I believe the unions are some of the most corrupt organizations running around these days. At one point they were in necessity for men and women to receive fair compensation. But with laws that protect everyone from any illegal hiring/firing to protect them now they are unnecessary. Government unions, particularly are the devil and must be stamped out as well as the teachers unions. They set the prices for everyone else and our one of the biggest drivers of inflation that there is other than fuel / energy prices.
One always does need to distinguish between private sector unions and public sector unions. Two very different animals. My own complaints are against the roles now played by too many public sector unions.
The key differences are (1) their funding sources: Private sector unions depend on increased production and internal cost savings value vs. public sector union depending only on increased tax-dollar funding.
And (2) vastly different collective bargaining relationships: private sector unions engage in arms-length bargaining vs. public sector unions gaming the system, to sit on both sides of the bargaining table.
Hmmm, Boeing, VW, Enron, Goldman Sachs, I could find more.
It is simpler and closer to the truth that our standards have dropped accros the board in business life and indeed many if not all walks of life. Our western version of human kind has woefully low standards. If it makes money then all ok. Business is about satisfying wall street and capital. The CEO's get rich exporting jobs overseas and the staff get fired, local communities whither and die, and ultimately so does the country too as it can no longer make stuff. MAGA will not solve this. Once upon a time honesty, integrity truth, character mattered, now all that matters is "personality". The Kardashian clan appear to give little back to society but make a fortune. Trump is a self centered egotist who at best is a flim flam artist, closer to PT Barney Banum circus.
I’ve been sounding the alarm over self-interested public employee unions influencing election outcomes for years. Standing up to bullies is the only way to stop the bullying. When someone gets an endorsement from a public employees union, that should be a huge red flag to voters but most voters are not aware of the way things work in politics. The conservatives need a local version of Joe Rogan; a podcast that is interesting, entertaining and informative.
Yet another example of how Union Goon Squads use bullying tactics to get their way. They lean on elected officials by endorsing those who play their game. Those that don’t are subjected to bullying, intimidation and harassment. Somewhat how organized crime leans on shop owners in extortion rackets. To top it off they hide behind the American flag in their election campaigns!
Public sector unions have really become the adversary of the unsuspecting public, pushing smaller municipalities to the brink of insolvency. The ONLY politician to stand up to public unions was Reagan when he decertified Patco, the bargaining unit for Air Traffic Controllers and brought in military personnel to fill the void.
Only since 1962 were government employees were even allowed to unionize, solely on the basis of an Executive Order signed by JFK. It long past time to rescind that executive order, and put our government house back in order, as originally designed.
Instead, government employee unions have amassed control over a huge part of our taxpayer funded government budgets at every level, and have become an unelected dominant voice in most government decision making.
When Joe Biden bragged he was the most pro-union Present in US history, and we already know the pro-government employee union positions AG Kamala Harris had taken in California, we the people now risk abdication of our fundamental autonomy over our own government to these massively funded, unelected non-government agencies.
Joe Biden might as well have said, as has been said in the past what is good for General Motors is good for the county, or admitted he was fully on board with the prior Dixiecrat KKK demands to protect Jim Crow laws.. Yet there was no rejection of his recent unabashed pro-union statement, which is also the fundamental benchmark for the entire Democrat party today.
Government employee unions only are a recent aberration; they are not the norm. We have now seen the damage they have inflicted on every government operations and sound fiscal planning today. This must stop. Turn the clock back to 1961. Give FDR's warning heed - do not ever allow government employee unions.
Yet what we have today is the result of decades of tax-dollar funded PR campaigns by government employee unions. It is presumed these third party unions are now an authorized part of the fabric our government, and we must bow to their every whim and misrepresented claim they make. Or else.
The only way CA can ever truly be turned around and elections be fair and power shared is if we eliminate government unions. Government unions is an oxymoron. The government is ostensibly the people, so a government union is by definition working against itself. The union dues collected are used more to curry political favor and power than they are for the worker. It's a tremendous scam.
As a retired letter carrier in Santa Maria, the town has become a traffic jam from hell! 100 plus unit apartments springing up in unlikely places. While the outside is attractive, within 6 months, the carrier can’t even deliver the mail due to vandalism. If you figure 2 cars per unit, let alone the strain on electricity and water, the streets are wall to wall cars. While in CVS on Main Street, I was looking for cotton balls! They were under lock and key! As I exclaimed “wow”, the clerk said the whole store will be like that soon! If the town is attracting residents who simply can’t afford to live or have no respect of any kind, no wonder the masses are leaving my beautiful state. I prefer not to go back to the days of the “wild” west. It’s really sad on Stowell there is a flashing sign the informs us the a red light means “stop”!!!! Unfortunately, when the residents realize there are no consequences, this is the result. Small business owners are fed up!
