“Oh what a tangled web we weave

Justice is ultimately from God.

Watching all the lying crooks in our “ justice system “ get caught with their pants down is funny and tragic. Crooked judges and prosecutors cannot be tolerated

First of all, in polite conversation you don’t infer that someone that you don’t know is unethical. In fairness however I can only assume that you did not watch the court hearing last week where a voting machine was hacked in under 10 seconds using a bic pen. Watch the 2018 reel of the Democrat politicians all complaining that the machines are hackable. Factor in dirty voter roles, media tampering with public opinion, illegally changed voting laws, vote counting stopped and then continued into the night without oversight, ballot harvesting, etc, etc. But yes, I’m sure there are no issues…🙄

Let’s keep discussing though because I would love to be proven wrong. The alternative is catastrophic for our country.

If it was truly the most free and fair election in history they would welcome these investigations

Expand full comment

There have been endless investigations, all pointing to no issues with voting machines, ballots, etc. Fox paid a high penalty for exactly this: being wrong and malicious about the fairness of the election. An ethical person would know this.

Expand full comment

Many investigations pointed to problems with these voting machines, as just set out in this lead article. EU immediately stopped using them, once they saw how easy they were to hack. We should follow their lead. Zero tolerance for even a single ballot abuse can be the only standard for our own elections. Any ethical person knows that. What is the problem going back to the way we voted for hundreds of years? Single election day and paper ballots.

I just read this article by Mr. Zepke and I quote "This third column in the Witch Hunt series discusses how the accusers’ (aka “the hunters”) overreach (a gentle way of saying “misuse their power”) backfired and turned the witch hunters into the accused: aka “the hunted.”

I commented before and stated what Mr. Zepke describes is Lawfare defined as the unlawful use

and the Abuse of the legal system to damage or delegitimize an opponent, or to deter an individual's usage of their legal rights. I then stated lets bring this Trump Targeting home, like ET, to SB Legal System. Are local-connected-Attorneys Abusing the SB Legal System to target community members?

How many are doing so and who exactly is doing this? Attorneys fees as anyone knows in civil litigaton can be huge so is lawfare being used here as a "Pattern of Practice" and where is all that Money Going and Flowing. May want to look at all of these "Charitable Foundations in SB" for a clue.

Maybe a review of the SB Court Dockets for another clue and the local-connected-Attorneys Cases thereof. How many cases are we talking about with Attorneys Fees over $500,000? How about recently 2,000 Cases. That is $100,000,000 and just the tip of the Lawfare Iceberg here in Santa Barbara.

See this weblink for alittle Sun Tzu legal dirty tricks >>>https://prod-media-v2.clearlawinstitute.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2019/08/CLI-Litigation-Jujutsu_The-Art-of-Combating-Dirty-Lawyer-Tactics.pdf

Nancy, the point behind Santa Barbara Current is that Mr. Buckley -- (your reference to "old man Buckley" is junior high namecalling, and just plain lazy intellect) -- actually believes in democracy. The free exchange and debate of political issues, supported by evidence. Our Fourth Estate included in the First Amendment. The above article is based on actual evidence: testimony and a report that is cited. That's resoonsible journalism. Some among us still believe in and are willing to stand up publicly for retaining an engaged and inquisitive press. The Current is one such example. As are Noozhawk and The Independent, all necessary. I wiuld suggest that what you desire is an echo chamber, you might try the totalitarian nations, still in too great abundance in our battered world.

Mr. Zepke provides a lucid and well supported explanation in his article “A Witch Hunt Backfires”.

Surely, it can be no surprise to discerning people that after the underhanded efforts by Hilary Clinton and her supporters to prevent Trump’s election the first time, that the Biden supporters would double-down to destroy Trump’s eligibility to win in a third election for the presidency.

Despite denials to the contrary, it appears that American politics have succumbed to corruption of the process.

That is why millions of Americans do not trust the government in its general totality.

thanks for the update…good to see another lawfare move going in the trash heap…2024 will be the year of the boomerang…the any-day-now decision on Presidential Immunity by the DC court will add to the deep state’s defeats…anybody else seeing Trump’s court dealings are exposing the corruption throughout our legal system? always seems like Trump is 5 steps ahead…who is helping Trump?

I don’t know much about voter fraud, but it’s hard to believe that Crook Biden won the 2020 election fairly. Could the electorate be that stupid to vote for this dope? It’s taken 3 years for him to prove what a complete loser he is, but proving it he has - the country is going to hell in a hand basket.

