I sent my ballot off already. It looks like we are in agreement top to bottom. I notice you stayed away from endorsing Special District elections. I encourage anyone living in the Santa Ynez Community Services District to vote for me, Karen Jones, an incumbent Director. I am an excellent representative of the District and I am the only stake holder on the board. The other Directors either rent or are on septic. I am also the only Director with perfect meeting attendance. Finally, a vote for me is a vote against political persecution. I am currently serving a 90 day house arrest sentence after pleading guilty to a single misdemeanor, entering and remaining in a restricted area. I dared to go to the Capitol on January 6, 2021 to peacefully protest against what I still believe was a rigged election. The Judge specifically stated her intention to keep me from participating in as many election cycles as possible because I am a “danger to democracy”. I hope voters will recognize the courage it takes to continue to “fight, fight, fight” for our freedom when the full weight of the government and its institutions identify you as the enemy. Donald Trump is my inspiration because he loves America as much as I love America.
Nothing is wrong with renting or being on septic. In many cases it is preferable. The SY CSD is primarily a board that maintains our sewer collection system. Our home was hooked up to sewer in the first wave of installments in the early 1980s. There are approximately 800 homes in Santa Ynez currently on the sewer system. The sewer bill is paid along with the property tax bill so renters are often less aware of the rise in the cost of waste collection. That doesn’t mean renters are not impacted, because landlords usually raise rent to cover the increased expense.
One of our Directors, Frank Redfern, currently rents a home in the District He is a SYUHS graduation with deep ties to the valley and to the SY CSD. He is an excellent Director and currently the Board President. I nominated Director Redfern for that position because of his knowledge, judgement and deep concern that the Santa Ynez Valley grows in a responsible fashion.
Many of the readers here are aware of the people who are anxious to rapidly develop Santa Ynez without regard for how that impacts current residents. It would be dangerous and irresponsible to have a SY Board of Directors beholden to the people who financially benefit from more tourism or building large apartment complexes. Those things may eventually overtake our small Township and change the character of our home forever, but we must work with everyone involved to make certain we proceed in a responsible manner that considers safety, traffic and overall quality of life of those whose lives are invested in the safety and serenity of our homes.
Prior to me being elected to the board in 2016, the SY CSD Board of Directors annexed almost 400 homes into the District. The roll out was bungled and left many of the newly annexed people unhappy since those newly annexed homes were happily on septic and felt like they were forced into the District without proper notification. It has been 9 years and we still do not have the infrastructure in place to offer sewer service to those 400 homes, primarily because most do not want to pay for the service as they are happy with their septic system. Since being annexed into the District, those people should and do have representation. During the previous term 3 out of 5 Directors lived in the annexed area without access to sewer collection, giving them a majority say in District policy.
I like that our board is diverse but I think the homes that are actually direct customers of the SY CSD should have a strong voice representing their interests since they make up 2/3 of the District. That was my point when I said I am currently the only Director that is a customer of the SY CSD.
Thank you Jim and James, for the list and for SB Current. I've been here commenting nearly every day because I think what you are doing is so important and I've wanted to show support for you, the columnists and the readers. You've given Santa Barbara a truly alternative publication. You've given people a place where they are able to compare notes and express their views. For me, one of the hardest things about the last eight years was realizing that people who I thought were friends for decades and who knew the kind of person I am, suddenly stopped talking to me simply because I supported Trump. They called me a racist, xenophobe, Eva Braun, horrible immoral Nazi, etc., etc. btw, these were only my white friends who turned on me. It was ultimately a great learning lesson because I realized they never were my friends and that I'd based friendship on intellectual and artistic camaraderie rather than character.
So thank you all for your sharing your ideas, experiences, beliefs and most of all, friendship. After the election I'm going to take a break from politics, but I'll be here until the 5th.
