Self confessed “Gun Nut” here. Love guns, NRA longtime member, been around guns all my life owning several, experienced with all firearms including automatic weapons, grenade launchers, even qualified as “Expert” (highest level) in the Military.

I not only respect guns, I fear them. Always using caution and special care when handling and cleaning.

Do I support “Open Carry?” Yes, I do. Would I choose to carry? No, I wouldn’t. Why? Because not only is accidental discharge possible, but getting into a confrontation may lead to its use. Ever tried hitting a moving object? Trust me, it’s not easy! Then what? You miss and hit some little kid and your life is over. Possibly being prosecuted and facing financial ruin. Granted, if I lived on the South side of Chicago or working as I did, in East LA off Soto Street, I might feel differently.

Again, I do support Open Carry for those who feel they need to, especially females and the elderly. There are a variety of well made, well priced “pocket rockets,” small, compact 380 cal. pistols on the market. Our friend, Howard Walther take a bow for the Walther PPK, so famous even James Bond carries one!

As for the harassing, abusive and criminal behavior of the left, I feel for our brave law enforcement which have to battle these psychopaths on a daily basis. Being punched, called names, spit on, doxed and still have to keep your cool, especially when carrying a loaded firearm and being filmed by multiple cameras and multiple angles.

Having said all of this, your home is your castle and that’s where I draw the line. How would I react to an intruder meaning harm to me or my family? Let’s just say they would pass on to the next life from a massive dose of lead poisoning!

I got my wife a Burna projectile launcher for Christmas and she loves it. It can be concealed in a purse or on your person legally. I think it would stop 90% of evil doers in their tracks without killing them. She has to walk through some shady areas to get to work at 6:30 AM downtown. We feel it’s much better than pepper spray as a deterrent. Trust me, you would not want to get hit with this SOB!

Fun article, Henry. Whereas your carry license was difficult to obtain, here in Georgia it sometimes feels like walking into a saloon of an old Western TV show when going out to lunch here. I easily obtained the carry license in GA. So far, I haven't carried the weapon outside the house. I mainly wanted to find out how easy or difficult it was. I did purchase a compact Smith & Wesson M&P22 that's fun to look at from time-to-time. It shoots the small diameter 22LR bullets, so I don't hurt myself too severely <g>. It's probably less crazy here compared to SB because of all the licensed carry people. I figure someday I can fire the thing into a sandbag in the basement and make sure it works. I'll prepare myself with holster, cowboy hat and boots with spurs.

Jeff barton's avatar

Be sure to wear ear protection. From personal experience, when fired indoors even a little .22 will cause your ears to ring for an hour and you will not feel that your hearing has returned to normal for days.

Bill Russell's avatar

Yes, I'm totally deaf in the left ear and have marginal use in the right. making me a candidate for saving what hearing I've got left caused by noisy environments. I have noisy machinery and I use ear protectors and don't hear anything. Protect those ears!

In GA you can legally own a suppressor for your M&P. Go from 140-160 db to around 100-110 suppressed.

Over the Internet I attempted to apply for the ATF paperwork requirement. And between the picture I sent of myself or the fingerprint kit they sent which I did myself, they gave up on me after several attempts. There was talk about not requiring the ATF paperwork when Trump took office. But I tend to think the ATF paperwork is still required.

I sometimes wonder what the crossfire would be like if somebody tried to use a weapon in a restaurant. I would dive to the floor and lay flat.

Since it is so difficult to get a CCW permit in Santa Barbara what should someone do if they felt that a situation was potentially dangerous and wanted to be armed? For example carrying a large amount of cash to purchase a car on the seedy side of town or carrying a large amount of gold or jewels from home to a safe deposit box. Would you tuck your vintage S&W 10-5 snub nose in your waistband or would you go unarmed? Who said “I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six”?

John Thomas's avatar

There is hope for you. The uber liberal Ninth Circuit ruled in Baird v. Bonta that California’s ban on open carry in counties with populations over 200,000 violates the Second Amendment. The court back and forth will probably boil up to the Supreme Court and take years.

Jeff barton's avatar

Why would the population of the county have anything to do with it? So if I holstered up a revolver and walked up and down State Street do you think I would be arrested?

John Thomas's avatar

That 200K? No idea. It is odd.

Brian MacIsaac's avatar

I’d say yes you would be. One of the many Karen’s downtown would be on her phone with the PD immediately and unfortunately that’s something they would respond to rather than just a mirror robbery less than $999.

TVW's avatar

Although I'm no fan of Bonta by any stretch...I'm not so sure I would sell him short on this point.

