The blue voters of this county bear the blame for returning people like Hart and Limon to Sacramento. You could also blame many apathetic conservatives and libertarians who wring their hands, but don’t get involved in trying to reverse the blue tsunami drowning all of us. These legislators are why California is a place many choose to flee. People we know and will miss are packing their belongings and moving to much less hospitable climates, looking for freedom and sanity. I have been to multiple meetings with Hart, and his persistent fake smile belies the confused and awful ideas behind his face. We need a new set of state senators and assembly members, as well as a new governor. The parking congestion at the recent event to hear from Steve Hilton is a measure of the fact that there is a minority of us here, in what Ronald Reagan said was “the same zip code” as heaven.
Hello Mr. Aijian that was a nice, relaxed Steve Hilton event. On your "We need a new set of state senators and assembly members, as well as a new governor,"
Best method is a pair of handcuffs like CA Sen. Mr. Lee> Be ready for more handcuffs soon.
"California state Sen. Leland Yee arrested on bribery, arms dealing charges"
Putting these two faces, Gregg Hart and Monique Limon, at the forefront instead helplessly blaming "The State" is the very first step on the road to our own local political recovery. Thank you, Justin.
One leaving the local school district in shambles (Limon) and the other dumping ruinous pro-union mandates on our city (Hart). Yet these records of ignominy launched the next steps on their own political ladders.
Performative virtue-signaling and slavish party loyalty is their sole legacy. Let the Democrat food fight to eventually replace Congressional Representative Salud Carbajal begin. And do watch out for the sharp elbows coming from heir-apparent Laura Capps, when it all gets real.
This is a great idea, I think once a month is a good cadence for something like this. I can research and also ask people to suggest topics. Senate and Assembly are both more interesting to follow when you start seeing the big picture and recognizing names.
National politics can be a drug that causes us to ignore what is happening in our own backyards -- like 7 story buildings suddenly popping up all over with no parking .....
I hope you do this, Justin. Particularly now that you have gotten to know the rhythm of things Sacramento, and the state budget calendar. May Revise coming up to see if in fact Newsom's budget numbers can be made to add up.
And whether SBCC will in fact get its promised state matching funds for their new palatial local bond issue funded gymnasium. They have pulled those state level funding promises in the past, when the powers that be make stronger cases and exert competing demands.
Make a pledge, whenever anyone says "The State makes us do XYX".
Remind them "The State" has two names: Monique Limon and Gregg Hart. Voting present to avoid local controversy, does not cut it.
Agree, we need a monthly round up of votes these two (Hart and Limon) have taken in our names. A good once a month column to add to SB Current, Justin?
What is The State .....(aka Hart and Limon) ..... up to, and how will it impact us locally.
Do they vote 100% party line, or only 99% party line? Do they ever buck the system for local political cover, but only when Democrat leadership already has told them they have enough votes to pass the measures anyway?
What is the pattern for Monique Limon's notorious "present" voting record. Not unlike a certain POTUS #44, who wanted no alligators at the state level, to come out and bite him later.
My comment is directed to those with means, money, and voice in the local and state GOP, and independents situated anywhere right of far left on the political spectrum. Here is your man. Justin Shores. His talents: intelligence, forthrightness, handle on all the issues, ability to speak compellingly and backed by knowledge of the issues. Justin is who California needs at this moment. With all the doofusses getting elected, why not put our collective support behind a man of integrity?
The coy posing with arms crossed by these two, harkens the messaging we see from many of our own local real estate sales persons. To wit: I got something to sell you, and I make a bundle doing it.
I agree with Justin regarding Democrats running Ca into the ground but I think he needs to reprioritize the list of what's need to be fixed in Ca. First, we need to reduce the cost of gasoline, electricity and other energy sources by producing more of them and stop enacting laws that close refineries in the state. Second, we need to reduce state taxes and regulations, killing consumers and small businesses. Third, we need to arrest and convict violent crime offenders with long prison sentences. Fourth, we need to change sanctuary policies so illegal aliens who break our laws are turned over to federal authorities. Fifth, we need to enact laws that prohibit people from sleeping and camping outside in our urban centers. Sixth, we need to outlaw public labor unions, particularly teacher unions, which have driven up labor costs with less productivity in the public sector, for example: disgracefully low test scores in our public schools. Seventh, we need to repeal laws that impose state mandates to build housing without any consideration for local zoning laws to protect aesthetics and appeal of local communities. Last but not least, protestors who deface our universities and harass Jewish students and others on college campuses should be expelled and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for crimes they have committed.
Wanted to focus on a few current bills and what is happening in Sacramento because it is an open wound for them. It is already very long and the intent was to connect some dots and link the 2 local officials responsible. I think it’s time for Republicans to pounce and rub their faces in their votes. This was not a ranking of Californias problems, I think your list is great.
Congratulations Justin on a scathing revelation in local reality and a hefty dose of tough love. Pulling back the curtain and shining a light on these two. Let’s see, Hart and Limon voted against human trafficking legislation and putting the kibosh on fire prevention…what? But they make political sounds about protecting alien criminals, and providing cover for child molesters, basically toeing the line for State Senator, Scott Weiner (his surname says it all). Just curious, where does the local Rainbow Coalition stand on protecting kids and women from sexual predators?
Further, these two political activists stand in the way by colluding with environmental groups in order to bankrupt our local energy industry, costing hundreds of good paying private sector jobs, just as we are now learning that our gas costs are going up to as high as $9/gal due to closures of our refineries!
All this while being in lock step with the SEIU in order to further dominate their influence on political power and in effect, using our tax dollars as their own, personal piggy bank!
