I heard once from a waitress at Harry's that the Ranchero Room was almost named the Rush Limbaugh Room. If I still drank Harry's cocktails, I'd drink to that.
Exciting news - Karen Jones who lived in Santa Barbara until she was under house arrest for J6 is on Kill Tony tonight. Karen says “It’s going to be pretty exciting. I’m on with Ari Shaffir and Mark Normand. Ari gets fresh.”
I listened to Rush almost daily starting with his second year I believe. When I first heard him, I wondered who was this bombastic individual? I was initially intrigued by his very unique style irrespective of the content...which turned out to be extraordinary and illuminating. I loved his well deserved confidence and often irreverent sense of humor. No one communicated as well as Rush...from his "gloriously naked body" to Dan's Bake Sale (he arrived in a helicopter as the turnout was so massive traffic was gridlocked).
He was always loud and proud of his faith, his family and his country. What a concept.
As extraordinary socio – political events appear to accelerate I wonder what would be Rush's oblique perspective with his innate ability to uniquely communicate...not a rehash of the rank and file talking heads.
Thanks for the piece Jim. America lost a Great One.
Great peace Jim. My father turned me on to rush in 1990 and I don’t think I missed more than a handful of broadcast over the next 30+ years. After my father passed away in the late 90s it was like having the discussions of my youth Around the kitchen table every day while I worked and listened for three hours. I miss them both dearly and I’m always searching for someone with the same clarity and reverent humor. Gutfeld seems to be the closest I could come up with, especially on the humorous side. Love reading your articles so keep it up.
Thanks Jim for the excellent piece on The Great One. I started listening in the early 90s at work, was almost a daily experience, except for times when others visited the office. Most everyone enjoyed him and his upfront points of view, with the ever present twist of irony & in your face humor (except for my immediate boss who would always stare at the radio when first entering to the discuss work in progress).
What a great leader in the fight for our freedoms. He was instrumental in turning many heads away from the planned cultural revolution seeded by the CCP in the early 1980s. I’m sure that Rush would love to be here for the final takedown, and we would love to have him in the fight, but know that he is fighting for us in spirit from the other side. Rest In Peace Rush Limbaugh.
Oh, to have the privilege of revering that man. A man fired for his on air racist commentary with black NFL players.
A man who hated the fact that America elected a black man as POTUS, had an 8 year term and used his remaining years to continue the hate, blame, ridicule and mocking, of not only him, but his wife and children.
A man whose awarding of the Presidential Medal of Freedom was a disgrace to the honor of the award, and past recipients.
You walked right into Rush's trap. He got your attention. He won. You remember things he said years ago. The guy was brilliant radio. He said what the people listening to him only said in their cars with the windows up. They'd be half dead on their commute and suddenly Rush would jar them awake. “What'd he just say?!” I wasn't a fan of Rush - I was a fan of having him on air, being the opposite of NPR, which once broadcast great stuff like Garrison Keillor and David Sedaris and then descended into nothing but hypnotic Democratic Party talking points. Yes, Rush said some regrettable things. He also said truths that no one else had the cojones - or drugs fueling them - said.
Plus he shook up the media world and rattled the national conversation. Yay to both. And I say this as someone who’s never really been able to listen to much talk radio.
Rush's reference to the black player needs to be put into context...which you clearly have not. RUSH knew more about football the 99% of the readers on this forum...which is why ESPN put him on the air. His comments were centered around Donovan McNabb, as I recall. That was his opinion and the opinion of a number of other people who supported that position w/ player data. He expressed his opinion…his livelihood.. for which he was crucified by the Left. Disney owned ESPN...think far-left...terminated him from that network for that observation...be it accurate or not is irrelevant.
Your reference to the past Presidential Medal of Honor recipients like Hillary Clinton...Bill Nye (the fake science guy)...George SOROS...Anna Wintour...John Kerry...Nancy Pelosi (investor extraordinaire) Rapinoe, etc., etc.,are "disgraced" because Rush received the same award...really...??? Wow.
TVW: You might also add that Rush considered McNabb a DEI hire before there was a DEI. He just didn't think he was up to the job; it was that kind of brutal honesty that got Rush fired from his ESPN gig, which he loved, as he loved football. ESPN was woke before there was woke!
Bingo on the DEI observation. Rush's honesty also precluded his purchasing partial interest in the St. Louis Rams.
Classic bigotry and censorship from the Left. So much for freedom of speech and/or thought. We are on our way to becoming another Canada or Britain. No thanks.
Having grown up near Philadelphia, I am a long time Philadelphia Eagles fan who spent far too much time yelling at Donovan McNabb: he was not a very good quarterback. My best guess is that Coach Reid kept him because he was the first person the coach drafted.
