans, white and black south Africans is tied together and if we can prioritize holding back those who seek to enslave us all in their AI 5g mediated surveillance prison, we will have the freedom to hash out our differences and find ways to live together. Maybe I am naive. But maybe those who fail to see this threat despite our rights being steadily eroded are the naive ones.
The Palestinians allowed Hamas to rule. Palestinians knew the only reason Hamas was there was to make havoc with Israel. Therefore, if Palestinians didn't want a war, it was obvious they had to eliminate Hamas which they did not. It was up to the Palestinians to put down Hamas and get rid of them. They got what one would only expect ... and that's eventually getting booted out of Gaza. Forget about the past, we are in the present.
So kind of like the release of the J 6 insurrectionists who were released to go out and recruit more insurrectionists for the trump army. Believe me trump is trying to get an army to back him to let him remain in power after his four years are up. No one is out there trying to stop them. Yes, we do have to think about the present, but we have to remember the past. Why do you think Trump is so gung ho on gaining all these other countries, he thinks he’s Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, Napoleon. He wants to conquer the world for his own insane ego.
Trump already has an Army, not to forget the Navy, Marines and the Air Force. Maybe Trump has another goal, such as strengthening the country with the landmass and people of Canada, and Iceland ... and your backyard Julia <g>.
I pray you are just ignorant and not intentionally slanderous. Q: Why did Israel fund Hamas? Why did Israel stop negotiating with the local on the ground committee representatives in the first intifada and switch to Arafat? A: Israel privileges the resistance that it plans to use for its own propaganda agenda. That is why.
Q: Where did Hamas get helicopters to attack Israelis on Oct 7? Hamas only had hang gliders. Why did Israel leave the most protected border in the world unguarded for hours on Oct. 7?
And while we are at it, if we have this whole Patriot Act and warrantless mass spying on Americans b/c supposedly Al Qaeda attacked us on 9/11, why are we normalizing and supporting an Al Qaeda spin off in Syria? Why did we support Al Qaeda in Libya? Hmmmm.....
Your neat little story leaves out all context. And Americans are supposed to fall for that, sacrifice blood and treasure for it and circumscribe our own free speech rights for it, but fewer and fewer wish to. Maybe you are just a thug and think might makes right. But as the US empire slips into decline, you may regret not working harder to advocate for moral precedents in foreign and domestic policy.
Aimee, I'm just dumber than a door nail that's stuck in my head. Please keep hitting me on the head because it feels so good. Geez, helicopters! Really, pictures show motorcycle carrying off the people on Israel land. Where do you get your nonsensical talk from ... just curious.
Christ said those who follow Him are the New Israel. The atheist Zionists who founded Israel chose the name "Israel" and cited their project in The Holy Land to trick Christians into thinking this worldly genocidal project is "Israel" when it is actually The Church made up of His followers that is Israel. In addition to charging the Zionist entity with land theft, genocide and misusing our tax dollars, I also charge it with identity theft.
Christianity does not back Israel. Satanic heresy called Christian Zionism backs Israel. These are psyop Churches. They are not Christian. The Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches and much of the mainline Protestant Churches DO NOT support Zionism. Our own communities are subject to genocide in The Holy Land, so we can't quite as easily be fooled. And some within the Evangelical and Baptist psyop churches have seen through the con of the Scofield Reference Bible and are speaking out. (Tex Mars, Ted Pike, Rick While, and Chuck Baldwin to name a few.) Catholics and Orthodox make up more than 1/2 of the world's Christians. Do not slander us with this satanic heresy.
I wish you were correct, but Evangelical Christians and Baptists in the US are celebrating and championing the ethnic cleansing of Christians from The Holy Land b/c they have been conned into thinking Jesus wants us to kill people, His faithful followers among them, so that Jews can take over The Holy Land and bring on the End Times. It is hard to think of a more satanic inversion of what Christ taught and called us to do. Don't blame me, I am just reporting on what is actually out there. Sad, but that is where so many trusting Christians have been led to.
Within a minute of my reply, you send out another message with no response to my application of common sense. You simply issue a canned response ... no thinking or effort applied on your part. Can you actually reply to my response without another canned message of propaganda?
