I have trouble, (yawn) staying awake while reading anything about Kamala. For the life of me, I can’t understand why a politician would write a novel, then have a subsequent book tour about their own failures and incompetence!
The California governor’s race is about to get interesting as the word on the street is that the knives are out between Gavin and Kamala. Ya, don’t think it’s a coincidence that authorities hauled off Gavin’s former Chief of Staff to jail for embezzlement. This could get messy for Gavin…let’s hope so!
In the end, Kamala will fade into irrelevance having screwed up our economy so bad. I mean really, “The Inflation Reduction Act” was no more than a payoff to all her homies!
As for Kamala’s slippery husband, Doug Emhoff, Kamala might want to keep an eye on him, especially when around the hired help,…nanny’s, maids, personal trainers, gardeners etc.
"Book sales" can be used as money laundering pay to play devices. Probably needs a separate investigation to see if there is a kick-back payola element to these remarkable sales by all failed Democrat politicians.
How many "best sellers" does Michelle Obama already have in her name? Chaucer's front door book display table would be virtually empty most of the time, if not for one more Michelle Obama latest "best seller".
Well, John Thomas, the point of Mr. Zepke's writing (some might say obsessing) about Kamala is, of course, distraction. Namely, distraction from the multiple failures of our current Grifter-in-Chief, be it his promised release of the Epstein files, inflation, the wars he promised to "end on day one," the pay-to-play pardoning of myriad criminals ranging from crypto billionaire "CZ" to British billionaire Joe Lewis to George Santos to the J-6ers to the depending-if-she-sings Ghislaine Maxwell. And the point of the nascent war with Venezuela? -- more distraction. Buckle up.
Mr. Johnson, you are entitled to your own opinion but not to your own set of facts. I wrote the piece because of Harris blaming everybody else for her defeat rather than her own record which, by the way, includes 4 years of her administrations failure to release the Epstein files.
Peter...to be clear...absent another explanation for the signage removal, I do not agree with erasing history regardless of who is behind it...tearing down statues or removing historical references. Your post informed me of something of which I was completely aware. I recently visited a slavery museum in Charleston, SC. Very sad and moving...lots of culpability to go around...but a very dark period for civilization.
True...those signs were initiated by infamous race hustler Jesse Jackson's son Jesse Jackson Jr.....before he went to jail. History of slavery should not be erased...or politicized.
Why the obsession with what is OVER? What about NOW? What about inflation and the cost of living? What about the self (trump)-made explosion of healthcare costs? What about the abuses happening in the name of border control? What about the grift and greed of Trump and the mega-rich? (Not to mention the grotesque gold in the White House) What about the willful destruction of our history (not all of which is pretty)? What about the lies that are spoken by the administration which are so obviously lies? What about the alienation of so many of our allies? What about the sheer cruelty of people like Steven Miller? What about more murders due to lack of any gun control? What about the obvious cover up of the Epstein files for whomever was such a low life as to have participated? I keep thinking there will be some even measured reflection. Kamala? Really?
Inflation is down significantly from 2024 and close to the 2% target rate. The explosion in healthcare cost can be traced to Obamacare. How is it an abuse to deport an illegal alien, it is called law enforcement. It is Trump's gold and he can put it where he wants. The only history Trump wants to destroy is that destruction caused by Democrat governance. Why do you really hate Trump so much? Are you afraid of losing your SNAP benefits? Is your government check at risk? Afraid of losing your Medical?
You can’t reason with people like this Jeff. She’s clearly a victim of a public school education. A glittering jewel of ignorance and quite happy to be so.
Totally twisted but that’s what you choose to believe. I’m not at all afraid for myself. How cynical of you to point to losing SNAP benefits or healthcare. If you were one of those people targeted, you might have a very different point of view. Do you not have ANY compassion for those who are suffering?
Do a little homework on the SNAP and healthcare issue. I understand you have the Democrat talking points down pat, but take a moment and look at the data and the history of Obamacare and the SNAP program.
If you support those programs, you would necessarily have to at least marginally agree that they have been grossly abused and are in desperate of repair if they are to be preserved going forward (i.e., 186,000 dead people currently receiving SNAP) That would require a degree of objectivity.
It's one thing to repeat empty political talking points... another to actually sit down and look at the hard data. Clearly this is not the forum to debate details.
Quick question...do you support illegal aliens receiving taxpayer supported benefits, i.e. the $9.5 Billion CA spents annually on medical services for illegals?...other than a plane ticket home?
I’m not defending either program. I’m simply stating that Trump is doing nothing to change them for the better, offer a different solution…do ANYTHING to take care of the real people who need help. Re: immigration, I WILL defend American citizens and people doing the right thing legally to be here being swept off the streets and disappeared. If you think that’s a Democratic talking point…fine. It’s happening. I’m all for the criminals and drug dealers being deported but what is happening is too often completely inhumane.
