Why anyone would vote for Prop 50:

Because they loved the lockdown.

They hate small businesses.

They hate big businesses.

They think the right to a late-term abortion is the greatest advancement ever for women.

They would like to pay more taxes.

They want their neighborhoods destroyed by “affordable housing” that's never affordable.

They wish all women's sports would be played by men.

They want to be forced to ride bicycles so their elected officials can fly in private jets.

And they are stupid.

I'm worried about mailing any ballot in California. I'm taking mine to the polling place.

I use BallotTrak. Works every time. After I drop it in the postal box, post office sends me an email saying they received it. Then comes an email saying it is sent to CA Voter Precinct. Next comes an email saying they received it and it has been counted! I highly recommend subscribing to this system.

I would NEVER mail-in my ballot or drop it off in one of those "secure" drop-off bins. ("Secured" on behalf of whom?) Good habits should become ingrained. I go directly to the county elections office, and either vote there or drop off my signed and sealed ballot by handing it directly to a window clerk, and watch her time-stamp the ballot. Trust has to begin somewhere. I trust the system once they've received and stamped my ballot.

Thanks Mike, for pointing out that the Texas actions are to comply with a court order. The ads being run in support of Prop 50 are so much more than misleading: they are deceptive. A bizarre example is the letter Noozhawk chose to publish today, that exceeded their stated limit of 250 words, by Robert Sulnick that tried to weave a story connecting voting for Prop 50 with climate change.

I'm as right leaning DINO, better yet Independent as you can get. When I heard Gavin propose this I was against it. I believe it is messing with the norms of redistricting. But in the last few weeks I've watched what the White House, AKA Stephen Miller is doing. Sorry my friends but I voted for it. C'mon, this all goes back to the WH, I really believe Trump has some kind of dementia and S. Miller is dictating policy.

You need to remember this all started in 2021 with the Biden Admin. It was a court order from that lawsuit that Texas followed and was reminded by the Trump admin to follow the Court Order. You can easily search this info. Funny how you don't think Newsom has any problems or messing up our state. All you have to do is look at the Palisades post fire.

A yea Vote gives all the power to Newsom and his cronies in California. Taking away the Independent Commissions maps and redrawing them by politicians to benefit politicians. But that's OK right and completly changing the maps so no Republican voices will ever be heard and counted in future California elections. The only way Newsom can win an election is to cheat and he knows it.We live in California not Texas their prop will affect residents of California not Texas.

Neglecting, of course, that the Texas redistricting was done at Trumps request to find just 11,000 new votes..., oh, excuse me, to fine 5 new Republican house members, and the court ordered redistricting was because the state already discriminated against minority voters. https://thearp.org/litigation/united-states-v-texas/

I read prop 50 and was happy to vote yes. War between the states carried out in California at the ballot box and in Texas by legislative fiat.

GM's avatar

Not so. Was a court order during the Biden admin,2021-2022.

Trump reminded Texas of the Court order. And they made a decision to follow the order.

If EVER there was a No Brainer, voting "NO" on Prop 50 is it! No matter who does the gerrymandering, however, there's always a flip-side to this nasty coin. To put more Democrats in a particular district means putting the displaced Republican voters somewhere else. They just don't evaporate or become totally disenfranchised. Southern CA should naturally have a certain number of Red districts. When the dust settles, Republicans under current political conditions in CA, when push comes to shove, will win 15 out of 52 congressional seats in CA. If not in 2026, then in 2028. More voters are NOT registering Democrat and more Democrats are inclined at least occasionally to jump ship and vote Republican. This is happening all over - Red states and Blue states; Red counties and Blue counties. Donald Trump and America First continue to alter the political landscape which seemed as if etched in stone before Trump rode down the escalator to fame and glory in June 2015.

Ah, revenge politics - the worst kind. Newsom & Co. don't even hide their motives. Further corrupt our state politics (where 40% of the electorate is represented by 15% of the congressional delegation) because a federal judge ordered Texas to redraw its congressional district boundaries to nullify previous unconstitutional affirmative action edicts. Texas is acting in accordance with a federal judicial order. What prompts California to act the way it is? Pure hatred, jealousy and revenge. There's only one problem - Republicans have more arrows in its quiver than Democrats. Two can play that insidious game. Indiana and Missouri can move to eliminate one Democrat seat each with about 90% effectiveness. Texas may produce only four Republican new seats, not five. The dirty deed in California could easily produce only two new Democrat seats, instead of five. There are few other Blue-run states that can produce more Democrat seats via the redistricting route. What goes around comes around - eventually. Democrats will one day rue the moment they hatched this onerous scheme.

I’m sorry David, but it seems that hatred, jealousy and revenge is the, motto of the taco administration. The only order Greg Abbott got was from taco himself, to get him five more representatives. While Newsom’s plan may not work at least he is bringing the choice to the people.

I have said it before, gerrymandering is a political tactic not a political system; the more important issue is that California like most states has a system that enables the creation of a one party state. If one party has 55 percent of the electorate and the the other party has 45 percent and the electorate is spread equally throughout the state, the minority party will send zero people to Sacramento and zero people to Congress. Such a system should not be allowed to continue. Berney

Mike, you say:

"That led to the gerrymandering of new districts that ‘might’ give Democrats four new seats; “might’ because these districts are not slam dunks for Democrats . . ."

Yes they are - the Democrats own California. Prop 50 is going to pass, and we'll be in deeper Kimchi than we already are.

Remember the Commie-Dem motto - "Voters are even stupider than we thought - they'll believe anything we tell 'em !"
