Well done Henry. It has been surprising that that by hosting the World Cup Soccer tournament we have brought visitors so much awe and appreciation for the American way of life. Good and free living through capitalism. Milton Friedman observed, “The essential notion of a capitalist society ... is voluntary cooperation, voluntary exchange. The essential notion of a socialist society is force.”

The swing to the left has been forced upon the new generations through the liberal education system. They were never taught that socialism and communism has never worked in any country, ever. Our Democratic Party all support the left otherwise they will not be re-elected and those in power like the money they steal, embezzle, from the citizens through stealing our tax dollars through bogus money laundering where the democrats have become so good at. We will see what becomes of the SAVE act that every citizen of our country should embrace. It may be a surprise at the mid-terms.

This is insulting. You make it sound like Republicans, Christians, Trump supporters etc have a corner on being American. You can label half the country as communists or socialists which is totally insane, but it isn’t real. There is a faction that labels themselves as socialists. The media would like you to believe that’s the dreaded future. Be afraid. It’s coming. It’s ridiculous!! There is a faction of the Right which is 100% White Nationalist. I would not paint all Republicans as that extreme. Why can’t we even PRETEND to be inclusive on our 250th birthday? That says a lot. it’s maddening….and mostly truly sad. I do, sincerely, wish you a proud, heart-felt holiday. I plan to take a deep breath and celebrate our (all of OUR) strength, history, diversity and freedom.

Elaine, Those now labeled "socialists" sound just like the latest iteration of the longstanding internal war between SEIU and the teachers unions against the police unions.

There is a common theme in all their agendas, expressed in their virtually similar manifestos, just now under the new name of DSA instead of .....Indivisible, OWS, BLM, DSA, No Kings, etc. etc. etc. .....Defund the police and give the money to SEIU and the teachers unions, all jobs must be union jobs, guaranteed income, tax the rich, make them pay their fair share.... Exact same fundamental messaging.

Prove me wrong.

Excellent - thank you!

"They’re not aware of a new form of evil bubbling up into the mainstream to disrupt and change what they’re all enjoying on their work vacation. These socialist parasites are America’s real enemy."

I fear the zombie voters will allow the parasites to consume them and it will be too late.

Henry, please do us all a favor and don’t scream “socialism” at any candidate whose actual platform is “rent you can afford” and “a doctor you can see when you need to without going broke.” Politicians who do this can’t argue the economics (and their billionaire donors won’t let them even if they wanted to), so they change the subject to fear.

But the American people aren’t buying the GOP’s oligarchic bs anymore. The GOP got crushed in last year’s off-year elections on the simple issue of affordability — which I read as blowback against oligarchy — and Tuesday in New York the floor under corporate Dems who’re still singing the Reaganomics song gave way again. Now NYC is not the rest of the country but you have to get the point. People are tired of the old platitudes.

JA: Promise you won't come to premium areas like Santa Barbara and demand "affordable housing" that someone else is required to pay you to get.

Promise you will combat and claw back all the current waste fraud and abuse within out current subsidized health care and social services first, before you keeping demanding more of the same.

Promise you will stop attacking ICE and the police while taking away their public safety duties and funding away.

Stop your TDS parroting to win this election year contest, when you offer no other sound policies and solutions on your own. Just pour more good money after bad is NOT a solution. It is one more insider government industrial-complex power grab. No sale.

Then maybe we can talk. Voters are even more tired of hoary Democrat class warfare and more money grab solutions to everything. You are not reading the room very well.

We can start with hearing Democrat solutions to the massive underfunded government pension crisis, which will rob Gens XYZ even more as the debt gets passed on to their laps as more Boomer government employees retire demanding their union promised-pensions are paid off in full. and the money is not there.

Democrat sstill refuse to talk about this. This massive debt and wealth transfer to fund government employee pensions in full will impact "affordability" far more than any other factor.

Run the numbers on the government pension defaults alone and stop this partisan hate America and the GOP smokescreen. GOP did not get crushed in ..."the last midterm elections". They have not even been held yet. It was the GOP who crushed the Democrats and finally kicked out Nancy Pelosi in the ..last midterm elections in 2022. You are just making things up.

Lower, one quick question…where do you get your information? You appear to be painting anyone you disagree with with the same brush.

Loweg's avatar

LOL. Hold that non-responsive thought JA, and keep reading. This is an information/opinion exchange. Prepare to stand, deliver and defend. Where did Thomas Paine get his "information"?

Yes, I am a broken record about the peril the government employee union power grab, has put this entire nation and its original founding fundamentals into since 1962. Bye, bye Humphries Executor. Death to the unelected deep state.

That is a good start to right the current unionized, but floundering ship of state, on our 250th Anniversary. Ready to talk about the issues your own post raised? I listed them in my prior response.

Great article, thanks. This whole thing makes me feel very warm and fuzzy too.

When living in Switzerland during the last Bicentennial (1976) the first waves of Swiss were visiting America for the first time on special package deals to see NYC and Niagara Falls or reviving the very moribund Miami Beach hotel areas.

Later they started venturing beyond the East Coast and into our national parks. They had the same reaction back then too- they were amazed that the America they were seeing was nothing like what they had expected to find -just strings of high-rise and freeways. Even accused us of keeping our wild vast spaces a secret. They had never seen anything like that landscape before. And so many endless miles of it.

A French friend later visited me after my return from Switzerland and I took him on the standard circuit to Death Valley to Yosemite and back to Santa Barbara. Each stop was crawling with French tourists back then. He grumbled he did not travel this far to only be surrounded "by Frogs". But he also observed why do we keep referring to Santa Barbara as the "American Riviera". Why not just call it was it is - Santa Barbara. French names on restaurant menus in local restaurants also triggered his Gallic disdain.

It appears European tourism later got turned off after GW Bush went to war in Iraq and the Iron Curtain came down opening new Eastern Europe travel adventures on their same continent. MENA beach resorts only a few hours away became their go-to vacation escapes, along with cruises into the Indian Ocean.

So it is very welcome to have them coming back to the US again. I wonder how they will react to their same anti-US media reports when they return? Will they form a new critical mass to be a game changer for future US and EU relationships?