If you even remotely are to have credibility with the mantra of "sweeping American citizens off the street", please provide concrete, verifiable examples other than potentially isolate anecdotal incidents. Otherwise that's a subject you should consider dropping.
Also, unless I'm misunderstanding your reply, you suggested you want to be able to pick and choose which illegal aliens are deported. I wish I had that latitude when it came to the IRS or any other federal laws that I don't particularly agree where I can unilaterally decide laws which apply to me and those I can ignore. Welcome to America.
Your statement about Trump not doing anything to make those programs better indicates to me that you have not really done your homework.
I understand that you have a great deal of contempt for Trump... to the point of being angry...a condition known as TDS...as is certainly you're right, but conflating emotion with facts really isn't helpful. Anyway, I will assume you are a no vote on Trumps third term.
Did it ever occur to you that healthcare is expensive because the government throws money at it in the name of affordability which naturally drives up the cost. Same thing with college tuition being driven sky high by the unlimited availability af government student loans. There is truly nothing so expensive as that which the government has sought to make affordable. Good thing for the Democrat party that many are economically illiterate, it is the voting base of the party.
Jeff Barton’s Republican math where a 50% error is close enough 2% vs 3.01%. What percentage does inflation need to DECREASE to hit 2%? The answer is 33%. Yet Inflation is UP 23.44% from a year ago. “Starting on day one, we will end inflation and make America affordable again, to bring down the prices of all goods.”
"Under my administration we will be slashing energy and electricity prices by half within 12 months, at a maximum 18 months," he told a rally in August 2024. Meanwhile electricity prices are up 10% and slated to increase substantially as AI centers come on line.
The east wing of the White House has been demolished and there’s a dumpster fire in the west wing. Republicans: Nothing to see here.
Why don’t you hold the current administration accountable?
It is within 1% of the target rate in absolute not relative terms. This is a vast improvement to 9% under Biden the idiot. If inflation was 0.1% and increased to 0.2% then you would say inflation doubled, I would say inflation is low. So at 3% inflation vs 2% your dallar next year is worth 97 vs 98 cents. Relative to your original dollar it is a 1% or 1 cent difference. Drug companies pull this same bullshit of expressing findings in relative rather than absolute terms. A fine example is studies linking cholesterol to heart disease where there is an apparent correlation in relative terms but in absolute terms the association is weak. Do you take statins?
Non answer. I asked why you don’t hold the current administration accountable. Not a justification for your faulty math. And if you think real inflation is only 3%, I have a flying car you might be interested in.
I hold the current administration accountable for closing the border for beating down inflation, for cutting wasteful climate spending, for dismantling DEI programs, for getting men out of women's sports. This administration is so much better than the Biden or God forbid that idiot Harris that Trump beat.
Check out the recent PPI, nothin’ to see there. They won’t even release October jobs #’s because they tarnish the tin pot dictator’s image and illuminate his lies.
What have you been smoking/drinking/injecting! Try pulling your head out of your ass long enough to see what’s actually happening because it’s obviously buried so far up there you’re staring at the backside of your tonsils
Hi Elaine, I'm here to back you up and offer a suggestion.
Indeed, what about those things, those horrid arrangements people find themselves in after being promised a better life from the authoritarians, then later come to see that no one gives a shit about them. Those people are you and me, too. Every human, not in the ruling class, is a victim to a rigged system, one that's been oppressing humanity for thousands of years.
My attempt in writing is reduce your suffering. I don't ride a high horse as I'm suffering too. I don't know if Donald Trump is the bane of your frustration, but if he is, why is that? If it's because he's evil, and does evil things, in your opinion, why limit your understanding to only Donald Trump? And if he is the foundation of your frustration, why pour energy into dealing with agitated people, who think they despise you, and support they very thing you despise? These wasteful and detrimental actions--wasting life-energy on people you already, know, think* they despise you- seperate you from your personal conviction, if you have any, and squash your consideration for anything other than your guided understanding of how the ruling class wants you to perceive and behave in their constructed social reality.
There's no Red/Blue, white vs black or brown, gay/straight. When our reality becomes corrupted, and we live out divide and conquer PSYOPs, a tool used to control for thousands of years, we unknowingly become enslaved to asystem that perpetuates the very thing we think we're combating, and we bleed and suffer for these elites while they pay really savvy people to construct more insidious ways to control and corrupt our minds.
This may not strike you as truth, or maybe you're addicted to the anxiety and the hate overflowing in the world, but I thought you reasonable. I wouldn't spend a second commenting that others guy’s post. Using language as ammunition against people only suggests the owner of that hate has little consideration for knowledge, and needs baby words to beat his chest like a gorilla.
