This reminds me of the government/ environmentalist attempt to repopulate the often (usually) dry creeks of Southern and Central coastal California with steelhead trout. Many millions of taxpayer dollars have been expended with what evidence that it has made a difference?
But to your point they are Godless people who believe in evolution, survival of the fittest? Yet they refuse to allow nature to take its course, when they can steal tax payer monies.
Look at the marsh lands in Carp. The rich are now worried that “global warming” might sink their houses which they were told would be under water before they bought them. But hey they’re rich and deserve to deserve nature to save themselves.
Just like the CA $24 billion in homeless funding that is, well unaccounted for.
Homeless are another species that the corrupt have convinced the public to allow to be free range foraging through trash for food. They say it is inhumane to furce mentally ill, drug adducts into housing off the street away from violent predators where they will receive shelter, beds, three square meals/day and regular health care.
So Democrat Voters choose to protect the homeless habitats allowing them to set fires in the bushes, camp in front of your house or business.
I’m surprised no one has set up a feeding zoo like at 5he SB zoo. They’ll sell you mini bottles of alcohol do you can go feed the homeless. Wait , San Fran has already decided yo do this, they give homeless free alcohol.
Ok let’s call all this BS what it truly is, a way to launder money and steal from you & me. And the IRS wants to tell me how to run my business and extort money from me.
Thank you Andy for your insight into what is the salamander. The very word sends chills down the spines and drains the wallet of anyone hoping to build anything in SB County.
Speaking of sub-species of puny sub-species, so too are our breed of local and state politicians. So beholden to the DCC and bloated government, that without these 2 things that provide their very survival, they would be worthless and extinct in the wild. I cannot wait for the Department of Government Efficiency to trickle down into our little dysfunctional hamlet and expose the mountain of fraud and inefficiencies that have burdened and nearly destroyed our beautiful communities. I only pray it happens before the damage is irreversible.
Interesting article, Andy, and my question is what can the taxpayers (all of us) do to stop this insanity or is it too late? Can we ever get the names of the actual people who dream up these scams and hold them accountable?
The problem I see is the governments will use any excuse to generate a purpose for money flow that will get tapped into. If you look for people that are accountable, then that creates cash flow that will fall into the hands of the crooks. As I see it, it's a no-win situation for the taxpayer. I say just get rid of all the scoundrels and start over.
Perhaps Gavin Newsome and his 1 Billion dollar mask deal .. which masks apparently dissolved into thin air like the billion dollars .. could be a start..
If you ever figure out who the genuises are who put 'salamander-gate' together lemme know. I've got a pillow case full of feathers and a bucket of tar waitin' for 'em!
Thanks, Andy, for this recent insanity update. As is often stated, "You can't make this stuff up." There are salamanders everywhere and they love jumping into swimming pools here in Georgia. It would have been cheaper to send the CA salamanders to Georgia ... assuming the government really cared about salamanders which they really don't <g>. Follow the money trail.
Andy, you are community treasure as you continue to unearth and expose these ridiculous abuses of taxpayer money. What happened to common sense. Clearly government agencies have lost theirs.
“The Endangered Species Act,” is yet another ploy/scam used by the liberal, Democratic machine to keep out energy exploration, housing and development. Yes, the ESA keeps the greedy corporations from providing adequate housing from the very folks who pay the bills! Yes, our own government officials collude with radical groups the Surf Rider, the Sierra Club and the Environmental Defense Council in order to put the kibosh on any significant land use.
Snowy Plovers? Have they been saved? Any headway on their comeback? Where’s the data? It’s all a scam! Yet, it keeps taxpayers off their own beach in Lompoc! Yes, using the ESA is but one tactic the left uses against the public. The other is converting valuable farmland into “land trusts,” thereby making thousands of acres as “off limits” to food production and other meaningful uses. Not to mention , removing these valuable land parcels off the tax roles! Similarly, the recent “Chumash Marine Sanctuary,” has been used to remove nearly 5,000 square miles from public use and gives it to a make believe band of Indians, some of which can’t even prove their tribal lineage! Oh but wait, there’s a carve out for a Wind Farm in Morro Bay, otherwise, the scheme involves making the coastal waters between Gaviota and Monterrey Bay as off limits to oil exploration and commercial fishing!
Folks, this what the disloyal left does, they use our laws against us the taxpayers, in order to promote their radical climate ideology! This is such a scandal and rouse, you simply can’t make this stuff up!
Let's declare human babies an endangered species; as non-replacement numbers are a humanitarian crisis. Human babies deserve the same protections offered salamanders.
Maybe Trump or Musk can expose this corrupt money laundry/power grab scheme that the Dems and Repukes (Enviros) use to line their filthy pockets with OUR hard earned stolen tax money. Trump and Musk have a long row to hoe to clean up this corrupt country.
PS, anyone watching how Syria collapsed so quickly with the fact that Trump is back? Hmmm?
Syria has been teetering for decades. Good to re-read Thomas Friedman's "Lexus and the Olive Tree", written before 9-11, to best understand the simmering tensions in this part of the globe.
What was Obama really doing in Benghazi -- running a Rat Line to Syrian rebels? Out comes the shadowy role of AVAZZ again - the global clicktivist operation linked to Syrian rebels and even the global spread of the "covid" mass hysteria. NGO's need a lot more scrutiny - too many decisions affecting our lives are not made at the top and in public.
Assad has seemingly gone into hiding. As he should, for his crimes against humanity and should be a wanted criminal by Interpol! Ironically, very similar to the downfall of Gaddafi. People should remember that the hated “Ba’ath Party” was very active in Syria just as it was in Iraq with Saddam Hussein. Syria is a patchwork of ethnic groups, with the Kurds controlling much of the north. Can’t help but wonder if the Israeli Mossad was behind this coup. Special attention needs to be given in securing the massive troves of chemical weapons amassed by Assad and his criminal father.
I heard that Israel already took out one of the chem sites in Syria.
Do you think the Syria will be divided up per each of the war lords, ie Kurds get north etc.
What I laugh at is how the Syria bureaucrats were so quick to say, "we don't care who is in power, we will stay in place". I hope people understand that the bureaucrats in Syria are the SAME as our bureaucrats in USA. Ass sucking money grubbing leaches that are part of the big problems in the world.
Send a copy of this to Elon Musk for him to put the endangered species act under his microscope. Congress can pass an act, but if the bureaucracy is nor there to implement stupidity upon us, it becomes moot.
Virtue-signaling "environmentalism" is the big vote getter in Santa Barbara. Mindless zero tolerance is their floor; not their ceiling.
The obvious culprits are the local voters and those whom they keep electing to federal policy setting positions: that would be former Lois Capps and her current side-kick Salud "Lompoc is the armpit of SB County" Carbajal.
Even more fun, there is an equally protected burrowing owl that lives in the same dunes and eats the snowy plover's eggs. So now we can't take our dogs to those "protected" beaches, or ride horses and mules on the sand, all to protect the little birdies. One more human pleasure denied for the sake of an evolutionary agenda.
Who cares about those stupid salamanders. It’s not as tho the S.B. swamps are the only place they live - as you say, there are millions of them in other habitats. $5 Mil to keep ‘em happy here? Forget it!
Okay, I'll admit it. I'm a sub-species in CA. Born in Michigan, moved to Arizona when I was 10, then landed here when I was 25. And I turned 65 last month. I feel like my vernal pool that I live in (Westside of SB) could be bought and developed. I am endangered, yes or no?
California Tiger Salamanders are a separate species; related to Tiger Salamanders but are separate. From PubMed: "The geological history of the California landscape is consistent with molecular clock evidence suggesting that the Santa Barbara unit has been isolated for at least 0.74-0.92 Myr, and the Sonoma clade is equally ancient." (How old is the species of human? Half of that?)
CTSs became endangered by habitat loss and introduced species. Perhaps the vernal pool is disappearing because we pump water from aquifers that are getting further and further from the surface. Maybe that is also why river beds are running drier and not able to provide steelhead habitat as much as in the past.
BTW, Snowy Plovers are also a unique species. Two different species mate and produce a subspecies? That is not how biology works.
This reminds me of the government/ environmentalist attempt to repopulate the often (usually) dry creeks of Southern and Central coastal California with steelhead trout. Many millions of taxpayer dollars have been expended with what evidence that it has made a difference?
These are all ways to launder money.
They don’t give 2 sh#s about nature.
But to your point they are Godless people who believe in evolution, survival of the fittest? Yet they refuse to allow nature to take its course, when they can steal tax payer monies.