After all that Aimee wrote on here, you tell her there is "no thinking or effort applied on [her] part." And you accuse ME in a prior thread of having a "teeny weenie brain"?
How much do you receive from the Dem's USAID fund? Or do you belong to another organization? Aimee was filling in for you L. Angel to help destroy me, fair enough. Did that work to your satisfaction?
Trump is the most powerful man on this planet and acts like it which seems to be a huge relief for everyone from the Superbowl audience to Putin. Contrast this with four years of not knowing who the hell was running anything under Biden and we still don't know. I read the other day it was Hunter. The day before that Jill. The day before that it was Major dictating everything from his Delaware dog house. I personally don't feel unsettled under Trump like I did under Biden or whoever was supposedly running things.
FYI…Obama was pulling Biden’s strings, via daily Susan Rice early morning meetings prior to her start of day at the Biden White House…Obama = Shadow President for both Biden & Trump terms…unfortunately, for Team Blue, they left many trails that can now be tracked…
What happens if Obama was actively running a shadow command and control [Shadow Presidency] operation against the duly elected POTUS?
What former mid-senior admin officials would need to be involved?
What current mid-senior admin officials would need to be involved?
What key positions of power would be critical to the operation?
I for one have been enjoying the daily follies of Democrats lighting their own hair on fire over Trump, Musk and Doge. It should be obvious to all that the Dems have been running a decades long confidence game, lighting fires (literally), undermining our democracy by colluding with public sector unions and bankrupting the US Treasury. The ongoing lefty demonstrations would be hilarious if they weren’t so sinister. The servicing of the US debt by virtue of interest is now larger than the entire Pentagon budget! How else would the left have us address our crushing debt when they are the cause? We have already seen the outrageous line items seemingly focusing on race, gender and LGBTQ activism.
As for Trumps brilliant concept in turning the toxic cesspool of Gaza into an oasis of freedom and opportunity, I say what else do they have to lose? They, (the Palestinians) seem to be their own worst enemy. Even their Arab neighbors in Jordan don’t want them. Why? Maybe it’s because of the PLO’s last attempt to overthrow the Jordanian monarchy following the 6 Day War in 1970. I listened (and held my nose) to Tom Friedman last night on CNN having a hissy fit over Trump’s Gaza proposal. I would ask Mr. Friedman, what plan has he or his band of “intellectuals” EVER proposed a similar, bold and comprehensive plan for a people which have cost the West trillions in dollars in trying to get their own shit together? BTW, I would love to know who the genius was who awarded a moron like Thomas Friedman a Noble Prize! (corrected Pulitzer Prize).
LT, regarding the CNN interview last night with Thomas Friedman;
You ask who “The genius was who awarded a moron like Thomas Friedman a Nobel Prize”. He has never been awarded the Nobel prize, only 3 (so far) Pulitzer Prizes, as well as many other journalistic awards.
Friedman's book "The Lexus and the Olive Tree", remains a worthy read because at the time he attempted to balance the competing forces found at that time in MENA. But his fundamental pre 9-11 axiom that no country with a McDonalds will ever attack another country with a McDonalds, was eventually shattered.
I’ve always thought it interesting that no Muslim country wants the people of Gaza. They know these people need to remain their poster child.
I love how Trump pushes the liberals buttons. They just explode and make fools of themselves and their party of crooks. Musk and Big Balls needs to audit EVERY politician
Well well well, and the references to Flooding the Zone go directly to football terminology that really fits. The President goes to the Super Bowl (get cheers), and the losers were faced with a 4-3 front they could not handle.
When do the losers finally figure it out? They have lost and driven this country into debt that exceeds the ability of "Joe Public" to pay even with Democrat confiscatory taxes. FEMA hands out to illegals money intended for citizens of this country when faced with disaster. Yet the losers cannot face their actions and support made Trump the winner that he is.
It is time to “you must be willing to do something you've never done.” That is since 1939 cancel the grand experiment. Cut the waste, become lean and mean, give the workers of the nation a chance. Not the La La steal from those who have to stifle energy and personal initiative.
Understand the author's statement "... drive it toward a successful – and perhaps even happy – ending. ...." will not happen as long as we are told more taxes and government regulations are the outcome of the not so loyal opposition.
