We are now in the most tumultuous part of the changes. I fully expect that this column today will be littered with commenters yakking about Epstein and Trump and how that overshadows anything Obama might have done to create Russiagate. Okay, have at your “Trump was photographed with Epstein and that proves he's the horrible Orange Man!” You are being childish played by the media. The number of people photographed with Epstein or at his island is so large it probably includes friends and relatives or friends of friends and relatives of relatives of yours. Give it up. What Obama did should put him in jail. And the legacy media that applauded themselves for putting Nixon there, should also join Obama.

Reminder of a prior post: An author who studied transitions of all types, found three common stages in all of them. He also concluded this three step progression could not be avoided nor taken out of order. (1) mourning for what is lost - (2) necessary interregnum chaos- and finally (3) new beginnings. There is practical wisdom in what he concluded.

Of late we have lost the sense our government is competent, honest and endlessly bountiful - the promised Democrat Nanny State.

This remains the hardest part for many to let go and accept the mourning process it no longer exists - nor should it, since it was never an original intent of the founding of this nation.

So you are right Polly, we move now into the unsettling but appropriate period of chaos - letting go of the old and not yet understanding the new. There can be no universal government-run nanny state, which in turn throws personal responsibility for our selves, and yes even for others, back on to our selves personally as a social compact.

We need to mourn the reality there really is no tax dollar-funded blank check guarantee. The guarantee was the pursuit of happiness; not the taxpayer-funded guarantee of happiness.

Beautiful post JL, but don't you think we're a bit past 'interregnum chaos'? (between reigns). Trump is confirming his style, knowledge and ability every day.

elce's avatar

Thanks, but in my opinion knowing there are no bright lines in these transitional stages, we are are not past the current interregnum of chaos until we earn a new solid majority in both House and Senate.

Which means we need a very tight, focused message to keep moving forward and even some sort of functional quiescence from the "loyal opposition".

Do you really think we are really there yet? This period of change feels very ragged still, not yet seamless. Nor have there been any signs of mourning from the losing party. We ourselves need to change as much as the "other side" needs to change. We still have too many intra-party whingers expecting the worst, including the the worst being ........"nothing will happen".

It is our job to illustrate how much in fact is happening. And why it is a good thing. The continued viability of our own little local experiment in alternate view point journalism in this town is a major happening.

You are I are both on the shorter end of our mortal coils, but darn it I do want to be around to see this thing through and become another new morning in America. All hands on deck until at least our 250th national anniversary. Let's make sure that a splendid moment for everyone.

Here is my own take. Only voyeurs still demand getting their jollies off Epstein. It is a side show and the only wedge issue Democrats still think they can exploit. Horny little bastards that they are.

Those "girls" have settled out for cash long ago and have moved on into middle age, one principal is dead, one principal is in prison. Only prurient interest is left exposing any consenting adult johns. And if these unnamed johns are still in line to get exposed, they can take this up with the Democrats who forced this hand. Epstein is not a hill I want this current movement to die on. Nor shall it.

Let Democrats, still stuck in their terrible twos, keep smearing feces on the wall just to get shock value out of the adults. It may well all dribble out, but it shall remain a side show that Biden never bothered to clean up.

I read this article titled The Formidable Mr. Trump By David Samuel McCalmont

"It's possible to run off a roster of Trump's Greatest Hits in this kind of essay. At the top of anybody's list would be Closing the Border."

I have a new Title "The Formidable Russian's and Ukraine's At War"

President Trump stated "I can end the War in 24 Hours" Not a Greatest Hit.

That said it has been 6 months and Trump has in-a-way inherited Biden's War.

Why is this important now and to the US. Who started the Maiden Color Revolution?

This article, no puff peice is needed to hide/deflect from Trumps deep connectiuon with Epstien. Like many powerful men he is at the centre of this. So please stop the white washing:

Trump says he doesn't draw but auctioned sketches suggest otherwise, from rueters.

Trump also discussed his artistic talents in his 2008 book, Trump Never Give Up: How I Turned My Biggest Challenges Into Success. "It takes me a few minutes to draw something, in my case, it’s usually a building or a cityscape of skyscrapers, and then sign my name, but it raises thousands of dollars to help the hungry in New York through the Capuchin Food Pantries Ministry," Trump wrote.

We have a deeply corrupt political system. All that has happened is a diffferent corrupt lot are now at the helm. You may of may not like them, but be honest with yourself what you are actually supporting.

We need a leader who speaks to all of the country with a vision of where the country is going. We have a rabble rouser. An attempt to unite us would be Churchilian in style and beyond this small minded man.. Instead we get Mcarthy style petty, vindictive behaviour to get even with percieved enemies.

My school report on the first six months is more aligned with "people follow him out of curiosity as to what he will do next".

I love how Epstein is so important to everyone now because they think Trump is on the list, Talk of Epstein and what he and the other people did to children on the Island have been going on for 6 years now. . Have you seen the flight logs to the Island. Some of the dem darlings are on there.

