Thank you, Andy. I had checked out Project 2025 some time ago because anytime anything gets demonized I look into it:-) DuckDuckGo, which I switched from Google to as soon as possible, made it easy then to find Project 2025. I just checked and DuckDuckGo still does place the PDF and the link you gave at the top of the search. DDG has become more Googlified but it's way preferable.

My own thoughts: Any president would be wise to get distance from any political think tank institute, no matter what the president's party, whether Brookings or Project 2025. Institutes are, as you wrote, made up of many people, and divergent ideas and they shift and grow more or less extreme. So I'm glad Trump has distanced himself from Project 2025. I say this with the experience of watching institutes. When I was a kid, my parents were friends with Hallock and Gene Hoffman (Hallock's brother was my godfather) who were two of the founders of the Fielding Institute. They were exceptional people, Quakers, and challenged the Loyalty Oath, which they were right to do. As much as I admired their anti-war activities, I don't think any president should have aligned with their institute. And many of you may remember the Center for Democratic Studies here, which became increasingly radical. Brookings Institute is a bloated, pompous blight at this point.

Back to Project 2025. The basic tenets listed on the website are not, to me, conservative. I agree with all of them and I'm not a conservative. Actually, the call to dismantle the Deep State is the kind of thing that got JFK assassinated, and he wasn't a conservative. I found the tenets just common sense. Honestly, if I could make this plea: they should lose the word “conservative” and replace it with “common sense.”

I didn't see anything about abortion, which made me sigh with relief. I am not pro-abortion, but it should not be the thing that stops all conversation and prevents us from going forward.

Thanks again for this column and for mentioning your interviews which I look forward to checking out.

Project 2025 immediately was forced to publish a fact by fact rebuttal of the specific Democrat lies about its content. There was no relationship to their partisan claims and its actual contents. Always good advice Polly, during election year silly seasons particularly to seek the original source material.

Unless like the 2020 Election Year "covid" hysteria, the powers that be had already preemptively cancelled, re-written and/or censored all sane rebuttal material.

If you have any doubts that Republicans won't make abortion illegal entirely, you need to wake up. Ending legal accessible abortion is their end goal. Women will DIE. I am not a single issue voter, but I will fight for women's reproductive rights until the day that I die. This is gravely important. Republicans need to give that up.

How very sad for you S Schroeder, you are so brainwashed you don't realize you advocated the willful murder of the most vulnerable and innocent human beings. What a vicious and vile pile of dead bodies to stand on. Every other abortion kills a woman and what do you care about men? Thank about it, you encourage a woman to murder her own child, and use the fear porn that if women can't murder their children in a safe environment, they might die. It is sickening because any sane , any real woman would rather die than murder her own children. You have no idea what you are saying, but you call it "gravely important." Shame on you S!

Also, where, exactly did I encourage ANYONE to get an abortion? I didn't. DO NOT mix up my words or falsely claim that I said anything I did not say.

It is a solid fact that women die because of abortion bans, that is not "fear" mongering or "fear porn" as you put it. That is a verified fact. I have every idea of what I am talking about. Yes, yes they do. And abortion is NOT murder. Abortion is the removal of a clump of unformed cells. Get real. Researchers have found that if abortion is banned throughout the United States, the overall number of maternal deaths would rise by 24 percent. This number is even worse for Black women, whose deaths would rise by 39 percent.

Oh please, you can get down from the kitchen table now, it’s perfectly safe. I love it how libs claim to base all their Chicken Little bullshit on believing in “science,” and how conservatives are “anti science.” Ya sure, the “Science” behind needless COVID vaccines, climate change, Transgenderism and abortion. “Fetuses can’t feel pain”when they are burned to death with hypertonic saline solution based on your science?

Admittedly, if women (birthing people) want to terminate them/their pregnancy in the first trimester, I really don’t care. That’s on them and between them and their beliefs.

Since most women do not even seriously show their pregnancies until the end of the second trimester or later, killing that baby is a high price to pay for only a few more months. Then delivering a full term live baby, that is quickly adopted in to a loving and waiting family.

