More taxes and fees are coming until all Democrats are voted out or learn to cut government spending. It’s easier to pass more bonds, parcel, and special taxes than for officials to cut spending. Locally the City and County of Santa Barbara could easily cut a fourth of its personnel. Six voter initiatives are available to sign at local shopping centers. 5 of 6 are to INCREASE our taxes. One is for a bond to create housing only for UC employees.
Be careful what you sign. CA Voter Initiatives tend to pass as fewer own properties to carry the tax burden.
Well, actually renters carry the burden too, they just don’t see it. What if a law was passed to show renters their share of everything in the property tax bill? State, county, city, fire, SBCC bonds, other bonds, school taxes…
Nailed it. How do you tax someone on a unrealized capital gain, who accesses the value of these assets? This sounds like one big law suit. Then to follow will be the wealth tax on those with assets over $100mm and $10mm and then just about everybody left. There must be a better way, how about reduced spending for starters?
Somewhere around 2003 I paid AMT (alternative minimum tax) on unrealized capital gain based on valuation of stock in a private company. The tax bill was enough to buy a house at the time.
Yes, yes, yes. Not just the middle class, the working California citizen poor, who are not sanctuary persons! Santa Barbara and many of our state's counties are designed to soley focus on what can we give to those who came over our borders AND are not citizens. Newsome and today's Democrat leaders do not care. Newsome was interviewed some time ago. On video he has said he wants to make California a country. Why? Because he argues it's the 5th largest economy in the world. NOT ANYMORE! Proposition 19 destroyed California's entire future. We just voted in another education bond. As voting citizens WHO DO NOT GET IT always do. Yet our teacher's job security is faced with pink slips every March and maybe see a 3-5% raise every 6 or more years. BUT alas, the California Teaches Union is worth millions with tons of perks! It is evident! With the 2026 election looming large and Newsome's power grab through his con-cocted gerrymandering, he has single-handedly destroyed the 5th largest economy in the world! People began chanting in the early 2000s in their childish voting mantra, tax the millionaires! Now "we" are all millionaires per our little plots of land. We are the highest taxing state already! But your king demands more. Lie prostrat before him...
Part of the Democrat/socialist agenda demands higher taxes. Dems can rally the masses of poor voters through envy, stoking class warfare, race warfare, welfare warfare. Creating division is the key. As Obama and Hillary Clinton’s mentor Alinsky said in his Rules for Radicals..
“The issue is never the issue, the issue is the revolution.”
The work Dems accomplish has been made possible by our courts ignoring the plain message of the 5th amendment. The door to Marxist so called ‘progressive taxation’ was opened and left open by our Supreme Court in 1913 when the court failed to review the new international banker led tax scheme.
Our 5th amendment requires equal protection for citizens under laws and from taxation under the law.
And yet SCOTUS stood aside when the 16th amendment was passed by Congress and signed into law by academic democrat President Wilson in 1913, creating the unequal progressive tax enforced by the IRS.
This newly proposed billionaire tax, and any adjustable tax is in complete contradiction to the ‘equal protection’ clause of the 5th amendment.
Key Facts of the 16th Amendment (1913)
Purpose: It was designed to provide a stable source of federal revenue and shift the tax burden away from lower-income individuals, who were disproportionately affected by the high tariffs (taxes on imported goods) that previously funded 50% to 90% of the government.
Legal Impact: It effectively overturned the 1895 Supreme Court ruling in Pollock v. Farmers' Loan & Trust Co., which had declared federal income taxes on rents, dividends, and interest unconstitutional because they were not apportioned by state population.
Cole - And notice this false argument even put forward by AI.. That progressive taxation was supposed to lesson the burden on little people..,Classic Democrat/marxist class warfare here.
The 1913 Revenue Act: Shortly after ratification, Congress passed the Revenue Act of 1913, which established a 1% tax on net personal incomes above $3,000 (roughly $95,000 in 2026 dollars) and a surtax of up to 6% on incomes above $500,000.
Birth of the 1040: This amendment led to the creation of the first Form 1040, which was originally just three pages long.
Equal protection for all would mean nothing nothing but a national sales tax, a state sales tax, and a local sales tax.
But they realized how hard it would be then to raise the percentages by convincing EVERYONE that the government needed more of their money. The current format allows them to play the poor against the “Rich“ to swell government coffers in unending numbers