WHAT IF … no one had been bold enough to speak of an independent USA? TRUMP has spurred thinking, serious thinking about how to end the perpetual suffering in Gaza. The majority of the world has one word for this … GODSPEED.
If the "majority of the world" does not agree, but you say they do, then is it as if they do? What if most of the world thinks Israel runs the US and there is more truth to that statement than falsehood? Then what?
Not long after 9/11, Gen Wesley Clark learned and exposed that the Neocons, who are Israel First, wanted the US to invade seven countries in five years for Israel. Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran. All of those have been "checked off" except Iran. Our ruling class is willing to betray America and put Israel's interests first no matter the financial, political and moral cost to America. This is one of the few things both sides of the aisle agree on and what those who benefit from it want no one to talk about.
Look at our own woke congressman Carbajal's statements on Israel. Where is all the tough leftie talk about ending colonialism and reparations and people of color when it comes to Palestinians? He repeats propaganda against the Palestinians, votes to fund all the weapons Israel could want as they are leveling the homes and hospitals and schools of Gaza, then says "we sent some humanitarian aid money to Gaza."
Wake up. Our country is occupied by those who run Israel and they depend on us not noticing. But the rest of the world sees it. And us pretending it isn't true doesn't make it untrue.
Aimee, it’s hard to argue with your thesis as to who actually runs our country. Take your pick; international banking, finance, entertainment, corporate boards, many have trails back to the House of Rothschild. That being said, the Middle East is such a vibrant and important part of the world, it does deserve our limited help. Of countries you mentioned, I have only been to Syria and it was a barren wasteland. Trump has the vision, that Iran has enormous potential and a great people, all it needs is to be rid of religious zealotry. Same with the Palestinians, all they need is a chance at freedom. Why not use Saudi and Emirate money to achieve this?
Great Review David, so enjoyable to watch Trump’s early moves, he’s barely out of the batters box…brings to mind a favorite saying from the boards, “Nothing Can Stop What Is Coming — Nothing!”
I am wondering about the concept ‘nobody has successfully transferred unwilling populations’, not “unwanted” as quoted by Aimee. As a non historian I find this idea unclear. I believe after many wars the spoils have gone to the victors. Did Nazi Germany and the Eastern bloc countries not go thru some sort of transfers of populations or changes in borders? What about Pakistan/India? How about the Jews of Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Morocco and Jordan? So why does a population that elects a governing body which chooses to initiate and lose a conflict; which still to this date claims they will do it again and states as their mission the elimination of the Jewish state get to have a veto over a plan designed to offer them a better life in peace? President Trump has started a dialogue based on the reality of the situation with a worthy goal, it is time to follow Einstein’s advice to obtain a different outcome for the region.
Thank you, David, for the article, but I cannot say that I share your enthusiasm for America getting, once again, involved in the Middle East. I voted for Trump on his platform of cleaning up America, not removing the Palestinians from Gaza. I would much prefer DOGE look in AIPAC instead of getting us further involved in wars that are not our business. If memory serves me correctly, it was Netanyahu's pipe dreams to make Gaza into another Dubai and also the other was to run a canal through the area as a replacement for the Suez Canal. I see this not as a benefit but rather a continuation of meddling into areas we should not be in.
I hear you Monica and in an ideal world Trump would just tell the Middle East “Daddy's home and you brats are going to your rooms.” But the children have been running the house too long and they need more extreme measures from Daddy before he can do his real work.
Anyone having traveled periodically into this part of the Middle East over the past few decades has seen a remarkable transformation from barren desert, into developments beyond all imagination.
Nothing Trump is proposing has not already taken place in major tourism and resort developments found in the UAE, Israel, and Egypt. Their sustainability has yet to prove itself over time; but their immediate transformation and local economic development cannot be denied.
The major irony of course is the enduring appeal to travel to warm parts of the globe, when winter grips the less globally-warmed parts of the planet.
I agree, Trump did not run a campaign on ethnic cleansing of Gaza. This is morally wrong and the step 2 to Joe's genocide. Declaring "we'll own it" is against international law, and completely crazy. Kicking out Palestinians of their native lands is cruel and reprehensible. Trump should be focusing on America. It is Israel's job to repair Gaza since they are the ones who destroyed it (with the help of congress and Joe).
