I am no expert, just a lay Catholic who is not that well read, but here is how it looks to me.

The Holy Spirit brings gifts that are not of our choosing. The Apostles were chosen by God to spread the witness of Christ to the nations through The Church, founded by Christ who said the gates of Hell would not prevail against it. The early Church fathers wrote about their experience of Christ and their early practice of worship through the celebration of the Eucharist, The Mass. The Catholic Church (now Roman Catholic in The West and Eastern Orthodox in the East) preserved this tradition, the apostolic succession of the training of priests and the deposit of faith throughout the centuries.

I appreciate Mary Hudson's witness to Christ and Holy Scripture as well as her efforts to promote morality and, frankly common sense, in our schools and our community which desperately need such voices. At the same time, I caution everyone to examine how the complete lack of quality control in Protestantism has allowed for many protestant sects to promote degenerate sexuality and the Baptist and Evangelical movements to get caught up in facilitating genocide against Christian and Muslim Palestinians in The Holy Land due to the demonic influence of the Scofield Reference Bible that was produced in 1909, the notes of which written by con man and family abandoner, Cyrus Scofield.

The safest way to protect yourself from the demonic is still to join the apostolic Church Christ founded which is still active all over the world. It is vilified and slandered and its practitioners to this day are persecuted, but I think that is because the demons know its power.

We Americans might be the worst submitters in the world. And that has an important good side. When we are asked to submit to something evil, we often will refuse to go along. For example, that spirit protected a lot of us from the experimental gene therapy dishonestly labeled as a vaccine. But that independent spirit can be a barrier to submitting to Christ's authority. It can cut you off from the accumulated wisdom of your own ancestors and the founders of our civilization. It can separate you from sacraments that Christ created. It can mislead you into conflict with fellow followers of Christ. It can weaken our Church leading to vulnerabilities ready to be exploited by deceivers and demons who want us to submit to vice and addiction and slavery to our passions so we won't even notice their tyrannical control of our society.

Call me crazy, but I think the best chance for saving our community, our country, our civilization and our individual souls is to return to the apostolic Church founded by Christ and work to make it holier through our own witness, sacrifice, service and full submission to He who is perfect love, Jesus Christ.

I know it is impolitic to raise this perspective, but the hour is late as we are face some very dire potentially civilization ending threats. While we still have freedom of speech, why not share how it looks to me? I welcome any sincere comments, criticisms and thoughts provided by people of good will who share the common purpose of serving Christ and the common good for humanity. And if you read this far, thanks for considering. May God protect and guide us all.

Aimee, I'm curious what you (and everyone else here) think of this Catholic School written about recently by Joel Salatin. I'm not a Catholic or a Christian but I agree with Salatin, who is a longtime hero of mine:

Wisdom about the human spirit does speak in "many tongues" - languages and traditions. We gain new insights listening to them all. And then also listening to that still small voice we all have within ourselves. This is the essence of "Unitarianism". (but not always its practice.)

You mention a brain surgeon's findings about SIT. Who is this brain surgeon?

PubMed search engine actually does have a few exploratory articles about "dystonia":

How does eastern meditation using........ ooooooommmmmm..... or a chosen repeated mantra .... differ from this form of dystonia? Remember JD Salinger's Franny and Zooey's counterpoint to Catcher in the Rye?

Flirtations with the sub-conscious...or the untapped dimensions of our entire human nature, have long been objects of fascination. But without resorting to artificial chemical tampering. Transcendence, even moments of transcendence appear to be the shared goal. But real life still happens on earth, with feet solidly on the ground.

I am reminded of visiting a still-practicing Buddhist monastery in the capital of Mongolia, shortly after the Iron curtain came down where hundreds of monks were sitting still, chanting and making in the most ethereal deep sounds. Were they too "speaking tongues"? In their own tradition.

The prior communist government in Mongolia had destroyed most monasteries in the country because they represented political opposition. But this one still existed. Did that make their collective sound even more plaintive?

I'd still like a link to the neurosurgeon the Hudsons use as a scientific basis for glossolalia and its connection to the immune system :-) I'm open to it. I'm someone who's doing Somatic Tracking as part of my PT at Goleta Valley Hospital. The last time I did it, the Somatic therapist simply placed her hands on my shoulders and asked me what colors I was seeing. But afterwards, I felt as though I'd run three miles, when in fact right now I can't even walk any distance without a walker. I felt a spiritual healing. So I'm open to the mind/spirit/body connection - and grateful Cottage is, too. And I'm reading a book by Peter Levine, called “In an Unspoken Voice” - his work became Somatic Tracking. So it's frustrating to read the Hudsons say here that there's evidence that glossolalia is real without listing quotes, names and links that I would enjoy reading. In general this is a problem I have with Evangelical Christians. They don't seem to like actual data discussions, they seem to think that I should just have faith.

I believe in the power of prayer, but be suspicious of these evangelicals who call themselves Christian but are not.

Thanks for sharing. Many benefits to SIT. Even Christians that know about it don’t do it enough or hardly at all. When you know the benefits you will make it part of your daily routine. Have been told before that I have a very strong immune system. Have been daily SIT for over 50 yrs has contributed greatly to my health. I also have shared the benefits and helped many manifest the Holy Spirit. May have to stop by your Sunday evening fellowship.

Please add the fact that the Bible says there must be an interpreter for the languages or how would this message be a blessing to those hearing.

Lauri, you are correct in reminding us of the Biblical purpose of speaking in tongues.

In 1 Corinthians 14, the Bible addresses the practice of speaking in tongues in the context of public worship. The Apostle Paul gives specific guidance about the use of this spiritual gift in church settings. Here’s what Scripture says about the need for an interpreter and the edification of others:

1 Corinthians 14:27-28 (ESV)

"If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret. But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God."

To summarize Paul's instructions:

1) speaking in tongues should be done in an orderly manner,

2) accompanied by interpretation, and

3) if no interpreter is present, the person should remain silent in the assembly.

Fraud alert. Mario Murillo? After 13 months of genocide (Nov 22, 2024), he posted this on social media: "Pray for the administration to stand with Israel.” (Genesis 12:3) Today, we intercede for our nation’s unwavering support of Israel. Genesis 12:3 declares that those who bless Israel will be blessed. May our administration recognize the importance of this covenant and stand in solidarity with God’s chosen people. Let’s pray for a steadfast alliance that honors God and His promises." It's very suspicious that the author here would promote this charlatan.