Criminal syndicate, called government.
Free booze in 'Frisco? Put me in coach!

Send all the CA politicians to Georgia, we'll take care of them. We'll start with feeding them with all the salamanders they can eat.
Does this mean I could stop my neighbor from building his house if I 'imported' a few salamanders and called the bleeding-hearts?
Interesting article, Andy, and my question is what can the taxpayers (all of us) do to stop this insanity or is it too late? Can we ever get the names of the actual people who dream up these scams and hold them accountable?

Wow, excellent comparison 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Oh, but the "rights of women" will be trampled. What about the rights of all the unborn women?
Maybe Trump or Musk can expose this corrupt money laundry/power grab scheme that the Dems and Repukes (Enviros) use to line their filthy pockets with OUR hard earned stolen tax money. Trump and Musk have a long row to hoe to clean up this corrupt country.

My understanding is the snowy plovers are also a subspecies.
In other words two separate species mated and created a subspecies. That’s why where are so few of them.
Now we spend untold resources and limit our ability to occupy where they nest as if it was a species in decline.
Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Even more fun, there is an equally protected burrowing owl that lives in the same dunes and eats the snowy plover's eggs. Heck no Dan - good diversified stock. The 'endangered' are the coveted, intellectual smart-asses who think they know what's best for the rest of us.
California Tiger Salamanders are a separate species; related to Tiger Salamanders but are separate.