The political system in California is deeply corrupt. In DC things are changing. The problem is you're used to thinking corrupt is the norm and someone that isn't corrupt is the problem.

What about the Autopen or the Russia gate, Schiff Mortgage Scandal and I could go on and on. This administration is trying to fix the corruption from the last 4 years.

The middle class choose him because of policies and why did the other side lose one can ask???? and why do those continually defend the horrific treatment of Americans, Christians and Conservatives the last 4 years. And who is continually destroying or communities and spreading hate?

I do not understand this digital us or them level of understanding. There are standards, principles that rise above party loyalty. May be not, each has to choose. I am against the mentality of "he may be a a scoundrel, but he is my scoundrel".

I believe Trump got in as a protest vote against the party in power. This has happed accross the western world. left out, right in, right out left in. It is simply the establishment are doing a poor job.

I have seen flight logs published in the UK. Clinton was flying there more than 20 times. Dershowitz is another who is very close to all of this. 1200 girls are believed to be invovled. That is a lot of priveledged males who had a good time and are now in hiding. The real reason this issue will not become public is precisely because so many powerful US males now wish to hide/walk away from their pleasures. Only a small time foriegn prince has been publically implicated.

Why support this behaviour?

Quite how a trump meme coin is unrelated to corruption is beyond me. This is you example of how difficult it is to clean the cess pit that is US politics in Washington.

In my view if you truly want a clean corrupt free society then Epstien is part of what needs to be made public.

Afterall didn't Trump campaingned on "I will release te Estein and JFK files?

Thank you David for a morning shot of reality. This mornings political cartoon of a Donkey wearing a straight jacket in lockdown is very apropos. It would seem that liberalism has indeed evolved and is synonymous with, a form of mental illness and instability. There are of course numerous examples of how this mental disorder manifests, fits of anger, rage, narcissism, even paranoia. The Left quite obviously is obsessed with a variety of social issues ie, Transgenderism, racism, green energy, Ukraine, illegal migration, the list of grievances goes on and on.

Are Conservatives a happier lot? I certainly think so. While Libs want to spend the rest of us into oblivion and lead us all down a path to utter destruction, we have to remain the adults in the room.

As for the shenanigans Obama was up to vis-a-vis Russia Gate, now would be a great time to for him to lawyer up! Yes, it appears what we have long suspected, the whole narrative was a con, set up and sham! Obama is alleged to be the chief conspirator attempting to frame Trump. Tulsi Gabbard is suggesting treason, and I tend to agree!

The Epstein story is a window into the moral bankruptcy, hedonism and greed of the ruling class. This crosses political lines. It is the common denominator between Democratic politicians, such as Bill Clinton, philanthropists, such as Bill Gates, the billionaire class, and Trump. They are one class of predators and grifters. It is not only girls and women they exploit, but all of us.

Yes, let's totally ignore Trump calling his own base "stupid people" "selfish" "weaklings" and denouncing anyone still talking about Epstein, deporting people who were legally here all because they opposed genocide, speech codes in academia, an AI statue of him in a resort town in Gaza with his bestie, bombing Iran, sending more of our weapons to keep the Ukraine proxy war going, when he promised to stop it....Instead, let's just blindly follow because we love our cult and the exclusionary clique is just too much fun.

Formidable you say? I say manic. Maga is in charge, they have the White House, Congress, and the house of representatives, which, luckily for taco is full of cowards and boot lickers, in fear for their jobs, forget the people they’re supposed to represent.

The pall of fear and despair still hangs heavily over the United States, for both sides. It is not gone, not by a long shot. The death grip is still present with an added touch of cruelty and cold heartlessness.

America first reigns supreme! JD Vance is enjoying Disneyland, although all the booing probably didn’t make it that enjoyable. Conservatives are happier than liberals. Could it be that tacos whirl wind of activity and his blizzard of EO’s doesn’t affect them in anyway, except to make them wealthier and maybe is it because maga conservatives are like taco, self-serving. Where as the liberals are concerned it’s about what happens to all their countryman, without prejudice or judgment.

You’re writing off the whole group of people. The transgenders don’t do it to be cool. As Lady Gaga sang, “You Were Born This Way”. Your article drips of condescending privileged white superiority with comments like “poor illegals in a wealthy land”, “formidable adversary”, shouldn’t the president be an ally to all his constituents? Then you state he has created even more fissures and fragmentations.

You liken the left to herpes, which can be treated. In turn the magas, and some right, which ever you prefer, to me, are like pancreatic cancer, it slowly and painfully kills the body.

Yes, the left is constantly saying or thinking WTF, as I’m sure plenty of sane Republicans are too. Your very last sentence proves my point. Taco and the Maga world, cruel and coldhearted.

Come clean and publish the info, a few photos do not matter. But there is the rub, It was not just a photo or two. The FBI has spent a huge amount of time, at least a 1000 agents vetting the Epstien files to identify Trump's presence. This smacks of a deep state cover up. We were promissed better.