We have the Civil Service Act to protect those who choose government employment. Leave it at that.
There is no place for the amassed unelected third party power and funding now dedicated to the vast numbers of government employee union members with unclear, redundant and even unnecessary missions, that tax payers are forced to support today.
Government union employees very much do engage in "election interference" at every level of our representative government decision-making. They learned to game the system, so today we work for the government; the government no longer works for us.
1. Ban all government employee unions. Rescind the 1962 Executive Order.
2. Maintain a non-partisan responsive Civil Service Act to provide government employee protections.
Time is long past to consolidate the many multiple fire departments in our county, under a single administrative office. Only "politics" prevents this huge tax payer cost savings move.
See Transparent California for the total costs of local fire services, which are supplemented by the state funded Cal Fire when disaster does strike. While the overly expensive separate fire department management continues regardless.
The analysis of duplication of our very expensive government services, in our modern age of instant communications, is long over due. Who will undertake this task? UCSB Economic Forum? Little Hoover Commission? The now moribund Jarvis Taxpayers Association?
Why do firefighters receive such exorbitant salaries & benefits, while at the same time it is so tough to join the force? Their pay packages would be significantly reduced if free market supply/demand for those positions were not influenced by the decision makers + union forces pulling together and grifting the system.
The SF Fire Department positions basically became hereditary entitlements, from father to son. How much of this basic nepotism exists in our fire departments today?
He expects far more efficient and accountable government services, at lower tax payer costs. Provide a better consumer product. Like he has accomplished in his other private companies.
He certainly does not need to do this for the money. Nor does Trump.
PS: Ah yes, political swag. Collectables. Willing buyer meets willing seller is the American way. And that is the difference between using our tax dollars for partisan funding, and selling the willing what ever they choose to buy.
True, also will make a dent in the $83,300,000.00 jury award to E. Jean Carroll currently under appeal by Trump’s latest group of lawyers. Perhaps she’ll take some collectables as payment.
How about explaining to the rest of us the nature of those charges and what ex post facto -bills of attainder thresholds she will need to face in order to win on appeal?
However at this point, that ludicrous case was already worth $83 million in free campaign support and publicity. Will they now claim Trump failed to report this case as an ersatz in-kind campaign contribution made in his behalf?
Because that case, along with all the other ginned-up cases and forum shopping treatment against Trump, made him a very sympathetic Everyman. Way to go, Democrats. They still have not figured that one out.
I believe it was FDR who said that public sector unions were a dangerous concept. JFK Started us down this road to perdition of government unions.
Also, Schwarzenegger (sp?) tried to counter the unions at the beginning of his term as governor but lost. He gave up after that and he abandoned his earlier conservative bent.
Newly elected Gov Schwarzenegger put four ballot proposals before the voters early in his term to honor his promise to "break up the little boxes" of special interests in Sacramento.
This led to massive public employee union member backlash, and the eventual defeat of all of them. but only after a "long count" back in the early 2000's.
Voters in this state with an alarmist government union-funded opposition campaign, served Schwarzenegger his lunch, and he capitulated on his campaign promises after that. And emboldened the biggest government employee unions in this state (SEIU and the teachers unions) to take no prisoners, should government employee reform measures ever be on the ballot again.
That was the turning point for this state. The rest, as they say is history. Time to review what this state would look like today had voters agreed to those four reform measures. We got the government we deserved, after allowing those four ballot initiates to be rejected.

We need to do better and MAGA is not the answer.

Elon Musk is spending far more money daily. What does he expect in return?
Come on pull ther other one it has bells on it.
Okay, I'll bite:
He expects far more efficient and accountable government services, at lower tax payer costs. Provide a better consumer product. Like he has accomplished in his other private companies.
He certainly does not need to do this for the money. Nor does Trump.
If Trump doesn’t “need to do this for the money, the why, during a (very tight) presidential campaign, does he need to hawk the following;
Bible (made in China)
$400.00 gold shoes (China)
Pieces of his suit
NFTs
$100,000.00 gold watches
Yada, yada.