Bottom line is taxation is theft. Cali is anti business and pro tax. When all the businesses leave and all the wage earners leave, why there may still be an increase in population because all the illegals and welfare grubs will come here, but the state will be bankrupt. With only 50% of working age adults paying tax, it is criminal to take money from 50% and give it to the other 50%.
I could go on and on , waste, fraud abuse, train to nowhere, rent control, mandates on business...etc. etc.
Businesses such as the one I work for are leaving this state in droves.
Our California citizens keep moving away. Just vote against these horrific tax-the-poor Democrats and their policies! That's all they ever scream about! Yes they know how to spend our tax dollars and use our state as a never-ending cash cow.
In October on a Saturday, a meeting open to the public at a local church focused on a balanced budget for the 2026 election was held on this very thing. Maybe 40 people were there. Yet Santa Barbara joins in the fight for more millions of tax dollars to continue giving as a sanctuary city and housing for the homeless. Who is going to pay the property tax for these 1,000s of units? We rally in big turnouts in the streets for the non-citizen yet are the very ones who believe there must be a cash cow, somewhere? There is not enough cash to take on millions of those who are considered a Public Charge, Indigent or Intending Immigrant. WHY did the public stand down on Biden's Open Borders? California is over $500 billion, reporting over $1 trillion in debt already! Trains to nowhere, the Unhoused, the EV, and the non-citizen. Forget ever getting your pension!
If billionaires' assets are taxed, they will be forced to liquidate Stocks and Bonds. This, causing a stampede to sell. Ultimately the 401k and pension holder will be effected.
We would already be gone if we could find a way to move the kids and grandkids to wherever we relocate. I do not want to be left holding the bag (my house), when it becomes worthless because no one in their right mind will move here to pay impossible taxes with no future for their families. When is the populous of California going to wake up and see that all of this is unsustainable?
I just got my electric bill, with all the new taxes. We have a gas stove, oven and heater. Two people live in my house. We NEVER run the air conditioning. $278. Completely outrageous. I am so pissed about this.
If I was sucking the government tit for welfare or fake disability, or claiming I am not employed , but have a brand new camaro in my driveway because I get payed under the table, I wouldn't be paying anything. So another example of theft
Why is your anger at the government? The government didnt set the rates, a private business did. The government stopped them from charging whatever they wanted, though. Why not show the anger to the real reason why electricity went up? *Points finger towards anything data center related.
I just looked at the rate for my one-person 900sf house, it is now $250 a month and in 2021 it was $80. Gas stove oven and heat, no air conditioning, must be the computer sucking up all that electricity !!!
Great story, Brent. I like the comment: Even Governor Newsom projects that the billionaires leaving will “result in a “significant reduction in taxes” collected by California. Maybe that means less money for Newsom to steal. Newsom doesn't care about anyone in CA, only himself.
Stoking class envy is the plan. Getting the mass of voters (numbers bolstered by illegals registered as they go to the DMV) to strike back at the elite they perceive as leeches profiting off their labor. But none of these ill-informed and credulous folks see that as the billionaires leave the state the scam will move down to millionaires, and that will include pretty much anyone who owns property here in our town. And when our Socialist Council and Supervisors make raising rents impossible the tenants who think they have won will learn that landlords are unable to continue and must sell out to BlackRock and Vanguard, who will work magic to provide tenement level housing for illegals instead of the working poor.
Speaking of a one time tax, my mother told me back in 1947 that the sales tax was a one time tax, they were to hold on to the receipts and would be reimbursed. So much for one time.

Ever notice how taxes are always retro-ractive, whereas tax cuts are always in the future?
I read this Tax-The-Rich Article titled "Tax on the Assets of Billionaires"
By Brent E. Zepke, Esq. where CALI is going to possibly Tax Big Bucks
to pay off it's Huge Operating Expenses. I quote from the Key Statement >
"As my finger hovered over the delete button, I realized that the details indicated that such a tax could increase my taxes."
Any doubt they are going to Tax Average Joe than watch this on In/Out Burger Family and Why You Are Going to Be Taxed>>> "I am Done With Cali"

100% agree ! Taxes and bonds
Never diminish. They are perpetual until the spending stops. And that never seems to happen in CA.

If it were not for California’s natural beauty and great weather, it would already be dead.
You are right all the way👍
