Great article. As has been reported by others the amount of oil produced for commercial benefit to the State and local communities is significant. At the same time cancelling both oil production and refineries has increased the amount of both gas and oil leaks in the channel.

The greatest leak in decades was in fact a broken line on land not in the channel.

Racialized supposed great UC system graduates cannot seem to find the truth science has produced. The two mentioned politicians don't seem to care that importation of oil from countries that are less than friendly to us is an oxymoron.

California is the same state that says we have to have more housing as the population declines.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you very much, Mr. Zepke, for a concise damage report on what our “All Green Team” regulatory environment has done, and continues to do to strangle not only the petroleum industry, but to the extraordinarily negative multiplier impact on employment for our local and state economies. This is a Civil War our side cannot afford to lose.

We see now a concerted effort by our elected officials to end all fossil fuel production in our state. As a result, dangerous and toxic Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities are being forced onto various California communities. These BESS plants have been linked to massive, inextinguishable fires which are so dangerous that fire officials have adopted a “let it burn “ policy, as conventional fire fighting techniques are ineffective from a “thermal runaway” phenomenon. In addition, toxic clouds of carbon monoxide, hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen cyanide and other heavy metals pose a significant threat to public safety.

Fires from BESS facilities have occurred at Moss Landing in Monterrey County, which reignited months later, Otay Mesa in San Diego County and more recently in La Verne, located in LA County.

Today, Goleta officials are considering approval of a second BESS facility, located a block from an Elementary School and Retirement Home. Currently, Goleta is the only community which has BESS facility in the entire County. The proposed plant is meant to replace a Edison natural gas Peaker plant which was mothballed earlier, by an Administrative Judge at the CPUC, even though Edison planned to refurbish and retrofit the plant.

Ironically, Dawn Addis (D) Morro Bay introduced AB 303, (Battery Energy Safety and Accountability Act) which would require BESS plants to be a minimum of 3200 ft from schools, retirement homes and other sensitive areas, but was killed in committee by Green Energy interests and advocates.

Conclusion: So called “Green Energy” advocates and interests are compromising public health and safety in order to push their fossil free agenda. As a result, communities are organizing and speaking out against this potentially disastrous technology.
