Because there's too much money to be made off of it for too many people. As far as I can tell, people who feel they're not the gender they were born with have been around forever. But for centuries this wasn't a goldmine for big pharma and the surgical industry. It was dealt with in a creative way. The trans people I saw in NYC were extraordinary performers of the opposite sex to what they were given. Charles Ludlum's Ridiculous Theatrical Company was genius. The hardest hearted theater critics wept over his performance of Camille, saying it outdid Greta Garbo. And now we come to the difference between creation and destruction: art of the sort these drag performers did was, I believe, them channeling the divine spirit. What's so wrong about what's happening now with puberty blockers, gender changing surgery for children is the people doing it think they are higher than god.
