I have always remembered Santa Barbarans anywhere and everywhere to be kind, sweet, always nice and sharing a sense of community. This is the reason I moved here in the first place due to this sense of community and attitude of helping each other, because I had remembered how wonderful the people in this town have always been. Unfortunately, after the debacle called Covid, things seemed to have taken a turn for the worse as more and more people from the upper east coast of the United States, Los Angeles and San Francisco have moved in and brought their mentality to this once wonderful town. Now more than ever, I see irreverant finger flipping, horn honking and a general lack of caring towards others. This lack of caring and decency at the Grenada speaks volumes as to what this once beautiful town has now come down to. I want our old town back and badly!!! Thank you Pat for exposing and sharing this story with us.
Sadly...gone are the days of "The customer is always right..." They should have apologized and refunded your money immediately; instead of waiting for outside pressure to respond. Compassion and kindness are hard to come by these days.. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Government doesn't always get it right -- Look at the mess the pols have made of things lately! -- but the passage of the American Disabilities Act stands as a monumental piece of legislation. Back in 1975, I was working at CBS-KNXT on Sunset Blvd. One day on my lunch hour, I noticed men at work on the sidewalk curbs. What the heck was going on? That was my introduction to ADA, the law that opened up safe access for ALL people along our sidewalks and crossing streets.
I am old enough to remember when you never saw folks in wheelchairs or walkers at restaurants, in department stores, at theatres. A time before Special Ed. (Where were disabled children educated? Where did they play?) A time before accessible restrooms, playgrounds, public buildings, parking, travel by train, plane, and cruise ship. Time before lives too often isolated and hidden away.
Yes, Brava Ms. Fish. You and your dog (who supports your independence), are welcome to sit next to me at the Granada. I only wish the theatre had taken it further to acknowledge their very wrong behavior, and offered you a front row ticket for an upcoming performance of your choice. That would be a heartfelt Mea Culpa.
Brava, Ms Fish. Thank you for the report, the follow-up and the value offered by one of our many local community resources: Independent Living Resource Center.
What a very sad experience for you and your dog! It is a disappointment to see the Granada have such poor customer service. I hope they are thinking about the next time you may want to attend a performance, and will you? I agree fully with Celeste Barber's comment offering you a FREE front row seat for a performance of your choosing. That would go way farther than succumbing to a local organization's influence rather than doing what is RIGHT on their own. Thank you for sharing!

Good letter about a bad situation. However ruined by reference to
“Imigrant hordes”. Unfortunate.

Falun Gong defense is so pathetic.