Ok, if the GOP needs to get ‘creative’ when it comes to voting, so be it. If that’s the game - let’s play it. The moral ‘high-ground’ ain’t making’ it, and the alternative - 4 more years of the Biden clown show will put us in the tank for sure!

“The end justifies the means.” This idea suggests that an important enough goal can justify unethical, illegal or immoral behavior. Can the GOP ‘fine-tune’ our handling of ballots and elections in order to compete with the Commie-Dems?

Here’s a question:

We capture a spy who knows when an enemy is going to drop a bomb on New York City. We can prevent it if we can get him to talk. How far do we deviate from our standards of ‘fair play’? Drugs? Torture? Unjustified ‘encouragement’? No? If not, he won’t disclose the information and a million people will die. What the GOP needs are street-savvy ‘operatives’ who would get the information _anyway they can_ in this uncomfortable scenario.

The Commie-Dems did it before and they’ll do it again. The GOP needs to learn how to mitigate Democrat voter fraud, get ballots counted and our people elected!

The US is a Republic. A representative democracy. What is a Big D "Democracy"?

Expand full comment

Check the U.S. Constitution for its proposal of and adherence to Democracy. Has served this country of ours fairly well ( considering our governments ) until BIG MONEY has encroached slowly but destructively to gain more and more control over U.S. governing bodies.

Congressmen, especially Republicans, appear mere interested in becoming re-elected instead of being beholden to the Constitution and those who put them in office. It is sickening to observe.

Is it surprising that this thread is originated by a resident of ….WHAT ? ? ……Montecito??

Big surprise….

Big D =" Democracy" is mob rule. The Founders worked hard to keep mob rule out of our unique system of representative government with its three separate branches of government and built in checks and balances.

This has been undermined by the growth of the massive and unelected administrative state after 1962, when government employees were allowed to unionize. But even that unintended BIG GOVERNMENT UNIONS deviation from our fundamental constitutional principles is currently under SCOTUS review, as we speak (Chevron deference).

Buying into America still being a land of opportunity will prove more beneficial, than letting yourself fall victim to unfounded and tone-deaf class envy.

Methinks Nancy, you cling to a very outdated cartoon version of Republicans. The GOP party today is undergoing a fundamental shift in its demographics, and its own internal tensions. Party labels have undergone significant shifts in their voter bases of late.

Loudermouth.

Into the dustbin of history. Nothing of value to save. Unfortunately the few good GOPs have MAGA hats stuck in their throats….unless you want to read a true account of their disloyalties to their offices and the Constitution; in which case, read Liz CHENEY’S book., “ Oath and Honor “.

What are you serving for lunch that is edible?

Liz Cheney? I don't need to read her book ("Oath and Honor"?? Really?) as I consider her performance in the Jan 6 proceedings as as corrupt a spectacle as I have ever even imagined. Regarding the election of 2020, the vote as tabulated no doubt favored Biden. It is what led up to that that matters. D'Souza's movie is no proof, but it sure makes sense. Then, there are many well known cases of lies (one being the Russia hoax) about Trump being endlessly repeated and the media's uncritical promotion of anything anti-Trump. Need I mention the laptop from hell? Then there is the interference and dishonesty of much of the Federal Judiciary and Administration that actively sabotaged Trump's time in office. Trump Derangement Syndrome really does exist.

Oh, regarding the court cases regarding the 2020 vote. Those cases were thrown out before deliberation. So the arguments were never aired and thus not judged upon. Courts have proven over and over again that they are willing to indulge the flimsiest of issues. Were they afraid of something?

Please expand. Changes in Republican Party going from what to what? To me it reeks of lack of ethics and profundity of….what is that word……oh yeah: STUPIDITY, lack of plain knowledge, ethics, morals. That almost covers it.

Those personalities….Green, Jordan, Boubert, the Floridian possible sex offender, other names I have willfully banned from my pristine mind……what a bunch!

Still, I await your considered respond…..WHERE is the GOP going?

How would it work…do you know?

These “ current “ columns all have same problem. Facts are never available to demonstrate the wild comments made. Typical of Fox News ( STILL, ! ! after all these penalties and firings and years of junk news ). MSNBC goes to great lengths to provide facts, facts, documentation, eye witnesses. Can this site match that?

The hill out of this current mess will be a long, hard, uphill slog. Thanks for sharing your points of view. They indicate where work still needs to be done. And is underway, as we speak. I do recommend going beyond the visual medium (Fox or MSNBC) and keep digging into these critical public issues, preferably by reading much more widely. You are off to a good start reading differing points of view on this very medium here, which is proving every day to be a breath of fresh air in our long-standing, one-party town.
