Most of us who voted for Donald J. Trump for president in 2016 and again in 2024 had specific reasons for doing so. We admired the president, naturally, but we also feared that without him we’d be witness to the continued destruction of our country, orchestrated by the cabal that had latched itself on to the reins of power in Washington, D.C. in 2020.
The elation over Mr. Trump’s astounding comeback victory in the 2024 election is more than just profound; it is also transformative. The Biden/Harris team was preparing to spend another four years concocting $2-trillion-plus budget deficits, mandating transgender and DEI (Diversity! Equity! Inclusion!) madness, mis-managing a completely unprotected and open border, and, well, you know what else if you’re reading this column.
So far, however, even we here at SBCurrent haven’t thanked our president enough for his focus and the notable accomplishments he’s made already.
Who would have thought that a tight-fisted billionaire who has been quoted as saying “I like using other people’s money” would be the man to save the United States of America from fiscal suicide?
So, let’s go down the list of why – despite some terrible timing – President Trump is as popular today as he was on election eve, and why current and future historians will list Donald John Trump as one of the most consequential, most transformative, presidents ever. His name will be right up there with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Let’s begin with the southern border. You and I watched Fox News’s Bill Melugin reporting from the small town of Eagle Pass, Texas, as tens of thousands of illegal “newcomers” in caravans of thousands poured across the border every week, invited here by the feckless “President” Biden. It almost made us cry; it certainly depressed us.
We later were bombarded with criminal reports of robberies, rapes, even murders, committed by many of those “newcomers.” Watching a group of transnational Tren de Aragua gang members from Venezuela terrorize apartment dwellers with guns, bats, and knives, in a building they had taken over in Aurora, Colorado, made us weep. Especially when no one in any of what are derisively called “mainstream” media outlets even covered the situation. And, when they did, they made light of it. Only Fox, Newsmax, Breitbart, and smaller conservative outlets bothered to give the situation the import it deserved.
Our country was going to hell… on purpose, though none of us could ascertain exactly what that purpose was.
Presidential candidate Trump promised to change all that, to seal the border on “day one” of his presidency, should he win. He did win and he did seal the southern border, as promised, though perhaps it took a little more than a day. We’re talking weeks. “The media and our friends in the Democrat Party,” President Trump remarked during a press conference a month ago, “kept saying we needed new legislation [to fix the situation at the border]; ‘We must have new laws to secure the border.’ But it turned out,” he concluded with a barely suppressed smile, “all we really needed was a new president.”
Today, our southern border is as secure as it has ever (never) been, and we have President Trump to thank for it.
Along with “sealing the border,” the president and his team began the difficult task of tracking down, capturing, and deporting the “worst of the worst.” It has proven to be a thankless and dangerous but necessary task.
That same “mainstream” media that neglected to cover the border invasion instigated by Joe Biden was more than eager to cover the unpleasant – and dangerous – task of rounding up as many deportable miscreants as ICE agents could apprehend.
Members of the irresponsible and spineless “mainstream” media were also more than pleased to make President Trump and his team look cruel and heartless as potentially vicious criminals were sent to El Salvador’s infamous maximum security mega-prison. It’s called the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) and can hold up to 40,000 prisoners. It’s safely located about 45 miles outside the capital city of San Salvador.
So far as we know, more than 200,000 people – mostly men – have been hustled out of our country by ICE in less than 100 days.
It needed to be done, and someone had to do it; either that or face the long-term consequences of harboring various budding criminal enterprises – not just Tren de Aragua and/or MS-13 – ready to pounce on our open and unguarded retail stores and the private homes of citizens foolish enough to live in “sanctuary” cities run by “progressive” mayors and district attorneys who play their own version of “catch and release,” offering no-bail freedom to those apprehended and charged after every law-breaking foray.
Yes, you can thank the president, along with Attorney General Pam Bondi, the FBI’s new Director Cash Patel, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, and other members of the president’s team, and of course the courageous participation of the various law-enforcement men and women assigned to the task.
Let’s not forget “Border Czar” Tom Homan, whose official title, grok tells me (thank you, Pat Fish!), is “White House Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations (WHEADERO).” He is responsible for overseeing border security, including the Southern and Northern borders, maritime, and aviation security and leading the deportation of undocumented immigrants.
Mr. Homan takes his job seriously and he's very good at it. Some sectors of the border have experienced a 99% drop in crossings in less than 100 days.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE, headed up by Elon Musk) has earmarked over $200 billion in cuts and savings and counting.
The President has pardoned all January 6, 2021, participants, most of whom did nothing but accept the invitation to visit the Capitol. Those few responsible for breaking in and destroying property had already served time.
The President is now enduring the difficult – but again, necessary – project of re-aligning international tariffs with our trading partners. He has, I believe rightly, targeted China’s advantageous tariff structure for special re-alignment, but all countries wishing to do business with the United States have corrections in store.
And that’s a good thing.
And that’s why nearly all of us who voted for the Trump/Vance ticket – rather than the spiritless and aimless Harris/Walz duo – are staying with President Trump, despite the negative headlines, the head-spinning turmoil in the stock market, unsettling gyrations in the dollar, and the rocketing price of gold.
We know that this administration has taken on a gargantuan assignment, and one, frankly, we didn’t expect would be addressed so soon, but one that, had this team not accepted the assignment, would never have happened. Every politician, elected official, and American citizen seemed content – or at least prepared – to watch the proud old Constitutional Republic fall slowly but determinedly into the abyss of history, to be remembered as just another failed front-runner that over-indulged its prosperity, over-spent its legacy.
You and I and virtually all MAGA adherents are and should be prepared to hang in there, regardless of the short-term negative consequences of the steps that will be required to right this beautiful ship called The United States of America.

There will be more to be thankful for – and to look forward to – in my next column.
Thank you, Jim. Too many Americans - on both the right and left - are victims of their own addiction to instant gratification, fueled by their short attention spans. Those on the right who aren't satisfied with what Trump has done so far are behaving like princesses with zero idea of how expertly Trump is working D. C. “I want America fixed, not just by the end of today but yesterday!” Those on the Left are behaving like psychopaths “He's moving faster than Hitler to destroy Democracy and he doesn't even wait for *our* due-process!” It's been over eight years of not being able to reason with TDS, but I'm dismayed by the people who should be thrilled at what Trump has accomplished instead constantly deriding how long it's taking him to do what he said he would. Have they ever tried to get anything done in government? If Warren Buffet says it's best to review your finances once a year, maybe the same holds for reviewing your president. If I were to scold my husband with “Sure, you took out the garbage and fixed the toilet but you brought back a steak from the market that's not a rib-eye like you said you'd get!” and didn't bother to register that maybe there wasn't a rib-eye today in the meat section and we're going to be eating a fine porterhouse cut - I would be pretty abusive, no? Show a little gratitude to the guy who's done more to save America in less time than any president in my lifetime. Thank you, President Trump!
I agree with your description. Only someone with Trump’s life experience and with no concern about his next election or his next paycheck could have the courage to what is needed to stop and reverse the slow and steady “managed decline” set in place by the Progressives, Marxists, and Globalists.