The Gaza makeover dream is just plain stupid. Not only does it portend huge unintended consequences, but what’s in it for us? Nothing but trouble.
I’m all for Making America Great Again but I don’t see all this foreign engagement. I think we should stick to our own knitting - we have enough problems here at home thanks to that idiot Joe Biden. That fool almost sank the ship!
I guess I’m going to flood the zone, too. Or maybe you call it potpourri, I’m sure you magas will call it something different.
Let’s start with the mean girl tweets. First, trump is sure that Taylor Swift is being booed, because the fans don’t like her, she’s been booed because the majority of the crowd were eagle fans, and Taylor is a Chiefs fan. trump doesn’t get the boos she got were different from the boos he got, which were from the majority of the crowd. No matter what fans they were they’re not fans of his. Then Mr. McCalmont, you want to add to the mean girl tweets by bringing attention to what Taylor was wearing, like middle school, l but be sure you’re correct on your details, she was not wearing a halter top. She was wearing a crop top. There is a difference.
You mentioned trump’s silo of goodwill and I’m afraid he doesn’t even have a chicken coop of goodwill. As for the art of the deal, he didn’t even write the book, and it should be titled the con of the deal.
You mention trump and Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House suck all the air out of DC, that was only because they’re two of a kind, blowhards, power-hungry, egotistical who want to stay in control. Yes, America has a full plate and nothing on the plate is about America. How about a serving of bringing down inflation, instead of creating jobs trump and musk are firing people left and right, who are not Trump loyalists. Who are these people being replaced with? How are they being vetted? Especially the FBI, CIA, people that work in confidential agencies.
Really? He wants to make the Gaza Strip a Middle Eastern Riviera? His first problem is getting rid of the Palestinians. This is called ethnic cleansing, he’s already working on that here in America. People will fight for their land their country, so how does he plan to have peace? Wouldn’t Americans fight if some demented, old white man were trying to invade our country? And you can bet the people running Gaza would be oligarchy billionaires.
You mention, American politics and aspirations should be exciting and should be infused with a sense of unprecedented possibility. What is wrong with America first in the sense that everyone can feel safe, where our country gets along with the world not trying to take it over.
Did you see that interview with musk, trump and a four year old kid running around the oval office? trump is sitting there like an old tired grandpa, trying to figure out what’s going on. So much for the most powerful man in the world, sitting there, watching the puppet master.
I shared this post with an old friend from Scottsdale. I met him through some RNC events in the early 2000s... he was a mucky-muck in the party and a full bird colonel in Viet Nam.
He said it made him cry. He said he didn't fight for the USA to become an imperialist nation. Nor can he imagine how any lover of our Constitution can be gleeful over the utter disregard of our Nation's long-held values or turn a blind eye while an unelected immigrant puts so many children and low-income elders at risk.
Part of me was surprised by his email, as I knew he voted for DJT. Most of me expected his response because he was a true patriot who had fought against oppression long after Vietnam.

How do you finance the operation?

Bingo!!
LT, regarding the CNN interview last night with Thomas Friedman;
You ask who “The genius was who awarded a moron like Thomas Friedman a Nobel Prize”. He has never been awarded the Nobel prize, only 3 (so far) Pulitzer Prizes, as well as many other journalistic awards.
I stand corrected Peter, it was Milton Friedman. Thank you for pointing this out.
Excellent article
I’ve always thought it interesting that no Muslim country wants the people of Gaza. They know these people need to remain their poster child.
I love how Trump pushes the liberals buttons. They just explode and make fools of themselves and their party of crooks. Musk and Big Balls needs to audit EVERY politician
Trump is awesome
Strange thing to post on an article about his ethnic cleansing.
Get lost loser
Classy response. You can't be too intelligent if all you are capable of is ad hominems.
Fuck you
Get lost loser
Thought provoking article.
Three words: Wollman Ice Rink
As a young man, Trump risked big and introduced himself to NYC. https://wollmanrinknyc.com
But he's not standing up to the "children." He's doing everything they want him (and America) to do.