People need to stop being racist & using racism as a stick to beat people over the head. Rush did no ‘hate’ Obama because he was black, he despise him because he was a snake. Obama ushered in the Muslim Brotherhood. Research Obama’s handler — Valerie Jarrett…also look to her parents (Muslim Brotherhood).
Barack Obama did more harm to this country than any other president up to that point. He was on the front end of the 16 year plan to destroy America. During his eight years he was tasked to put us on universal healthcare and take our guns (as well as many other minor plays). One out of two = failure. Then Hillary was to be the president for the second eight years of the takedown of America. We would’ve had World War III with major western cities hit by nuclear weapons launched out of North Korea by the deep state.
Obama was a snake in the grass, no wonder all of his records are sealed. Why was the arrest of Alwaleed and others important? How is Alwaleed and Obama tied to Harvard University Muslim Association (HUMA)? Why did Alwaleed finance Obama PRE-POLITICAL days? Why would this former President be funded PRE-POLITICAL days? Repeat. Important. Why would this former President be funded PRE-POLITICAL days?
This page couldn't get through one day without Muslim bashing comments. Ironically in the same comment, which started with "People need to stop being racist." But Islamophobic bigotry is okay.
It’s said you should not speak ill of the dead, but if they deserve it, why not? He probably got as much attention as two-week taco does. For being a racist and hatemonger.
I miss the witty intellect of Rush Limbaugh, and his sidekick Bo Snerdley. His “EIB” network was an acronym for “Excellence in Broadcasting” which it truly was.
It is interesting how the liberal left is seemingly trying to silence AM Radio, why is this? So much so that there was a concerted effort to remove AM radio channels from purchased new cars. Maybe because AM is dominated by conservative media…ya think?
BTW, does anyone know why our local 990 AM has changed formats which now is exclusively Sports Radio? I now have to go over to KOGO AM (San Diego) in order to get Sean Hannity, Travis and Buck etc. Ironically, Sean Hannity started his radio career right here in SB up until lefty’s ran him out of town! Seems like conservative syndicated radio has been banished in SB? We do still have Andy on 1290, but wish his show was truly talk radio and included call-ins from local listeners.
I called the local broadcast company a couple of times...left messages asking the same...no response. Seems pretty bizarre since Hannity, Travis and Buck completely dominate the airwaves in terms of listenership....aka revenue. I have no idea why they would walk away from a money pump...apparently they're not willing to share that reasoning with former "customers". It's a private company... they are free to make their own decisions as it should be...that's fine....I also listen to KOGO....600 AM. How about reruns of Rush...
AM radio listeners are aging and declining in numbers. Harder to get advertisers. Kind of like newspapers. I'd suspect that those wanting both Hannity and opiate Rush are on various podcast platforms.
Not so fast TJ. Yes, AM listenership levels are down, but if you look at the ratings of top shows, it reflects significant market share. Top shows such as Hannity, Clay and Buck and others, represents millions in fans.
So, why would a local AM station drop shows with millions in ratings for a boring Sports Talk Radio station? Sure, businesses can certainly make those decisions, but it surely wasn’t based on ratings.
Yes, it is true many car manufacturers are removing AM radio due to cost and allegedly AM interfaces negatively with EV’s.
BTW, speaking of pulling the plug on media, time for public funding to be pulled on PBS and NPR, but especially NPR Radio!
Clearly, AM Radio plays a significant role in News, Weather and Emergencies affecting the public. Surely filling a role with the floods now in Texas.
Humm. Not my field of expertise but I'm not anti AM or anything.
Perhaps those shows don't have the same listenership in this state as they do in others?
All my friends in Kerrville/Austin who have kids at summer camps seem to be getting most of their 'news' from internet sources. Mostly from news stations - but via cell vs. AM.
Yes, I discovered that 990 was no longer an option upon returning from a trip this
spring. 990 was good bc it also dealt with SB local news. Try iHeart radio app, look for WOR 710 and listen on your phone. I’ll check out the SD station that you mentioned as it’s convenient to listen in the car.
On another note I still have the Rush Limbaugh Show app on my phone as a reminder of his greatness and how much he made me laugh every day.
Thank you for bringing back the memory of Rush. Reading the comments also brings back memories of listening to the old KTMS. Some say he saved AM radio. Thank you again.

Karen Jones killed tonight! She was hilarious about J6. The audience loved her.

No welcoming honor here

Just curious, Adam. What did you think about Joe Biden and Kamala Harris?

Adam
Did you ever listen to his show or did you just believe what the media said about him?
Time has proven Rush right about everything he said about the Obama family!
America hating communists!
Have a great day.
