The crux of the matter is that the Iranian leadership (like many others especially in the 20th century) do not care one bit for the population of their countries. Threatening to destroy the population/infrastructure etc. will have no effect. So it's boots on the ground or ... nothing at all. We're not ready for the former so we'll end up with the latter. Their principle foreign policy has been to make a lot of money from oil and use it to pursue "Death to Israel and Death to America". Their principle domestic policy has been to rule the Iranian people with rods of iron, and death to those who resist them, peacefully, or otherwise.
I thought that one of the first principles of starting a war is First, know your enemy. The second principle is: To Fight to Win, as quickly as possible. The third is: To Require the Unconditional Surrender of your Enemy. The fourth is: To get your Own people in Support of your Actions in starting the war. The Fifth is to Deploy Boots on the ground.
Trump employed none of these principles against a ruthless enemy in a country that has been fighting wars for thousands of years. He did not go to war to win; he went to war to make a deal.
Boots on the ground are tactics used in a society less technologically equipped then the US and The world have now.
Why would we want soldiers to possibly be killed while you can achieve much more by precise attacks infrastructure guides remotely without any casualties?
Satelittes can now provide any communications without a soldiers or spies infiltrating the Country.
Why would you want someone's son or daughter to be killed instead of using other tactics to achieve the same goals.