She thought it was nothing, just like getting rid of a pimple. When she came out, she was a different person. She was devastated by what she'd done. Because when a woman gets pregnant everything in her gets ready to protect this living creature she has been blessed with carrying. Years later when I saw that woman again she drank too much. She had an empty life. I wondered how many times she wished she had some reason to live, that she wished she'd had that child. It is absolutely unhealthy for women to have abortions. But it is better that women do it in the best circumstances so I support legal abortions,

Hi Sheryl: I haven't read obviously the whole 900 pages so I am wondering what you are referring to about it being racist. Could you write an example of what you mean? Thanks.

Expand full comment
S Schroeder's avatar

Yes, Monica. Project 2025 seeks to eliminate protection for equality in American society. One of the first things they want to eliminate is the teaching of Critical Race Theory in schools. They want to whitewash education.

Another one of the project’s core objectives is to reduce the federal government’s involvement in healthcare. This means the incoming president could (and likely would) take a battleax to the agencies that run Medicare and Medicaid as well as affiliated offices that research treatments for infectious diseases and approve prescriptions, medical devices, and personal products like cosmetics.

The main goal: fewer Black, brown or low-income people will have healthcare. Black women, especially expectant mothers, will continue having the worst health outcomes, and the practice of medicine will become more politicized than ever.

Trump’s project 2025 and Agenda47 would dismantle nearly every federal program dedicated to building and strengthening Black-owned businesses. It would eliminate a 60-year old program that requires federal contractors to comply with anti-discrimination laws and overhaul the Minority Business Development Agency into a program focused on “the benefit of free markets, the evils of socialism and Communism, and the destructive effect of taxes and regulations on minority businesses.”

Project 2025 will stop the Justice Department’s civil rights division from investigating voter suppression and election interference. That directly affects people of color.

Then there is the police. Parents of children who commit crimes like mass shootings won’t be subject to prosecution. But Trump’s Agenda47 pledges to wipe out gangs and investigate progressive prosecutors in “Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and every other city where these maniacs have taken over.” Meanwhile, Project 2025 wants to use the federal government to “target violent crime and career criminals” and “use the death penalty” as often as possible, or “until Congress says otherwise through legislation.” And on his first day in office, Trump will terminate every “unnecessary or outdated consent decree” in America – effectively eliminating the most effective tool for monitoring and overseeing corrupt and abusive law enforcement agencies. This favors good ol' boy white police and is bad for civilians in general. These are my quick takes from it, and although I have read a hefty portion of the document I have not read all 900 plus pages yet. It's HORRID. We cannot let it happen.

I think that 900 pages of policies will certainly lend to not agreeing with everything that is included in this project and perhaps something less massive might be more productive. That being said, I can tell from your comment that you are in support of CRT being taught in schools. I am not. I find it highly divisive and destructive to the much wanted racial unity we are all, hopefully, striving for in this country. And I do have to admit that I am old school and believe that the schools main aim should be teaching the three "r's" which statistics show they are greatly lacking in. Today so many educators are interested in empire building instead of doing what is best for the children. I am glad that Andy wrote this article so we can all investigate it a bit further.

As an Independent, I may take a more caution view since the Plan was generated by strong conservates and as such, proposes a plan that may be exclusionary to moderates and those left of center. Since America is home to 6 races of peoples, hundreds of religious practices and a variety of other differentiators, the viewpoint of less than 30% of the population MAY poor policy for the country as a whole. Just read Hamilton's first 10 essays from the Federalists Papers to see what history has taught about such attempts.

Project 2025 would be a disaster for the United States. For starters, it would eliminate school funding as we know it. They want to eliminate the Head Start program which offers free early childhood education, health and nutrition services to children from low-income families.

That would eliminate services for the families of roughly 800,000 children, two-thirds of whom are Black or brown (but we all know Republicans do not care about this faction of the American public)

It seeks to limit the number of children who can qualify for free school meal programs while also calling for Republicans to block any effort to implement universal free school meal programs. WHAT THE HELL??!!