As mentioned, Pacific Palisades is just the latest example of the massive failure of the one party, Democratic dominance in our once Golden State. Yes, LA Mayor, Karen Bass is yet another incompetent and corrupt member of the Democrat food chain. Just watched an interview with Bass when asked if DWP Exec, Janisse Quinones (making $750k/yr.), should be fired for incompetence? Bass couldn’t even answer the question and appeared to be taken off guard.

Justin-Your essay exposes two of the most progressive politicians that have been sucking on the local taxpayer's teat for years. They have been elected to school board, city council, supervisor, working their way up the democrat chain. The carnage of their failed policies is on exhibit far and wide on a daily basis. What is stunning to me is they are both unlikeable--even to the voters that continue to promote them, yet the electorate is so uninformed and tuned out they stay in office.
I can’t help but wonder where Senator Scott Wiener’s comment regarding an 18 year old paying a classmate $20 to fool around originated. You don’t suppose that was personal experience.
Cc to the Sacramento Pols: There are scores of women scarred for life, a consequence of a high school classmate's (or classmates) desire "to fool around."
I didn't say he did anything. But I'm pretty sure the smell on him left Trump no option but to move on. And probably to a better pick anyway.
But since you're now the innuendo police, why don't you correct your buddy Nathan above? Oh yeah, he's wearing your colors...... You're so completely one-sided. What did you call that above? "slavish party loyalty"?
Here are some examples someone put together as the most controversial. He also is the most effective Progressive/Social housing legislator.
SB 357 | Safer Streets for All Act (2022) – Repeals loitering laws targeting sex workers. | Weakens public safety by decriminalizing loitering for prostitution, potentially increasing street-level sex work and human trafficking. May normalize prostitution in communities, conflicting with traditional values. | Aims to reduce discriminatory policing against marginalized groups, particularly trans women of color. |
| SB 57 | Overdose Prevention Programs (2022) – Legalizes supervised consumption sites in San Francisco, Oakland, and Los Angeles. | Enables drug use by providing safe spaces, potentially encouraging addiction rather than rehabilitation. Risks normalizing drug culture and could burden public resources. | Seeks to reduce overdose deaths by offering supervised environments and access to health services. |
| SB 145 | Sex Offender Registry Reform (2020) – Removes automatic sex offender registration for certain non-forcible sexual acts with minors (14-17) if the offender is within 10 years of age. | Perceived as softening penalties for sexual offenses involving minors, raising concerns about protecting youth. Critics argue it could be exploited, despite judicial discretion. | Addresses perceived inequities in registry laws, ensuring similar offenses (vaginal vs. oral/anal) are treated consistently, reducing discrimination against LGBTQ individuals. |
| SB 866 | Minors’ Autonomous Consent to Vaccines (2022) – Allows minors 12+ to consent to vaccines without parental approval. | Undermines parental rights by allowing children to make medical decisions without family oversight. Raises concerns about minors’ maturity and potential coercion. | Intended to increase vaccination rates among youth, especially in cases of parental refusal. |
| SB 930 | Extended Alcohol Service Hours (2022, pilot program) – Allows seven cities to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. | Increases risks of alcohol-related incidents, such as DUIs and public disturbances, straining law enforcement. May exacerbate substance abuse issues. | Supports hospitality businesses recovering from pandemic losses by extending revenue hours. |
| SB 239 | HIV Decriminalization (2017) – Reduces penalty for knowingly exposing others to HIV from felony to misdemeanor. | Concerns about public health risks, as it may reduce deterrence for disclosing HIV status. Perceived as prioritizing individual rights over community safety. | Eliminates outdated, discriminatory laws targeting HIV-positive individuals, particularly marginalized groups, and reduces stigma. |
| SB 132 | Transgender Respect, Agency, and Dignity Act (2020) – Allows transgender inmates to be housed based on gender identity. | Raises safety concerns in prisons, particularly for female inmates, due to potential for abuse or violence. Conflicts with sex-based housing preferences. | Enhances safety and dignity for transgender inmates by aligning housing with gender identity and ensuring respectful treatment. |
| SB 107 | Trans Refuge Bill (2022) – Protects transgender youth and families from out-of-state prosecution for gender-affirming care. | Seen as overreach, potentially encouraging minors to seek irreversible medical procedures without parental consent. Conflicts with other states’ laws and traditional family values. | Shields families from legal persecution in states banning gender-affirming care, promoting access to healthcare. |
Thanks Justin, for illustrating issues local voters should consider. I am always surprised at how local candidates rarely, if ever, mention their voting records. Ditto for the local news sources since the left drove the News Press under. Here is a rule of thumb: if Scott Wiener supports it: oppose it and the politicians who support it including Limon and Hart.
Writing letters to these criminals who masquerade as government officials is not going to do a damn thing. Vote them out of office by putting up cracker jack candidates, instead of the sad looking spineless cretins the Republicans put up every year. Again, people deserve the government they get. When you get what you deserve, you have no room to bitch, moan and complain.
This has been the case for a long time, but on one of these bills massive national outrage has moved the needle. I think it’s a good time to be a republican in California if you can message well. I wrote this in a moderate tone. The reality is we don’t have the votes to really win those races yet we need massive voter registration to switch or we will never win.
Justin, I want to congratulate you on purposely taking a 'moderate tone'. Although I'm sure 99% of the folks reading the Current think I'm a full-fledged commie or left of Newsome, I'm actually fairly moderate and see major flaws on both sides. Anyway, I hope there is room for moderates on both sides and I would love to see California/Nation with more balanced and not so one-sided political leadership. Thanks for keeping things civil and focused on topics.

Isn't personal experience in that area what tanked Matt Gaetz from being attorney general?
For someone who always demands "proof", that is an odd comment (slur, innuendo) for you to make TJ.