The larger the town (city)...the greater number of liberals. There is a direct correlation between the greater the number of clustered liberals and an increase in crime and violence. Perhaps Bonta had a rare a brush with logic...or more likely just another over reaching power grab.

Regardless, being over turned by the hyper-liberal Ninth CC is the epitome of a slap down to a fellow comrade.

Bill Russell's avatar

One problem carrying a gun is if someone wanted to "waste" you, it could make you more vulnerable. If you aren't loved by law enforcement, then they could make a situation look like self-defense. I've got into the knickers of law enforcement through my writings locally which includes the FBI, the Police and Sherrif Departments.

Henry Schulte's avatar

Under those conditions you have a right to carry. Well, we all have a right to carry but it's easier when you can justify your life is in danger or you're a sitting target carrying big bucks.

Jeff barton's avatar

Nicki Minaj stated that Democrats could no longer rely on automatic support from African American voters which is why they need immigrants. Insightful.

Fantastic commentary Henry!

All these Hollywood fags completely piss me off - a bunch of jerk-off losers who don’t have a clue how it really works.

I love the expression: “I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6” which is what would happen if I had a gun and thought some worthless thug might be trying to kill me - shoot him as often and as much as I could.

It’s much worse for the cops - they mostly deal with life’s garbage - stupid animals who don’t have a clue what honor, truth or remorse means. They eventually get a 6th sense about what might be a threat and act accordingly. The cop who shot Pretti must have thought his reaction was correct - unlike Pretti and the rest of the rabble he wasn’t out to make a point!

Spot on Henry!

Thanks for that!

Good One Henry…I would say congrats on obtaining a CCP permit here in SB County, but sorry to say that they are only issued after one can demonstrate a credible threat…I know, since I have been denied my 2A right. Always believed that we could enjoy a well mannered society if people, even a small fraction, were allowed to carry for personal protection.

Peggy's avatar

Great article Henry!

Bernard Gans's avatar

Thank you Henry. In an effort to not repeat the many good points raised above, I do want to say that almost all reports about the Pretti shooting from the mainstream media did not mention that he was carrying a loaded gun and two ammunition magazines. What more do you need to know about our evil media?

Scott Wenz's avatar

Good article. Always wanted to go to Ventura and go through that course.

Here is a real life situation. Basic training, on the range, firing line was ready and a coward aimed his M-14 at Sgt. Lacklan. There were a number of options. I leveled my rifle at the coward who was itching for section 8 DD. I was not looking forward to it, but at the same time there was no way I was going to let him live if he pulled the trigger. I was motioned down by Senior Drill Instructor Rice. While I mentally stepped down I was still ready. It was resolved and the idiot got what he wanted - Dishonorable Discharge with a section 8 attachment.

Nice that you were able to get your CCW, (chuckle) every time I checked where mine was the department seemed to have trouble finding it. Forget I spent a year as a personal body guard and paper pusher in the Army.

I have the answer for your question. "Finally, why do the anti-Americans feel the need to pull schoolkids into their insanity?"

In research I was taught you restrict driver's licenses to over 16. Why? Because they have questionable cognitive capability. My cousin Steve was the first student at San Marcos killed - a traffic accident. Senior year, in a car drinking with other students and rolled the car on Foothill. Everyone walked away except Steve. This is why today I still advocate no drugs for anyone under 21 (or at all)..... They're easy targets and will be until about 30 years of age.

To your item "They Know Not What They Do." The answer is yes they do. They prey on the young and druggies. They use their right(?) to lie and misrepresent. After thousands of years of Communist Philosophy failures the riots, executions, and more continue.

To use a lose quote from Mr. Eringer, without an end point, their power comes from a never ending process.

It is the process Buckwheat!

So I'll end my comment with your comment. "A faction of crazies and sociopolitical malcontents won’t fix the problem by carrying signs and screaming. The criminals love you guys. """""""

Without a rational end point the "process" continues and the public gets the shaft.

Thanks for the article.

thank you for such a comprehensive and thoughtful reply. And I think you have a point, they know exactly what they're doing. Though I think most of the rioters on the street are sheep following the Shepard of Anarchy.

"I learned Pretti was using a Sig Sauer P320, notorious for misfiring. Some say the gun may have gone off. "

What kind of comment is this. Pretti was not USING a gun. He had it holstered on his hip or leg. Good on him in this chaotic situation that he did not use it. And what the heck is with "some say the gun may have gone off". Some say the moon is made of blue cheese.

What has that to do with anything.

I usually appreciate your posts