Classical liberalism is dead. There's no democracy. There's the TRUE, and only actual minority, and then there's the rest of us. The minority is telling you to hate your neighbor and kill for their fake political ideologies. The divide is not real. It's one system.
I think it's still relevant to discuss her because she still considers herself a viable candidate and it's a horrifying possibility. Luckily, (I think) with Newsome (misspelling intentional) lusting after the White House the way he is...the two of them will end up savaging each other and neither of them will survive as the '28 nominee. But putting down the crystal ball...I'm surprised the author forgot a main plank in her promises of expertise at the beginning of her term. Like the border czar, she was also the figure head of the ship that sailed with the cannabis industry. Remember that? It must run chills down the spine of cannabis supporters just how far the pendulum swings the other way now with the new hemp laws banning a trace of legal THC in hemp products. Other than that omission...I found it a good article.
My point is not that the Democrats had it all right. It is that THIS administration is not doing anything to fix the problems. All it does is blame Obama and Biden. Nothing is being done. There is no plan and, worse….Trump is making the problems (inflation, healthcare, immigration) WORSE. The Republicans are in charge. You have all the power. What are you doing with it? That’s my point.
What are you smoking? The words of a true idiot. Inflation is way way way down from 2024. I bet you do not understand that low inflation does not mean that prices are going down but rather that price increases are minimal. Illegal immigration is essentially zero, something the Biden administration claimed they needed a bill to spend billions yet Trump the genius did it without no stinking bill. I am not sure what healthcare problems you are referring to but I am sure your ideas are informed by nothing
I can't speak for Elaine but thanks for asking! It was my 66th birthday yesterday, and I smoked some home grown, given to me a year ago. It has a nice mellow buzz.
I think you are being a little hard on Elaine. She posts w/o insults. If you have a problem with her POV, fine. Just don't be such a dick. (it's my birthday, I can insult)
Jeff, did you do anything noteworthy? You're not that old, and Google's void on you makes you sound like a loser - or perhaps you worked for a spook agency? All your 70-year-old UCLA cohorts seem to have productive carrers.... If you were 80, I'd get it. I'm sure even post-docs had their names tagged onto papers? You seem to judge folks by their contributions a lot - and I don't see any local Bartons on any boards, or anything. Now feel free to bash me and Google.
I retired at 50. I know engineers who have made 100's of million in technology with brilliant careers who you wont find on Google. Probably more useful to do a patent search if you want to know about the career of a scientist or engineer. What you can find on the internet is quite limited bit it is apparently enough to define the universe to many small minds.
Retired at 50 from working in the back labs of the liberal and lazy hordes of UCSB, Caltech and JPL? Then FLIR? Does FLIR give you a certificate and a bonus for each patent? I guess working for the government or a defacto government firm would make you grumpy. I could only handle it a few years. You must have invested well.
Hard to claw back government handouts but if the government just stopped subsidizing healthcare the costs would go down. Thought experiment: if people paid their own healthcare bills providers would charge what is affordable to the average person or go out of business. The only need for insurance would then be a high deductible plan for catastrophic injury or illness. Of course the bellyaching of the Democrats over losing their handouts would make me sick.
Affordable care act increased my premiums to $1000 per month. I don't care who it is popular with, it increases cost and reduces quality of care. Socialized medicine is hugely popular with the healthcare industry and especially pharma. How else to cash in on all the chronic illness caused by vaccines if not bankrolled by the government. No point in making people sick if they cant afford the treatment. Quite a racket.
Jeff, at your age, are you really paying more for health care than you're getting billed for? But, in part, I do agree that if folks had some skin in the game and had to pay more if they had crappy lifestyles, they might think more about their health
I understand your point, and am simply suggesting that creating stress for ourselves by arguing for or against a constructed political-thratre-party is useless; in fact, it's worse than useless. Those people on tv spitting lies, and the easily purchased publications available to us are fabrications. These people hate us. Believe that.
Democrats and their government employee unions never care about inflation, because they get automatic COLA. Such a sweet deal, a back door to an automatic raise due to inflation they themselves created by their continued reckless fiscal policies
Democrats have built in a "heads we win, tails you lose" into their political majority advantages. From your local school boards on up the government union-bargained food chain. One more reason Democrats fight so hard to sit on both sides of the public bargaining table.
When a government employee's total compensation package (aka cost to taxpayers) goes up due automatic COLA, along with any increasing pension and health care payments, they got a "raise". And since taxpayers are required fund these additional government employee union-bargained expenses 100%, we the taxpayers did not get a raise.
The Harris commentary is if nothing more than a commentary on the failure of the former administration to exercise control and management of the government.
Negotiation of treaties is a boast of the Governor of the no longer great state of Calif. If the quote of the Constitution is correct (I believe it) then the Harris statement is not true or in direct violation of law.