Project 2025 seeks to shrink the social safety net. Critical federal programs meant to support people experiencing economic hardship and children living in poverty would be significantly overhauled or eliminated under the plan. Its reforms would make it more difficult for people to qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly referred to as "food stamps."

SNAP is the country's largest nutritional assistance program, serving an average of around 41 million people — or over 10% percent of the population — per month. What are those people then going to do?

Project 2025 calls for caps to how much federal funding states may get to help pay for Medicaid costs. These caps would ensure that federal Medicaid spending does not keep pace with expected enrollment and health care cost increases, resulting in a significant cut to funding over time. This would significantly negatively impact our aging middle class population.

Weirdly, Project 2025 wants to dissolve the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and either transferring its functions to private agencies or eliminating them entirely. It argues NOAA must be terminated because its research on the effects of human-caused climate change from greenhouse gas emissions "is harmful to future U.S. prosperity." FFS!!! What?! Project 2025 would eliminate federal money for research and investment in renewable energy and sustainable climate research. Super LAME.

Project 2025 would overhaul the entire U.S. tax system, shifting to two tax brackets instead of the tiered system we have now. Millions of low- and middle-class households would face significantly higher taxes under the Project 2025's proposals.

Project 2025 would make porn illegal. Weird, but ok. Project 2025 would eliminate a long list of terms from all laws and federal regulations, including "sexual orientation", "gender equality", "abortion" and "reproductive rights". This gravely hurts women and the entire LBGTQ population by making sure that they have no federal protections whatsoever.

Project 2025 gives the American president entirely too much power. It's a road map for stringent Puritan backwards values and dictatorship. There is not ONE thing about Project 2025 that benefits a free American society. We are NOT a theocracy or a monarchy. Do NOT fall for it.

Since a key component of Project 2025 is ........ "dismantling the deep state, and improving education, including eliminating the Federal Department of Education" ............ one quickly understands where the howls of protest against Project 2025 are coming from.

Former Gov Jerry Brown admitted he did nothing without first consulting what he identified as his unelected fourth branch of government - the California Teachers Association (CTA): the parent state teachers unions along with their local subsidiaries.

The real howls of protest should be directed at the California #45 ranking for our state's K-12 student outcomes. Because California voters passed Prop 98 which ensured public education is our highest state budget priority. Prop 98 requires 50% of all general funds goes automatically to public education. We want good schools in our state and Prop 98 made sure they got the funding to provide this critical state resource.

However, an unintended consequence of this automatic public education funding priority turned the unelected state teachers unions into one of the loudest political forces in this state. So how did throwing this much automatic public education funding go so very wrong for California?

(See Vegara vs LAUSD for a detailed analysis of the ongoing weaknesses in the current teacher union-driven delivery of public education in this state. Teacher union members back the election of state legislators, who in turn write the mammoth California Education Code.)

[D's] , tell Biden: “We’ll give ya a pot of gold and an FDR Hero Medal if you’ll resign at the Democrat Convention so Blow-Blow Harris can take over, which would allow her to run as the sitting president.

Good article Andy. Thank You. While Project 2025 is a big basket collection of ideas/recommendations developed by conservative groups for decades, it does contain many policy recommendations that most American citizens support. Shame that the Legacy Media & AI programs have aggregated the common sense policies with those that are less popular in order to smeared political candidates & conservative-minded citizens.

