Elephant herd in the room: 1) illegal immigration; 2) birthright citizenship; 3) teacher unions; 4) voter ignorance/apathy.

Wish success to Christy Lazaro. Brave and courageous.

I read this article titled "Time for Fresh Leadership" by Christy Lozano.

I have personally met with Ms. Lozano and she has it all to address the

widespread problems with the failed education system in Santa Barbara.

However, as all know here, it does not stop with just a failed education system.

Ditto to: "Wish success to Christy Lazano. Brave and courageous"

Undocumented children are a double-edged sword. The system is basically paid for by headcount. So more kids equals more income. More kids equals some schools staying open. Schools staying open means some kids no longer have to travel miles and miles to their elementary school.

Teacher unions are not the issue. Her article is interesting because she is taking the teachers > admistrators angle. She is saying a teacher gets paid x and an administrator gets paid y. That is a good argument if it is a 1:1 teacher-to-administrator. It is not. I could agree with her to work on lowering the delta, but there will never be parity, nor should there be. They are two different roles.

What I found interesting, especially for this crowd, is that she is advocating for higher teacher wages.

What I also found interesting is that she left out the big ole elephant in the room. Student outcomes are impacted drastically by the household. Studies have shown that the economic status/situation of the family has more of an impact than the classroom. IMO, solve that issue and scores will magically go up :)