I just read this and want to share it because it's so seldom that Hollywood people stand up for Trump. It's by Vivian Kubrick, daughter of Stanley Kubrick in response to criticism of Trump using her father's anti-war film Full Metal Jacket in an promo:
Stanley Kubrick's daughter on Trump using her dad's Full Metal Jacket in his campaign:
TO THOSE WHO THINK MY FATHER WOULDN’T HAVE WANTED #TRUMP TO USE FMJ FOOTAGE
Here are my thoughts: I agree in principle that an anti-war movie is incongruous with promoting the idea of a tough non-woke US military and thus war itself - however - these are very dangerous and strange times and thus using this footage is doubtless pure expedience.
Because I’m sure the irony of using FMJ footage is not lost on Trump or his team - Trump is always seeking to end wars and use peaceful methods. However, that’s primarily what FMJ is about, the shocking and complicated paradoxes of human nature.
And thus, on this tooth and claw planet, you need a very strong military - so I’m going to stick with the idea that FMJ footage was used primarily because of its powerful, realistic portrayal of boot camp, juxtaposed with the entirely demoralizing and inappropriate injection of WOKE ideology into the USA military. Which I agree with myself and which I’m certain my father would have agreed with.
Truthfully, I believe my father (who supported Reagan), would very much approve of saving America, indeed the world, from the highly destructive Globalist forces threatening to take over this planet. And if that footage from FMJ helps Trump make the point that the US military needs properly trained, super tough, focused, dedicated warriors, and not introduce the demoralizing effects of woke-ism, and attracting people to join up simply to have their sexual reassignments paid for, then Trump has my blessing.
Finally, knowing my father very well, I can assure you he had a profound grasp of how paradoxical human nature is! Which accounts for how at the same time he made anti-war films, he had a great passion for guns (self-defense not hunting) and he had quite a few!
My father had a great respect for life - his movies being unimpeachable evidence of his love for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness! So on that basis, I feel very confident he would be a Trump supporter and would forgive using FMJ incongruously, if it helps the cause of freedom!
So Pol, you're taking the 5th on the 5th? No, don't leave us!
Your so-called friends are fair weather Wokies for sure.
I’m plenty sick of the whole Woke thing. I was just temp-banned on another forum. Get this:
A few of us were talking about men, women, marriage etc. I posted:
“I figured out my new wife wasn’t a very good cook when I came into the kitchen and found a bunch of Pygmies dipping their arrows in her gravy.” The site-admin said “Disparaging people . . blah blah blah.” I said hey jerk, it was a joke! But he didn’t get it.
That's hilarious! Your remark I mean. David Zucker, who was one of the directors of Airplane! in 1980 was recently asked if he thought they could make it today, ge said sure, they could make Airplane! today, they'd just have to leave out all the jokes.
Red in political sensibilities. But blue-nosed over this choice of lead graphics. Just saying. Don’t like seeing Lady Justice always in full pike either.
Offensive, alienating graphic intended to objectify females; to message, a blow below the belt. Definitely one in poor taste. I doubt during our lifetimes that females will be respected for our minds, our diverse abilities to manage, organize, juggle, and succeed in multiple areas. Fortunately, not all males are alike.
High School elections. It’s about lying to the people, telling them what they want to hear and then not delivering on any promise.
I remember when Mike Jordan ran five years ago. He took money from short term rental companies telling them he had their backs.
Then he threw them under the bus and offered no protection to them.
Our Mayor has been in office for three terms and not one person can answer what positive impacts he has had. It’s all excuses how he’s always been a minority conservative. Which is not true. He was at City Hall with more conservatives, but he still was ineffective.
Look at our government officials from stock boys to camera assistants to professional politicians.
Not one has contributed in a meaningful way to our public office. Some have endangered lives and cost us millions in attorney fees defending their purposeful bad decisions.
They have pushed some fluff pieces through here and there to make it look like they care about you, but when you look at their actual track records and trace spending you can see the pattern of self serving interests.