As the computer control and "physical printers" have developed the ability of the bad guys to make and sell guns has basically made the issue of government taking of them in the process of reducing gun violence moot. It has been reported multiple times in the last year of ghost guns being confiscated by criminals. Among those criminals are the rioters you see on the streets.
When the like of Gates states climate change is not the primary issue facing the world it means the long term facts of the sky is falling groups is working against them.
You have Blue states across the nation who are literally "driving" themselves into long term debt that has two options. Reverse the welfare state and the communal governance. OR Continue as the State of Calif. has done for decades building costs that are unsustainable as we have seen with repeated $Billion deficits.
Did AI write this article? And did I miss the campaign news that "Tampon Tim" Walz was replaced in favor of small town Mayor Pete for her VP candidate, as implied by this article, and poor Kamala only had 107 days to do it, but couldn't get it done?!
Go back and read that sentence again for comprehension. Harris later did explain why she allegedly did not pick Buttigieg. Never sensed there as much love lost between those two anyway, since I believe she was the one who turned Buttigeig in to the media, for being MIA those early months of the Biden administration.
She farmed out her final VP vetting to Obama's wing man Eric Holder, who may or may not have had her best interests at heart. Not sure she actually did much of this on her own, but was rather handed her VP pick There was not a large talent pool. Nor probably that many willing to stake their own political future on this furtive cause
.It appears Harris did not benefit from an all hands in team effort from her own party. Nor did she ever earn it.
I have not read Vice-president Harris’ book 107 days, but I did go through your article, pointing out what you see as her failures. You mentioned the Safer Communities Act, and you asked the question, do you feel safer? I can honestly and truly say I do not feel safe, but it has nothing to do with guns.
Here’s a few reasons why. There are storm troopers, taking Brown people off the streets, pulling them out of their houses, cars and just disappearing them. Our freedom of speech is being suppressed. One of my major fears is our health department seems to be going backwards. RFK, Jr is concerned with vaccines that have been proven, safe and effective. He wants to redirect the way they were administered and how often. Childhood diseases had been controlled and pretty much eradicated, but just this year we heard about measle outbreaks in Texas and New Mexico. RFK Jr should be concerned with all the research that was eliminated due to budget cuts, any progress made has been halted. It seems like trump is selling America piece by piece just to line his pockets and he doesn’t seem to care what he’s doing to our democracy. So no, I do not feel safe.
I have trouble, (yawn) staying awake while reading anything about Kamala. For the life of me, I can’t understand why a politician would write a novel, then have a subsequent book tour about their own failures and incompetence!

Well she saw it fit to write a 300 page book about herself. Personally, I never get tired of reading what incompetent fools are the Democrats.
We learn from our past...the good, the bad and the ugly. Ignore history at your own peril.
TVW, your statement rings so true!

I think you are being a little hard on Elaine. She posts w/o insults. If you have a problem with her POV, fine. Just don't be such a dick. (it's my birthday, I can insult)
Nice to have something to boast about for your birthday. Did you do anything else noteworthy for your BD?
Jeff, did you do anything noteworthy? You're not that old, and Google's void on you makes you sound like a loser - or perhaps you worked for a spook agency? All your 70-year-old UCLA cohorts seem to have productive carrers.... If you were 80, I'd get it. I'm sure even post-docs had their names tagged onto papers? You seem to judge folks by their contributions a lot - and I don't see any local Bartons on any boards, or anything. Now feel free to bash me and Google.
Not sure of your point. Hostile for sure but what are you trying to say?
I'm usually late to everything. Happy Birthday:

We forgive...it's not you...it's the weed talking...
Your nastiness doesn’t deserve a reply
I'm guessing the administration will be announcing their Obamacare replacement any day now, right? It's been a decade in the making.
JB, the ACA is also extremely popular with Trump voters, as well as MAGA voters. It enjoys overwhelming support of a majority of voters.

What do you advocate for instead?
Jeff, at your age, are you really paying more for health care than you're getting billed for? But, in part, I do agree that if folks had some skin in the game and had to pay more if they had crappy lifestyles, they might think more about their health
Lol, inflation is down. Bro...... I'm outta here. Y'all are completely wasting your time talking AT each other
Jeff, you're either brainwashed, or, evil. So which is it?
I understand your point, and am simply suggesting that creating stress for ourselves by arguing for or against a constructed political-thratre-party is useless; in fact, it's worse than useless. Those people on tv spitting lies, and the easily purchased publications available to us are fabrications. These people hate us. Believe that.
Inflation's dirty little secret.
Heads they win, tails we lose.
The comment on confiscatory inflation is clear.
Thanks again for a step wise view.
Give Kamala a break. Being a narcissist she can’t control her behavior.
So she is another "victim" and not captain of her own soul or master of her own fate? By golly, she does have a (D) by her name. You are right.