PS…Google, like many www programs, was developed by DARPA & used by the Deep State to mold the minds of us plebs… https://qz.com/1145669/googles-true-origin-partly-lies-in-cia-and-nsa-research-grants-for-mass-surveillance

FYI…Sergey Brin, Co-founder of Google, (President of Alphabet Inc.Net Worth $49.5 Billion) is married to Anne Wojcicki, Co-founder of 23andMe (Net Worth $1 Billion, *DNA Database) who is sisters with Susan Wojcicki, CEO of Youtube (Net Worth $410 Million, *Censorship)…it’s a big club, with lots of nepotism…

FAKE NEWS keeps you asleep (sheep) and fixed in a pre_designed false reality (narrative). GOOGLE altering search results to 'support' the pre_designed narrative and 'prevent' (make harder) for one to learn the TRUTH? Those (w/ influence) who challenge the narrative are banned, shunned, threatened………

There are so many other search engines besides Google. You cannot blame Google on the horrors of Project 2025. The document is insane. It would be awful for America.

I like common sense policies, including many that happen to coincide with Project 2025, but keep in mind that Project 2025 is not part of the Republican platform.

PS…I quit the Republican Party in 1992 & voted for Perot…always wanted to send an outsider to clean up Washington & reduce the size of federal government + couldn’t vote for GWHB, the exCIA head, when he started promoting the NWO, Thousand Points of Light narrative

This article highlights an important issue in American political life: the influence of corporate campaign contributions. While it points out concerns about Google's and Facebook's roles, it overlooks the fact that other influential figures, like Elon Musk, are also using their resources to support the opposite side. It's crucial to consider all perspectives to ensure a more balanced understanding and the article fall short on this measure. Ultimately, corporate contributions from any side can distort the political field, and perhaps we should consider banning them altogether. Elections should truly reflect the voice and choice of the people. The question is, how can we make this a reality?

It doesn't help that Trump disavowed the report, insinuating it was extremist right wing views that he said he knew nothing about. Why would people think it's not a crazy dangerous blueprint for America when the guy it was supposedly written for is denouncing it.

“people don’t know what they don’t know”

Thus is why we can not shy away from having conversations, asking questions.

Yes there are those indoctrinated Donkey Cult Zombies that only say “orange man bad”

But most people you can talk to one on one.

It is our duty to talk to our family, friends, neighbors, coworkers.

If you do not then be prepared to live in a Marxist country. The last 3.5 years of lockdowns, needing identification to goto dinner, DEI privileges, supply chain issues, inflation, world war, rising unemployment , removing property rights, removing parents rights, drug addiction, drug deaths, etc….

We just saw the beginning of a Democrat/RINO world.

[Brackets are mine] Andy provided a good summary when he wrote "The real policy recommendations of Project 2025 include securing the border [keep "them" out, and keep you in], unleashing American energy [America is already the world's leader in fossil fuel production, so this is codespeak for shutting down alternative energy and carbon management], de-weaponizing the federal government [replacing department heads with Trump loyalists], dismantling the deep state [replacing career civil servants with Trump sycophants], and improving education [book bans, "White" washing U.S. history, segregating schools] including eliminating the Federal Department of Education [ditto]. It also includes recommendations on how to rein in inflation [that's already been done] and how to deal with rampant crime [that's already been done], including promoting and expediting capital punishment [for poor people, and before DNA evidence can exonerate them]."

Wading through all 900+ pages of this "conservative" White oligarch manifesto is a challenge, to say the least. Unfortunately, the authors did not write it at a 6th grade reading level, so many of Trump's most ardent supporters may not be able to comprehend what it portends for them. As Maya Angelou warns us, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." Good advice, and a warning that German readers of "Mein Kampf" failed to heed.

SS: "Them" are line cutters, who stomp over those waiting patiently for legal application to enter this country. Do you have a problem with this?

The deep state are 99% Democrat sycophants today. Of course, they should be replaced. The Civil Service Act needs total reformation to ensure no partisan taint ever enters government service ever again. This includes a total ban all government employee unions.

As usual, another political discussion that devolves to dragging the "children" card out, and of course, abortion.

Meanwhile, thanks to the blind allegiance of the overwhelming majority of angry, scared voters, the national debt keeps rising and more and more of us ("us" as in "many of you") come closer to joining the ranks of the homeless.

I guess "children", "racism", and abortion are really the only talking points that matter. Carry on with the status quo, and from time to time, check in on the national debt.