But the people, like children at high school elections are naive enough and never hold the politicians accountable.
And those that are awake, who choose to not vote, well you’re just as bad. Worse even because you are too lazy to fill out the ballot on your kitchen counter.
Republicans fail for numerous reasons, primarily because Republican voters are too lazy or shy to stand up for what’s right. They refuse to vote and refuse to help candidates and do not donate even $20 to a candidate.
If you do not vote you are not allowed to complain. In fact we should blame you same as we all blame the Democrats who have been running this town into the ground for decades.
Did you support term limits, Brian? That insured no politician ever needs to be accountable to voters again. Just accountable to the outside forces that installed them.
Great advice! I hope people read this, and vote their pocketbook, their spiritual values and use their minds, not the emotions triggered by the DNC MSM WEF Yada Yada cabal. 4 years of Harris / Walz is a nightmare to contemplate. More bonds and taxes is Einstein’s definition of insanity.
We are praying daily for God’s mercy on a nation which allows and encourages the evils of killing the unborn and castrating mixed up adolescents. This election may be America's last chance.
This should be a “no brainer” for anyone who is concerned about our future. It’s as easy as; prosperity vs. bankruptcy, safety vs. fear, strength vs. weakness and sane immigration vs. open borders.
The left’s never ending cabal for spending our taxes into insolvency must end. We as conservatives need to revolt against the abysmal track record of the left liberal woke and expose the union corruption and control over our state and local governments.
We are on the brink of another tax revolt again in this state. And it cannot come soon enough.
Sadly, SBCC is a microcosm for irresponsible one-party domination of what was intended to be a non-partisan taxpayer-funded higher education opportunity. We don’t need to look just at national politics to learn what we let happen in our own local community.
Partisan politics became a take no prisoners blood sport, primarily due to the huge amount of unaccountable public tax dollars now at stake.
The American Republic is an immoral construct, it's finances should be mirror it's spirital and moral bankruptcy. Why should an immoral society be allowed to flourish? Besides America is rooted in modernism, why not let it crumble under the weight of its sins (liberalism) and modernist foundations, seems a rather fitting end.
Guys and Gals, not to worry! My father in law was Reagan's northern California's finance Director - I was his 'assistant'. We weren't sure the country would buy Reagan's act even tho he'd been CA gov for 8 years. You saw what happened! The same thing is gonna happen this time - a Trump/Vance _avalanche_! Mark my words - Trump’s gonna _sweep_ into office and start kicking ass on day one! Those Commie-Dem jerks and their phony lawsuits are gonna find out just how ‘righteous’ Trumpy can be - I just hope he has time for some payback.
That’s great EB, I hope it happens. Then the next order of business for Trump is to open a can of whoop ass on the Democrats. Yes, Federal indictments for the Biden crime syndicate, then indictments to follow for AG Merrick Garland, and Sec HLS Alejandro Mayorkas for starters. Then flush the traitors out of State, NSA, FBI, CIA, Treasury..the list goes on. There needs to be retribution and payback for the crimes committed and conspired by the left. Work on keeping Harris in check via Congress and start healing the wounds brought on by a man child who knows nothing about honor, the Constitution and principled leadership.
can someone please explain where Steve Garvey is? I have not seen or heard him or of him on tv, radio, other media, in print, campaigning anywhere or anywhere else. It's like a ghost campaign. Of course he keeps sending me solicitations for another donation which I refused until I could see what he was spending it on and whether he actually wanted to become our Senator. I'm having my doubts. What's going on anyhow?
Be sure and look at the impact of each of their policies on both the deficit and inflation. Different economists have analyzed each and come rto the same conclusion. I invite you investigate further.

How about a direct comparison of the policies of both Trump and Harris??? You could do a great service with that!!! Would be good for "sharing"
Where can we first find a list of Harris policies?
Right here. She and Trumps websites have the same plus signs.

I'm having my doubts. What's going on anyhow?
